Sorry but not familiar with Linux, so i will just ask some generic question to gather data for anyone who is more versed.
Where did you download the game and the translation patch? Was it pre patched?
What Linux are you using and what process you use to play, Listrus, Proton from Steam, just winging it ? (going by your question i assume so, if that is indeed the case, have you tried adding it to Steam to see if Proton helps? If you already are doing so, disconsider this)

This is a generic response i got from Gemini considering you are using Proton
The "exe/dll malformed error" in Proton or Wine usually indicates corrupted game files, missing runtime libraries (like C++ or DirectX components), or filesystem compatibility issues.

Here are the most effective solutions:

1. Verify Game File Integrity (Most Common Fix)
Corrupted game files are a frequent cause of this error. Steam has a built-in tool to check and repair them:
  1. Right-click the game in your Steam Library and select Properties.
  2. Go to the Installed Files tab.
  3. Click Verify integrity of game files...
  4. Wait for the process to complete. Steam will re-download any corrupted or missing files.

2. Install Necessary Windows Runtimes
Many games require specific Visual C++ Redistributables or DirectX components to run. Proton doesn't always install these automatically.
  • Use Protontricks:This tool allows you to manage the Wine prefixes for your games and install required components.
    1. Install protontricks via your Linux distribution's package manager or Discover store (on Steam Deck).
    2. Launch Protontricks and select the problematic game.
    3. Choose to install a Windows DLL or component.
    4. Install common runtimes such as vcrun2022 (or other relevant versions like vcrun2019, vcrun2017, etc.), and necessary DirectX files (e.g., d3dx11_43, d3dcompiler_47).
    5. Click through any installation prompts and close Protontricks.
    6. Attempt to launch the game again.

3. Check Filesystem Format
If your game library is on a separate drive, the filesystem format can cause issues with how Proton handles files.
  • NTFS or exFAT filesystems can be problematic due to how they handle file permissions and symlinks in Linux.
  • The recommended filesystem for Steam games on Linux is ext4. Consider reformatting the drive to ext4 if possible, after backing up your data.

4. Try Different Proton Versions
Sometimes, a specific version of Proton may have an issue with the game's executable.
  1. Right-click the game in Steam and select Properties.
  2. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
  4. Select a different version from the dropdown menu (e.g., a different Proton GE version or an older official Proton release).
  5. Try launching the game.

5. Clear Download Cache and Restart Steam
A corrupted download cache can also lead to file issues.
  1. In Steam, go to Settings > Downloads.
  2. Click the Clear Download Cache button.
  3. Restart Steam and try launching the game again.

6. Delete the Game's Compatdata Folder
This folder contains the game's unique Wine prefix and configuration files. Deleting it forces Proton to create a fresh one, effectively a clean reinstallation of the game's compatibility environment (note: this will delete your save data if it's not cloud-saved).
  1. Navigate to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/ (or your custom Steam library folder).
  2. Find the folder corresponding to the game's AppID (you can find this in the game's Steam store URL).
  3. Delete the folder.
  4. Launch the game in Steam, which will create a new, clean prefix.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the "exe/dll malformed error" in most cases.
