You play as Akira, who is residing in a remote mansion with his girlfriend Yuki for their vacation. They meet several people there. Sayuri is the mansion’s alluring hostess. Momiji is the refined eldest daughter. Mizuki is the quiet maid. Akane is a mysterious guest.

A flood traps everyone in the mansion. Seduction grows stronger. Danger lurks in the shadows. You must make tough choices. Pay a heavy price to escape safely. Or to be devoured by the erotic madness in the mansion.

Hello everyone. I’m working on my first visual novel and would like to let everyone know about it!

In The Mansion of Whispering Desires, players will dive into a captivating blend of lust and danger. My goal is to create a game that keeps players excited while feeling the tension of lurking danger. It has a bit of mystery, a touch of horror, and a swirl of lust, all tied to a tragic story!

I’m a big fan of games like Kiriya Hakushakuke no Roku Shimai (霧谷伯爵家の六姉妹,The Six Sisters of the House of Kiriya) and Hyakki Ryōran no Yakata (百奇繚乱の館, The House of Dazzling Wonders). They have just the right amount of horror and mystery to season up the erotic elements, and can be played casually without any burdens. However, these games usually have a tall language barrier and are hard to gain access to, so I want to create one with a similar style.

I have been working on the game for a while and heading towards the end of the development. The game should be ready to launch in a few months, and a demo will be available soon. Players can complete the first playthrough in 3–5 hours for a relaxing night, and if they want to explore further, they can spend another evening on the game to explore other story branches and hidden secrets. That’s the idea for the game’s scope and experience.

Looks incredible, and the backgrounds are really capturing the "rundown Showa-era ryokan" style.

Couple of spelling errors that stood out to me in the images:
Sayuri namecard"hostress" -> "hostess"
Yuki namecard "perfectionalist" -> "perfectionist"

Great visuals and the backgrounds look stunning. Sorta like a mix between gothic horror/traditional Japanese styled VN

The lighting in some of the scenes looks great. Really helps bring out the characters very well.

Kinda uncanny valley style mixed with eroticism. Some great stuff :love:

Looking forward to seeing more of your AVN's development :devilish:

Current plan is to have a v0.5 version to be released for free here, which would have 50% of the story and the h scenes. Before that there would probably be multiple v0.x versions being released here as well.

But I need to figure out a flexible way to compile different versions and make changes afterward first

Consider using more vibrancy for the headline images on steam - everything on there is so oversaturated because of tragedy-of-the-commons marketing reasons, a dull/dark image will not stand out. you can use the real screenshots in the body of the entry.

Thanks for the advice. The composition of that picture is a bit chaotic and the colors are definitely dull and lacking contrast. I think I messed up the color profile in that upload as well so the colors appear washed out. Still testing and adjusting things to get a better picture.

Tech Talk

I want to talk a little bit about the structure of the game.

Within a time period, which could be X days, and each day can be divided into an arbitrary amount of time slots.

The starting days and time can be set arbitrarily, for example, the main game loop can start on day 2 in the evening. That allows me to write whatever exposition scene I want, and the system can support that.

Then, an arbitrary amount of arbitrary events with custom priority can be inserted before each time slot, during each time slot and after each time slot, with whatever conditions I want. That way I have the flexibility to test and make changes easily while developing my game without worrying about code refactoring. The downside is that it's a bit difficult to visualize the dependencies of different events (although I think it's possible to write a custom visualizer to graph everything out).

I also made a custom Event() class and a custom system to track the triggering condition of all the events so that I can easily use the triggering conditions of some events as the flag of other events (standard stuff I guess).

It's frustrating to know that using renpy.call() function would pass the control to the end of the event, meaning I cannot just loop through all the events in a simple python loop. Instead, I need to stack all the event names together in an array first, and then call them one by one. Spent a little bit of time to figure out how to do that.

Also, I was using lamda functions to set the triggering conditions of my events initially, until I found that using lamda functions is prohibited in renpy as it would ruin the saving process. Eventually, I just separated all the triggering conditions as individual functions.

I'd love to share the source code of my system but currently they are messy. They should be available as long as I publish my game tho. I don't plan to spend effort to encrypt it.
