TheIntersticerLogoBannerF95.jpg Hey there! I’m Ratatus, currently developing the adult choice-based visual novel “The Intersticer”! As a passionate storyteller and dedicated connoisseur of lewdness, this will be my chance to carve a legacy in this evolving genre! If this interests you, please consider supporting my journey!
___________________________________________________________
-Plot-
You are an intersticer: a bridge between two dimensions, a traveler between realities. Every choice you make echoes across both worlds, reshaping the fabric of what is and what could be. Will you uncover the truth coiled between and become its salvation… Or watch as both worlds drown in flames?

Inheriting a mansion from your father in the small suburban town of Oakglen was supposed to be a fresh start. A chance to rebuild your life with your step-sister. But buried within its walls lies a secret, a legacy your father kept hidden. Now, each time you sleep, you wake in a world not of your own, a realm of fantasy, control, and corruption.
Welcome to Ahnura, a supreme Kingdom that stands unmatched in power and influence, forged by the indomitable will of a Queen whose name echoes through the lands, both in respect, and in dread. And you, an intersticer, prophesied to possess the ability to traverse between worlds, now stand at the crossroads of realities.
By day, you uncover the hidden truths lurking beneath Oakglen’s peaceful façade. By night, you navigate through Ahnura’s deeply rooted corruption. But as secrets fester and alliances twist, one truth becomes undeniable: these realms are far more connected than you ever imagined…

[Book of Thearchy]

[…]
[Chapter 47: Intersticer]
[47:1] By their waking breath, the world is as it was ordained.
[47:2] By their slumbering sigh, the dream awakes within a real fantasy.
[…]
[47:9] The veil shall be torn, and the torn shall bear witness.
[47:10] For when the pale flame of white drowns the relentless abyss.
[47:11] The shackled shall break free, neither bound to earth nor sky.
[…]

[47:14] Only then shall The Intersticer bring forth a new genesis.

-Gameplay Features-
  • A Choice-Based Visual Novel where each choice will ripple through the narrative, altering relationships, rewriting pivotal scenes, and determines the eventual ending.
  • Six Captivating Love Interests, each with a distinct in-depth personality and backstory, offering unique perspectives and depth to the story.
  • A ‘Sunday Freeday’ segment that acts like a hub of mini optional side quests and slices of lifes to further build your relationships and unlock possibilities of future scenes.
  • Build your very own unique ‘Ego Alignment’ to further customize your personality through your choices which will further lock/unlock future choices and scenes.
    • Split into two different scales, the ‘ID Alignment’ or Instincts, which will tip between Cautious and Reckless, and the ‘Superego Alignment’ or Morality, which will tip between Empathetic and Merciless. Your choices will impact how your scale tips, and thus the possibilities of the future.
  • Thousands of Variables and Conditions that alter entire scenes and hundreds of text, so that each playthrough feels fresh and new!
  • Steamy hot sex scenes that will keep you coming back for more… ;)

-Progress-
Story: 100%
  • The full story roadmap for Chapter 1 is complete! Every major plot point and branching path has been planned out.
Character Design: 50%
  • Half of the main cast is fully designed, with distinct personality and visual identities! The others only need some minor visual tweaks before reaching the same level of polish.
Writing: ~15%
  • There are currently ~43 scenes outlined (subject to change), each progressing through five stages: no draft, rough draft, first draft, second draft, and edited. While I am in the early drafting phase, a good portion of the dialogue structure is already in place/
Rendering: 0%
  • Rendering for the game will begin once the writing reaches approximately 75% completion. However, in the meantime, I am actively practicing rendering with special/promotional renders to further develop my skills!
Coding: 0%
  • I am a computer science major, so the coding aspect will probably take the least amount of time, no worries here!

-Thank you-

Hey there! I’m Ratatus, currently developing the adult choice-based visual novel “The Intersticer”!

I’m a university student with a strong passion for creating story-driven games. While all my games are completely free to play, any and all support, whether big or small, is truly appreciated. (Progress might be slower than I prefer since I’m juggling school and part-time jobs… Just another broke uni student trying to do their best.)

If you enjoy my work, please consider supporting my journey! Thank you!

A lot of writing and brainstorming has been done! Everything going really smoothly... The progress is definitely going faster than I initially thought. The only problem being the inevitable imposter syndrome slowly creeping behind...

You're an Imposter?! No, that can't be right, I'm the imposter here! :poop:

Jokes aside: it is incredibly common feel nervous and afraid about showing off your creation when starting a creative activity, especially if you have been a "high achiever" in your younger days and often received praise for producing excellent results in other areas.

Either you're going to feel reluctant to show anything without "a little more polish", OR you don't care about quality and how others perceive you (or maybe you are some sort of psycho... haha)

But the secret truth is this: just like everything else making creative work (like adult game) is a learned skill, and you only improve by practicing and getting feedback. And you get zero objective feedback unless you show other people.

Even if a specific developer is good at one of the many aspects of making a game (i.e. already a good coder, or already an experienced writer, or already a skilled artist) virtually no-one will be good at all the other parts when they are getting started.

This is why so many games appear that seem to have split personality: good images but terrible story, or a good story but buggy implementation, or quality code but the gameplay sucks. The developers don't yet have all the skills to make a *complete* game.

It doesn't mean you should not try, it means you must take a risk and put your efforts out to at least some people (maybe a closed alpha to start with) for feedback. It also means you should accept that your very first game attempt is going to be some brilliant creation: in 99% of cases it will be mediocre. But you will learn a lot, and hopefully you will enjoy the process, because there is no fucking way you are gonna make a lot of money as a first time dev (not anymore anyway, the market is quite saturated now compared to 6 years ago).

The best you can do now is keep working, find a way to make progress steadily day-by-day rather than in a few big intense pushes, and expect to have to put 1000s of hours into you project with almost no financial reward. Oh, and you probably need to keep this all a secret from 90+% of your friends and family. :ROFLMAO: This is the life of indie adult game dev.

I wish you good luck!

Thank you so much for the detailed and thoughtful response! I'll definitely keep these in mind... I definitely also really enjoy the process as it is a huge passion project of mine, and obtaining financial reward from this is really just secondary. Putting out a good story and a likable cast of characters are my number one priority! (I shoulda started 6 years earlier dang D:< jk)

But really, thank you for the response, and this rat is heading back to working and attempt to improve~
