Ren'Py - The Good Family [v0.042] [Pipers Nest]

IDK, I want to like this AVN and I do, but I just feel like it is Average+. The renders are good and the MC is hot, and while the story starts off pretty good, it quickly starts to show it's true colors.

Admittedly, part of the problem is playing a FMC. I can only play them when they are single and even then, it is still tough to "flirt" with a maie LI. If she was just dating, I could deal with it, but she is married and has a daughter who still lives with her so mentally it is tough to go there. I have a similar problem with a male MC. I am not a fan of them having a built in GF or wife but it is a little easier. Regardless, while the dev talks about it being a slow burn, it is slow only in the sense of seeing any adult content. The FMC is pretty quick, after one mediocre performance by her husband, to flirt with and tease all the males who show up.

To make it worse, all the males, with the exception of Luca, are arrogant a-holes. Luca, even worse, seems like a sub but that remains to be seen. There was a line early in the AVN where Luca thought "it's the first time I am seeing a beautiful human" or something like that. So not sure if there is more going on with Luca with the whole "human" comment.

IDK, I think there is a solid story here wanting to come out but I something needs to change with the MC. I want more internal debate. More struggling with the concept of infidelity.

We will have to wait and see. The dev is talented so I am interested in seeing where the the AVN goes. Good luck!

This game is amazing. The fmc is drop dead gorgeous. Good story telling with either faithfull or corruption route. I like the mafia story line. Animations and renders are top tier for sure. Still in early stages but has potential!

It may be a slow burn, but the story is interesting and flows well. Excellent choice of characters personalities for the MC and Luca.

Would really like to see a story like this, where Luca would go all the way with the MC, and the story continuing while they keep their relationship hidden and try to sneak in a lot of steamy scenes together. 5/5

I like the soldier boy character. He's funny and a little different of canon main male character templates.
I accepted it with porn logic. Same for the club scene. Same for the stormy night scene. Same for the truth or dare scene... accepted all these even if they don't make too much sense.
But at least, it's straightforward. It leads quickly to lewd situations while avoiding the turboslut mode for MFC.
And we still can expect this game not to be too long. Hopefully finished!

DISCLAIMER: the game is advertised as a "slow burn"... It's not that slow. But if TGF is the first game for this dev / team... My opinion is "it's very risky to aim for a slow burn as a first game" - for the slow burn will lock you in a quite long development cycle. A first game should NOT be planned with a long cycle. Keep that for your second game, as you will have learn A LOT from the mistakes of your first one.

That's why... I'm not fond with the mafiosi plot. Mafiosi in lewd games always lead to the same blackmail / corruption pattern. And building a story with mafiosi takes time... sadly almost always a waste of time when it's not the core of the story. And the dev may quickly lose interest with these.
Also, Elena's household atmosphere doesn't fit with the mafia / high society universe.

Obviously, I agree with the most popular criticism: the neighbour maid who shares every night a spare room with a guest while living within a jogging circuit reach is a really, really bad writing choice. Such nonsense could have been avoided easily.



Renders are mostly cool.
MFC + Daughter are beautiful and sexy. There's a lot of work there. Look at the face of this milf. Gorgeous. +++
Seems it's a first game, such a gorgeous MFC is indeed a success.

Yet, the rest of the female cast is not that appealing.

I wish the dev will focus on Elena, Sofia and Luca, and not spend too much time with the rest (unless he has already planned something very cool). I really doubt he can keep the flame burning outside these three characters. The rest of the plot (town, power games, club, neighbors) is way less interesting.
It's only V0.3, but We can already tell which characters make the success of this game, and which characters / plots could lead it to a dead end.

Love the character models, and the initiative from the fmc. Graphics and cgs are great. H scenes are hot. The cast is unique with a range of characters. An interesting premise which somewhat delves into the politics of a neighbourhood or city. Hope the best for the developer and this game!

+ military Luca & Elena content, "clueless" Luca turn into solider mode when it's necessary and protect his girls. I really like that about him

- unlikeable, cowards, soyboy male characters who are afraid to make a move and seduce Elena like a normal man would do. She only do something with Luca, but he is completely clueless with sex stuff
- unavoidable lesbo content ugh.. even if you try to "avoid it" characters still acting like it happened
- straight scene during truth & dare are locked behind lesbian. Unacceptable, nice "choices"
- lewds? Not much, only one with Luca
- game supposed to have choices but in the end they don't matter

If you are only interested in good straight action not much happened yet. Hope it will change soon and we also get more no-vanilla stuff like MMF/DP/gangbangs or swinging with other couples, for now best thing in this game is Luca/Elena relationship and that's all. Generally avn with pseudo choices and totally useless male characters. Game deserve 2 stars in the current state, but let's give it a chance - maybe something change for the better.. 3 for now

Personally I especially enjoyed the lesbian scene between Elena (MC) and Dana (although I found the Greg aspect a bit weird). For those not into that, it's completely avoidable too.

Really fricking promising so far. Choices do matter somewhat, and you gotta pick the right things to get the spiciest scenes.

The scenes are very hot, and so are the models. I'm excited to see what happens next.

1. Fairly good looking characters, nothing over the top or bimbo.
2. General renders are fine.
3. Story is compelling enough, but also a bit of bullshit with the soldier kid just showing up.
4. Writing is decent, structured and reads well.
5. Characters seem a bit more interesting and have some personality.

1. Some dialogue is just cheesy and bullshit, a lot of it is filled with innuendo and obvious scenarios where you can guess what happens next easily.
2. Per above, some porn logic in this that the sexual tension and such are obvious and feel almost a bit forced, not natural and no, going slow does not mean its natural.
3. Sounds are few and far between, only music and thats in the menu, I can't recall many other sounds and they simply too few to really be even noteworthy. More ambient, interactive and lewd sounds would be nice.
4. Short, pacing is slow, very little good or interesting sexual content and then updates are tiny so progress feels very slow.
5. What lewd scenes there are, are boring, much of it is vanilla and does not provide any excitement. This is neither promoted through dialogue, which while not bad, does not stir emotion, kink or sexiness during such scenes.

OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS & FINAL REMARKS:

NOTE: The following remarks are my personal opinions and thoughts, which may provide more context and could be useful to the developer. (Read them or don't)

• Regarding vanilla sexual content, I mean anything can really make for a kinky scene, walking in on one of the LIs peeing in the shower, having a naughty thought seeing it. Sunbathing topless, tripping and causing a serious wardrobe malfunction ripping clothes and causing something to show. Walking in on a character doing something naughty, having a swimsuit revealing LI through wet material, little bit of exhibition there, or spying on LI going at someone else, little voyer. So many options, but here its dry humping and making out...Not buying Luca is that innocent...
• I am actually being very generous with story, character points and evening writing, but they and the models are key areas that are good, the rest are average at best.

TLDR:
Decent enough game, but lacks in quality and polished, has little content that is actually consistently interesting or compelling. Lewd content is few and far between and story while intriguing enough (kinda) is simply too predicable and boring. Progression is really slow and content is not overly sexy or kinky and pretty tame really.

Im not often rating game's but to be honest this game is promising with the developpment of characters Boyfriend of the daughter, the purity of Luca i hope this game continu to evolve like that and im impatient to see how the story evolve.

Really really well done! Found this on reddit and it just blew my mind away! The Dev has some talent and I see a lot of potential in this. My favourite aspect is the pacing and slow burn making me feel excited about the LI. I would like to have a trans LI too but other than that I don't see any issues and would love to dive deeper into the world of "The Good Family"!
