Ren'Py - The Primordial [v0.04b] [FunkyD]

I don't usually leave reviews but I feel like I have to for this game, it's just that great. In short this game is nothing but incredible but that's not to say it has no flaws, I'll get to that later.

Firstly, this game is incredibly well written, something that is rare in most porn games. Probably the first that I've actually sat down and read through without pressing CTRL to skip through what I call 'filler' dialogue. Extremely engaging well done dev.

As for the graphics, It's well done however there are some areas where it can get a bit jarring especially when you move from a cutscene to a still scene or vice versa though I get that it's because of the compression and the noticeable difference in quality so it's most likely just a minor nitpick of mine. Still, impressive job especially since it's the dev's first time with KK. Also good work on the font choices. (I know that it isn't something that most people comment on but I've recently come off a set of games with terrible fonts and seeing this made me extremely thankful)

The sound design is great, you can tell that there's attention to detail put into the game in terms of sound. The BGM isn't distracting, stops when it needs to and alerts the player well of what is going to happen.

Finally, the last thing I'll comment on is the H scenes, while they are great don't get me wrong, in fact the camera angles and animation were sublime, there just isn't much to look at since it's only currently one girl (as of 0.04b) but I trust that there will be more scenes given more time so it's not a star off.

All in all, extremely well crafted game that hits all the checkboxes and has great potential and given time I'm sure it will be more polished than it is now, will be following this with great interest.

Very good game. It is a classic, fantasy setting with an overpowered character isekai, but the twist is that he Isekais into a modern world instead of the other way around.

Pros:

-The characters are likeable even the MC, which you have a decent amount of control and can choose how he acts, and the girls are likeable too.

-The world feels well thought out and evne though a lot is still unexplained as of now, it all seems to more or less make sense.

-The writing is great, and in my opinion the comedy is on point, though I can understand comedy is very subjective and it might be hit or miss to some, but above all this game has charm.

-It has a lot of effort put into it visually, it has a lot of cutscenes for dates and other things many devs wouldn't bother making cutscenes for, which makes the game feel quite alive even in the slowest parts.

Cons:

-There is a very low amount of sex scenes for a game that has been out for over a year now and mostly with one girl, while it is not the end of the world since the story outside of the sex is entertaining, I still think it needs to step up in this regard since it is meant to be a harem porn game after all.

-Cutscenes can be a bit clunky sometimes, either causing me to skip them unintentionally or end up failing to skip them.

-MC looks a bit too much like the MC from Persona 5.

Overall the only con that really detracts anything significant from the game is the first one, but that (hopefully) should be resolved as the game progresses so I'm not gonna deduce any points for it. This is definitely a 5/5.

This game is absolutely excellent.

Playing it made me really happy, every minute I spent with Jax made me happier.

The dialogue writing is really good, the characters feel like unique indiviuals, and Jax especially feels like a quirky ray of sunshine and a real person, not one of the basic anime steroetypes im used to.

People in the reviews were raving about the use of the KOI graphics and I didn't quite get it at first. It's pretty, but just comparing the screenshots to other KOI games that use KOI really well it didn't instantly impress me to the degree the reviews rave about it.

However, after being a decent while into chapter 2 I was really understanding what the reviews were talking about. The way expressions in KOI is done in this game is extremly satisfying. The use of frequent expression changes truly bring characters like Jax alive, combined with her excellent dialogue in a way i've rarely seen.

Getting to the first H scene with Jax in chapter 2, with frequent expression changes, hot, humorous and quirky dialogue all at once, combined with the use of timely sfx truly cemented this game as an excellent game and experience to me.

KOI is rarely hot to me anymore, but if you can make me like the characters that much even during the H scenes I couldn't be more impressed.

I hope it keeps going with the excellent writing it has started with, and use even more sfx during H scenes, especially moans. But this game is truly excellent, my only hope is for it to one day be complete with the same quality it has started.

Also all the mdom options are really hot, the writing is great with that. Hope it continues.

It's hard for me to really enjoy Koi-based games, but this is genuinely incredibly well done. The animations especially are extremely good and give a lot of attention to detail. The cutscenes are also great. The main girls are all pretty good looking and well written and Jax, despite looking like a rebel, is such a ray of sunshine.

The choices up until chapter 0.3 have little consequence outside of dialogue changes so far and you will have sex with Jax the same number of times regardless of what you choose. I usually prefer more player agency in these kinds of scenarios, but when the girls are as likeable as they are in here, I don't see this as a problem, so just know that it's there.

One thing that I dislike though is the first lewd scene right after the supposed death. It feels like an unnecessary "dream" scene and that it's there just to establish that this is adult media early on. It's really nothing that is worthy of deducting the score for, but just something that I felt like mentioning.

This game is seriously the cutest AVN game I've played in a long time! The dev really knows how to use cutscenes, and it makes the whole thing feel so much more alive and engaging. It's not just pretty faces, either - the cutscenes actually add to the story and make you feel more connected to the characters.

I love how the MC genuinely feels like a character that is lost in a new world. Every scene feels unique and well-made. I just love how the Dev found time to add those small changes that just makes this game more than common, especially in contrast to most other KK games.. It's clear they put a lot of love and care into making this game special.

Just please play it, it's genuinely good and deserves the whole 5*

this is one of the few times where the dev managed to make a koikatsu game feel alive. most koikatsu games just stick with the default animations, but i really love the different facial expressions bring life to jax and make her very adorable.

I really like this one, finally a good koikatsu VN that's not a sandbox. The story is interesting so far and I enjoy the characters, writing and the humour. It is also pretty to look at with some high quality renders. I can definitely see the potential and I hope it's gonna be more popular in the future.

Damn, I really like the story so far. It has great characters, so I am going to play it till the end. The character designs are good. like the scenes so far. It's great that all of the characters have different emotions. Every character has a unique story to tell. Humor and story is very good in it.

I've played enough koi renpy games on here that I've kinda become numb to them, but got daym this dev did good! Seriously I really like how the good/evil branches are handled with it being more niceguy/asshole. It's kind of annoying in most games where it's either white knight or baby eater.

I'm reviewing 0.02b. While it's definitely clear that this is a game in the early stages, it has the bones of something great. Jax especially is an amazing character, though all that have been introduced have been interesting. Renders are good, story is intriguing, a lot to recommend this so far, here's hoping to a good future for it!

Updated Review for v0.03

The last few updates have mostly cleared up any doubts I had and really solidified how I feel about the game. This is great. If you're looking to get more than just sex of of your lewd games, this is an easy recommendation so far.

I always like when an AVN tries to do something a bit different, and in this case it's working for me. You play as an ancient primordial being who's essentially been betrayed by humanity, which he was sworn to protect. Death is evidently not the end, as you then find yourself awoken in a modern day setting.

Everything is just solid. Characters are full of life, the MC is enjoyable to play as, the plot is actually pretty interesting, the dialogue is competent, its got music and sound effects, etc etc. All the usual works of a good visual novel. That's a bit of a rarity honestly, so it's a nice treat to find something so nicely blended with all those elements I usually look for.

One thing that stood out to me was the use of proper cutscenes. I think it's done great here, and isn't something I see a lot of lewd games use often surprisingly enough. I think it can be a bit weird with visual novels since as a player I usually want to control the pace, but I didn't find them intrusive or a slog to get through. They really did add to my enjoyment. Props for that.

Now that there's actually some proper lewd scenes I can really talk about them. Ignoring that first dream scene since I think it's a poor representation of the sex scenes, the rest of them are actually much better than your usual Koikatsu. On top of actually having endearing dirty talk with properly written characters, the animations and extra details are pretty nice. There's options for maledom, but I veered away from that in favor of the more vanilla approach since that's just my thing.

You could make a case that the game moved a bit too fast with sex scenes involving the first girl, considering you get three hand/blowjobs back to back to back and then full sex within the span of a day. I will say though, while that sounds fuckfesty, there's a real attempt making it feel more natural that truly does work. Probably due to the fact the characters are just competently written in general.

My criticisms are pretty small. I dislike fourth wall breaking moments, and I really dislike choices where one just leads to a quick game over. More personally preference really, and the game isn't full of those things, but my point stands that they break my immersion more than anything. The more objective criticism is that the sex scenes could use some more sound effects. The kiss noises are hot, but then there's nothing for stuff like *PLAP PLAP PLAP* so to speak.

A game I'm now invested in. Looking forward to its continued development.

What a neat little introduction. Very enjoyable story. I really enjoyed all the little nuances in the subtle animations that were not full on cut scenes. Definitely looking forward to future updates. Thanks for sharing.

Test on V0.1a

This early version gets off to a pretty good start, the story seems interesting even though we have almost no information.

As far as the characters are concerned, it still seems too early, but graphically they look good.

The only criticism I'd make is about the choices, the "asshole" route seems pointless unless you're a big asshole, but everyone's different.

That cliffhanger at the end annoys me a bit because I hate that, but I can't wait to find out what happens next and hope we get a real story and not just porn
