In some scenarios, yes. But there're also lesbian paths (Carolyn, Lily), love/vanilla paths (Varga, Jaeid), paths where Sarah is powerful and sometimes dominating (warrior, mage) etc. So such statement is a bit exaggerated.
Dev has been messing with game variables in the latest update so probably not.

Bullshit, the story is moving and tragic, there are several ways in which the FMC moves the plot of the story and fights not to give in, and there are moments where she can fail and be raped, but they are avoidable and depend on the player.
The only tragic thing about the story is how braindead MC has to be in order to engage with 90% of the routes.
I see it more that the fleeing story lines seems isolated from saving the kingdom. Where the mercenary and mage route that comes from fleeing goes into the whole rift thing that doesn't exist when you stay in the kingdom.
I see thanks, yeah regardless of whether the MC gets dominated in all the routes it still seems to be targeted at men.
A female gaze game would be like, look at all the hot men that the MC is fucking, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

This is just wrong in 2 of the main routes warrior and mage you don't get dominated at all if you choose not to. In fact if you pick certain choices you make an alliance with an immortal entity making the fem MC one of the most powerful beings in the story. You also kill a demonic creature in both routes while all the men around you failed to.
These routes are long and the fem MC starts from a weak position and yes there are routes where fem MC is under control of a powerful dominant male but they are not the main routes and have way less content.
Not telling anyone not to be critical of the game I am critical of this game. I have problems with some of the devs decisions of the game but you shouldn't lie to put new players off the game because you personally hate the game.
That's just a different wording for "there's content where MC is being dominated but you can opt out of seeing it if you don't want to". It simply doesn't change the fact this kind of content is there, and it's made with the intention the player will view and enjoy it, rather than skip it.
It's quite confusing tbh, I'm a dude but I have a female friend who says she's into trying AVNs and eroges from here. If this game was for her then I would recommend it to her, otherwise I would try it myself. But I'm getting the impression that real otomes are not really what's available here, even ones that seem like they are are funded by male patreons who would ask for male-gaze elements.

There's not a lot of specifically otome games here. I'd say most of the content is targeted at men, straight, gay, or whatever the TSF/autogynephillia counts as. There are games here that men and women both play based on comments, but I'd say it's probably more divided based on fetishes. If your friend is after a bishi-gacha cast pining after the protagonist, there's a bit of a dearth. But it's not like a game being "a shoujo or a shounen"(sic) means it's "no girls allowed," following the analogous terms, you can be a woman and like Naruto. "Will my female friend like this porn?" really depends on the friend and what she's into.
At the end of the day, this is a piracy site, so it's not like you're out money and the main risk (though you can't necessarily rule out shady code) is hitting a squick.

Male player here. I can't say if it's genuinely for both genders...
But, what I can say, as others, is that there are really many paths in this game, with very different outcomes and even "different" Sarah.
In some she can become powerful (mage route), strong (warrior route), ruler of a kingdom...
In other, she can become a slave, a whore...
One of the thing that make this game really interesting, is that depending on the path you are on, you will play some situations from a very different point of view.
One example : on the warrior path, you will be a mercenary hired to conquer a city. While trying to reach the throne room you will encounter a powerful mage who is here to protect the royal family.
But if you are on the mage path, you will be that powerful mage who protect the royal family.
Inn this game, the choices you make can totally change the story. It's pretty amazing.
I will say, why not giving a try?
Your friend can get it here for free, play it a bit to see if it's her liking, and become a Patreon or buy it on itch/steam if she like it.
A warning, for some routes (mainly the mage and the warrior), there at least a bit of lesbian. So if your friend like only straight content, she will miss these paths.
I've only done one route so far (stayed behind with thomas, fought the invasion off, got into a political marriage) and my impression is that while its expected of the FMC to submit by society, its highly likely you'll have the agency to subvert and manipulate the guy in turn. Add to the fact that you basically end up being shadow govermor since Thomas defers most decisions to you. But it also seems like that route is far far shorter than the others from what im seeing here. A shame really because some Long Live the Queen like h-game would be awesome to have, i personally much prefer the political intrigue angle to becoming some sorta lesbian warrior princess exile.
I kinda agree with what some of the other posters are saying, you'd have to roleplay Sarah as very stupid to enter some of the routes, the good decisions are far too obvious and easy to make, which in turn reflects REALLY poorly on Thomas. You'd be a fool to ignore the warnings of incoming war for example, depending on your actions, the game tells you like, 4 if not 5 times that theres gonna be an army coming.
