TLDR: The player character being a Giant, Cow-headed, Huge Dick & Tits Monster instantly puts this game into the Extreme porn category. Given that starting point, the gameplay consists of fun and varied slave-trainer activities: Capture bitches, train them, sacrifice/sell them, upgrade stats, repeat.
Breakdown:
+ There is an impressive variety of things to do with your captives: Fuck any their holes, cuddle, smother them, do curls using the captive as a dumbell, make the captive massage your legs, the list goes on. Most of these activities have costs and benefits to yourself and the captive, they aren't just cosmetic. These activities are the biggest strength of this game.
+ There is a fairly complicated set of stats for the player character and captives, but usually there are ? buttons that give some tutorial text to explain what everything means. This immensely improves useability and smooths player learning.
+ The combat in ToM is just as complicated as it needs to be and no more. We're not here for a detailed turn-based tactics game and this does not try to be one. It is nice to see, and contrasts sharply games like Masters of Ranna and Strive: Conquest which suffer from grindy, excessively bloated combat.
- The startup exposition book flickers in an extremely unpleasant eye-straining way. At least it is skippable.
- One of the main ways the player levels up is unlocking things with Favor, but spending Favor in the Ritual Tree is incomprehensible. There are rows labeled with numbers like "2-1" and columns labeled Balanced/Lust/Rage. What does it mean to spend Favor points to upgrade "2-1" Rage, or "1-3" Lust? I have no clue.
- The organization of some of the menus is excessively convoluted: To engage in "activities" that train your captive you have to click:
Cages > Select a slave > Use > (tiny little button in the bottom) Activities > Activity Type (milk/abuse/etc) > Select from Pencil outline of Actvitity. That is a lot of menu climbing for something the player is expected to do frequently. Flattening this excessively tall menu navigation tree would greatly improve player experience. Perhaps be able to mark a few Favorite Activities for quick use.
- Sometimes the Activity book closes after selecting an Activity, sometimes the book stays open while playing the scene hidden behind it.
- The numbers associated with various player activities are not well balanced nor consistent. The PC's Hunger, Rage, and Lust grow incredibly fast with time, while the Devour/Slay/Breed each need to be done multiple times to satiate the PC. This is problematic because low Rage/Lust values are required for many types of Activities, and while you are satisfying one need the others quickly grow.
- Similarly the numerical costs and benefits of various Activities are all over the place. For example, in the Suck category the level one standing blowjob activity changes Player Lust by -4. However, in the Abuse tab, the level one laying down blowjob changes Player Rage by -10. Why does a laying down BJ decrease Rage while a standing BJ decreases Lust by less than half as much? These numbers could use review for Balance and Consistency.
Conclusion: I am not into furries, sizeplay, or vore, which are main themes in this game. Despite seriously not being the target audience, I kept playing for a few hours and enjoyed my time with ToM. I will probably try a future update. Not fapping material for my tastes, but the capture/train/upgrade loop is meaty in all the right places. If you are willing to look past the udderly (heh) bizzare concept of playing as a giant man-eating cow-headed monster, this is worth trying.
