This is on version 0.5.25a.
I've put off trying "The Repurposing Center" for...a long time. The premise just wasn't that interesting to me, and the small amount of content shown in the preview images reinforced that. But I've grown very desperate in my search for games featuring mind control so here I am.
So starting with the big positive, TRC gives you quite a bit of control over what you're seeing. Not just in its content filters, but in your ability to pretty much walk away from any event that comes up. Actual player control is pretty rare in games, so that aspect can definitely be appreciated.
Moving more on to the negatives, TRC gives you quite a bit of control over what you're seeing. While the content filters are legitimately welcome, and frankly necessary given the choice of focus, it's very weird to just be able to...ignore things that happen in a game where the premise is characters being transformed into sex slaves.
But the worst part of the game is the content. Or rather, the lack of. There is almost nothing to be found here. There are plenty of hooks, a few that I found interesting, but they don't go anywhere.
Here's an example, which will contain the most minor of spoilers:
In fact, I believe only one character has what I would really call a "complete" questline at the moment (Tilly, for what it may be worth to the author). The rest basically disappear after, at most, three events. They might still be around, you might even be able to "interact" with them, but you can't progress anything.
Which really begs the question, where has all the development time gone? This game has been around for a while, so why is there so little to find? Well confused as I was I imported the game into Twine to take a look.
It's diaper stuff.
You turn off "ADBL" in the content filters and you turn off half of the game's content. That's what I meant by "choice of focus".
Look, I'm not shaming it. It's not my thing, we're all playing porn games to get off, you do you.
But why is there so much of it and practically nothing else in a game promising such variety? Why not expand Alice more? Why not give Baylee some events? There are literally empty events for Radcliffe sitting in the game, why not take a couple hours and write those up? Characters are really the thing that can bring forth the most investment from a player, so why put so much more effort into writing diaper events than character events?
But honestly, even factoring in that category, there's a lot less than I'd expect for the duration of time the game has been worked on.
And if you're wondering, the "mind control" is about three repeated, progressing, entirely voluntary events which produce almost no impact on the game and can be easily reversed. There are a couple side events that progress the stat as well as you travel between locations, but they have no effective impact. It's just another thing that doesn't lead anywhere.
So overall there's just not much to be done in the game right now. Everything leads to a swift dead end, and you're going to need to be a big fan of a very particular kink to get anywhere with this game.
Edit: The developer has contacted me regarding this review, both providing an explanation on the game's content shortage (apparently they've been ill for quite some time), as well as asking what I personally would like to see expanded on in the game. While I maintain that the game just isn't much of anything right now, they seem to be genuinely quite nice, open to feedback, and enthusiastic about creating something.
