The Renaissance – Version 0.5
The Renaissance is a VN focused on femdom. The story is exciting, the storytelling excellent, and the visuals modern (With Raytracing) and polished. You’ll encounter a wide range of distinctive female characters, each beautiful in her own right, as well as a chauvinistic male protagonist (the player), who is soon straightened out by the women. The story essentially follows two main paths: one with the male MC and another with a developing female heroine (Dominatrix). This dual structure adds extra spice and complexity to the narrative.
What I especially value is the serious and uncompromising approach to domination. Visual novels exist to let us ignore real-world rules and boundaries and dive into fantasy. Trying to force real-life BDSM rules (like softening everything into cuddling) doesn’t work for me. Unfortunately, this happens often in other VNs or games of this type here on this site. The Renaissance succeeds in creating the illusion of authenticity while at the same time offering subtle reminders (at least in one story path) that reality is different and should be different.
Highlights:
+++++ Story
+++++ Storytelling
+++++ Visuals (images)
+++++ Presentation of the BDSM/Femdom theme
++++ Amount of content
+++ Language and wording (quite good for me as a non-native speaker. A few typos and missing letters; some very odd sentences, probably from machine translation without context)
++ Some choices (as far as I know, three) have a minor impact on the story, plus a few “game over” decisions you can pick
++ Sound/Music
– Minor bugs (occasional incorrect text)
– Animations (too short, and despite POV options, they’re uninteresting; sex scenes/movements feel unnatural)
–– Most choices only affect the immediate text and don’t really influence the overall story
–– Lack of variety in female body types (no ugly/fat characters)
If femdom isn’t your thing, you won’t enjoy this VN. But if it is, I can guarantee it’ll be worth your time. In my opinion, this is a solid 5-star rating. I’m very much looking forward to the continuation.
