[Review of v0.41a]
The H-game genre faces the unique problem that not all games translate well into porn. Visual novels work; text RPGs work, but it's difficult to play mainstays like first-person shooters and platformers while jerking off at the same time. Magus Lab, at its very least, makes a solid case that clicker games (think Cookie Clicker) fall into the former category of "makes for good porn."
That is, if you can keep up. Magus Lab's otherwise strong core gameplay is hamstrung by just how fast it is. The player needs to manage cooldowns, feed slaves, harvest ingredients and satisfy both potion buyers by day and brothel patrons by night.
This dilemma is frustrating because, aside from some wooden animation here and there and the game's unfinished state, the pacing is Magus Lab's only real flaw, and it's one that seems easy to solve on paper. Why not add an FTL-style pause button? Why not allow tasks to be automated by slaves, similar to every other clicker?
I wonder where Magus Lab would have gone had it not been abandoned. It's honestly surprising that there don't seem to be more games of its ilk out there, especially given that it had so much potential to be improved upon.
