The Sagara Family Remastered™®© is the next in line for these game remasters that JAST has been doing over the years. Having previously read Do You Like Horny Bunnies and Amorous Professor Cherry and enjoying them somewhat I decided to give this one a shot. Supposedly out of all the ZyX titles this is one of their better titles, and I've often seen it come up in "what is a good beginner VN" lists. Is the hype worth it? Let's find out.
This time around you play the role of Yusuke, a lucky sonovabitch, who ends up living together with a hot MILF and her four daughters. You can imagine what is going to happen next. While the story generally pans out in the usual fashion, ZyX decided to be a bit more, shall we say, risque with this title, in that they introduced DUN DUN DUN are you ready for it? NETORARE. Yes, friends, this VN contains NTR, which means you CAN BE CUCKED! Of course, the cucking can be avoided if you make the correct choices, but then of course you won't be able to unlock the full gallery and your OCD might start acting up and that's not a very good thing, believe me.
With that mandatory disclaimer out of the way let's have a look at the waifus, shall we.
First of all we have the matriarch herself, Maria, a very loving and veeeery lonely woman who lost her husband years ago. Lucky for her there's a strapping young lad that just moved in with her family so her lonely nights of drinking herself to sleep might be over.
Next up we have the oldest daughter, Arisa, who works as a teacher at a kindergarten. Her problems in life are twofold: 1) she is very submissive and super horny and 2) that ugly bastard of a director is just as horny as she is except he makes no effort in hiding his lust for her. Can you guess what could happen next?
The next in line is Sanae, the sporty tsundere bitch who enjoys punching the MC face for no apparent reason. She cuould have been best girl if she wasn't so bitchy especially since I have a massive thing for red heads.
The third is Emiru. Emiru is... special. She is shy and reserved because has a very dark secret that she can't bring herself to share with others. She likes cosplay. AWESOME! Honsetly I don't really care much about cosplay IRL but for some reason I really dig it in anime. Of course she pulls out her costumes during the H scenes which makes them the hottest in the entire VN.
Last but not least we have Ruruka, the youngest daughter. She is also very horny and really wants to get it with the MC. Other than that there's not much to say about her. She could have been a good contender for best girl but I'm not a big fan of lolis and her haircut is the worst. As a very small spoiler: at the end of her route you get a CG with all her grown up and busty (sadly sporting the same shitty haircut) and in the background we get a cameo of Kazuma and Makoto, the MC and one of the girls from Do You Like Horny Bunnies 2. It's always nice to see fan service like this.
The story isn't that riveting, however there are a ton of choices that you can make and a ton of possible endings, two for each girl plus a harem ending. If you want to 100% this you should probably use a walkthrough because not all choices are that evident. Definitely a step up from previous ZyX titles IMO, although, like I said don't expect anything that goes outside the boundaries of the genre. Maria's, Arisa's, and Sanae's routes are a bit more serious because they can involve NTR, Ruruka's touches on a darker subject as well, while Emiru's is the most light hearted one.
The H-scenes are typical ZyX fare. They don't really go outside the norms of usual fetishes apart from the NTR scenes. My only complaint is that their length is very uneven, raning from 5-20 minutes or more. It's a small nitpick, I know, but I expected shorter scenes from bishoujoge of this era, like ~10 min max. In typical ZyX fashion it comes with several animated scenes as well, and the quality is higher than those from the previous titles. At any rate there are dozens upon dozens of H scenes so if you're here for that then you won't be disappointed. All beautifully uncensored, of course.
The art is the same ZyX stuff that we've come to know and love (or hate). All the girls look kind of the same, except this time it sort of makes sense since they're all related. The upscaled graphics look good in 1080p. Good job JAST. The VA, sounds, and music are ok but forgettable. The interface is alright. I was able to set the auto-read at just the right speed so I'm satisfied with the UI. My only gripe is that, unlike the previous ZyX remasters, this one does not come with a "save all CG's" button. What's up with that?
As usual with their remasters the kind folks over at JAST provided a native Linux version as well which worked flawlessly. Penguin enjoyers rejoice!
So in the end is The Sagara Family Remastered worth the hype? I mean this was certainly the best ZyX title that I've read hence the high rating. It won't change your world, but if you're looking for an old-school bishoujoge and aren't afraid of a little NTR here and there then there's no reason to not give it a try.
Final verdict: 4 stars; an excellent addition to any boomer coomer's collection. For fans of old-school bishoujoge this is a must read.
