Pros:
Characters look good
Animations are good
Lite puzzles to help it feel more RE
Cons:
It's not really voiced, just a little AI at the beginning and some moaning
It doesn't have a retry option if you die, you need to load a save
I think this game would benifit a lot from having a warning pop up saying when you'll die if you chose a certain option. Because most of the spicy content is locked behind options when you fail. So sometimes you want to fail on purpose. So I think it'd be good to give the player a heads-up. It could even be an option in the settings.
So the big deal breaker for me was the voiced tag. It's not voiced, not really, so that sucked a lot for me going in. That said, it does use AI, but only a little bit. I wish they'd double down and AI voice the whole thing and somewhat earn the voiced tag or just remove the voiced tag.
With AI tech being what it is today, the dev should use Ada and Claire samples from the games and let AI do the voices from their samples. But that's neither here nor there.
3 Stars for me, but mainly cause that misleading voiced tag.
v1.0
Review Update/Edit:
So it's been over a year and a half since I last played this game, and back then, this game was pretty early in development. It's been a long time, and the game has come a long way since then, so I decided to pick it back up again. Sadly, and for the first time in my history of writing reviews for games on F95, I have to lower the score I gave it last time. Down from 3 stars to 1. And, honestly, I wish I could go lower.
A lot of the problems I came across in my original review were things I assumed would be ironed out with time, since the game was early on in development, but after playing it again after all this time, I can see that didn't happen and there are even some new issues.
Let's start with the issues from before that still haven't been fixed or addressed.
The game is still tagged as voice-acted, but only has a grand total of 60 seconds of bad voice acting from an AI at the beginning. I assumed back then that the dev was planning to iron this out by making it sound better, or hiring a real VA, or just removing it, but none of that happened. It's still the same as back then. So much so, that I believe the dev forgot the game even has voice over at the start of the game, so they never bothered to go back and do anything with it.
It's also, like I said, maybe only 60 seconds of "voice acting." Back then, I assumed the dev would add more lines and perhaps move towards adding voice-over for the whole game, or at the very least for the h scenes, even if it was only AI. I would have been fine with that. I don't mind AI, when it's done well. That didn't happen. And I'm very disappointed.
What about character models and animations? I gave the game praise for this the first time around, because I had assumed the models and animations the game was showing us were first drafts, mach-ups, for what was to come, but I was wrong. For a game early in development, they were fine, maybe even promising, but for where the game is now, they're no good. Neither of these aspects has improved over all this time, and in some cases look rougher than before.
What about the puzzles? Back then, I thought they were a neat addition to help the game feel more like RE, but what I didn't mention back then was that I thought the puzzles were too difficult for an H game because I assumed the dev needed more time to tweak them and find the right balance. Sadly, that never happened, and they even went in reverse on this one. The puzzles are way too hard for even a RE game, let alone a h game. It's just not fun and not what I wanna do when playing an h game. It's not fun spending 20 minutes looking for a password by randomly trying to find what's even clickable in the environment and what's not, only to have to give up and then look for another 10 minutes online for the code in a sea of comments and codes for all the other password puzzles in the game, then to find it and unlock the "whatever it may be" only to find it does nothing and isn't important. It's not just "not fun," it makes me angry and frustrated. Two things I don't wanna be and shouldn't be while playing an h game. And I now believe they are only in the game to slow things down to a crawl and artificially inflate the play time, because without these puzzles, the game would be over in record time.
What about a retry option? Still no, after all this time. What I thought was a no-brainer and wouldn't even be an issue after the game had some time in development is still a problem to this day, which is shocking to me in a game where the main reward for playing comes from failing. The defeat/failure scenes are the game's bread and butter, and it still doesn't have any QoL feature surrounding it. It does have the built-in Ren'Py auto save feature, but that isn't anything the dev did, nor is that enough for a game like this. This is crazy to me.
What about some of the new issues that have been added since then? It's added a lot more content, but it's mostly lazy and uninspired one-scene h scenes with little to no dialog and over in a flash. This is something I noticed before when I first played the game, but I just assumed it was because the dev needs more time to add touch-ups. But man alive, was I wrong. Before, the game only had one or two h scenes to go by. They were lazy, but I thought it was because it was all the dev could do at the time, and these were the only scenes they could make, Now, and after having more time, the game only added more of these lazy h scenes. They aren't better in any way; there's just more of them now. The very definition of quantity over quality.
And another thing that I believe was added since the last time I played is paywalled content. This is something I
hate to see in any h game, let alone one that I don't believe even deserves your money to begin with. All the top games here on f95 have already proven there's no benefit to pay-walling content. Nor do you need to do it to be successful. All content should be in the game for everyone, and it only hurts the game to do so, and that's coming from someone who likes supporting games. People who want to support, who like your game, are going to support either way, regardless. But locking off content from non-supporters is just going to further encourage them to not support the game. It's a lose-lose scenario for everyone and a bad and greedy practice for any h game dev and an instant red flag.
So with all that out of the way, here's my updated pros and cons.
Pros:
-RE parody
Cons
-no voice acting even though it's tagged as "voiced"
-bad animations
-terrible H scenes
-bad-looking models
-pay-walled content
-annoying puzzles
-no retry feature
-no QoL features at all
All and all, you want my recommendation?
DON'T PLAY THIS GAME!
Go play
Bioasshard Arena [VersusX] instead. It's not perfect, but it's better than this if you need an RE fix.
