HTML - The Taboo Family [v0.03] [SirF21]

Good:
- Stats system

Bad:
- Somewhat grindy
- No goals, sandbox in the literal sense but not really
- Limited ways of gaining lust.

Ugly:
- Basic actions take way too much energy.
- Not a ton of focus, no real story.
- No continuity in images. At least try and make the characters look somewhat the same or crop out distinguishing features (blond in one pic, brunette in the next, large breasts in one, flat as a rock in another.
- I think I came across maybe 5 lines of actual dialogue.

v. 0.03 review - it's fine, just fine.... nothing more.

I enjoy HTML games, I don't know why but I do. Some people hate them but I don't. I don't mind the grind that always comes along with them as long as it's not too bad, and I think that they usually come along with some good writing.

Unfortunately The Taboo Family falls short on the greatest strengths that the HTML format offers. First of all there isn't anything specifically 'bad' about this game necessarily, but there's really nothing that good to be honest.

The NTR is tough to avoid without cheats, and that might appeal to a certain player, but I think it should be a little easier to control. The grind in this game is pretty brutal as well. Be prepared to see the same passages over and over and over while doing the same tasks repeatedly.

The worst part about the game is that it feels like there was really a huge missed opportunity for storytelling. All of the writing in the game is very bland and uninspired. The story could lead to some fantastic writing between the family characters, and there's just none. Nothing. It's an absence that is strongly felt. For example during my play, MC was bitten by a zombie, and the choices are to tell your family which ends with them kicking you out of the house and you get a bad end. Or you hide it from them.... and that's it, nothing else, no game play mechanic, it's just that you made a choice that didn't lead to a bad end. This is a perfect example of the writing in the game.

Over all, I wouldn't say this is a 'BAD' game, but it's certainly not a good one. The very limited number of gifs, the heavy grind, the poor writing, the flat characters, and the brutal grind make me give this one 2 stars. Maybe it will improve in future updates but in it's current state; It's playable, but I wouldn't waste your time.

Really cool game, one of my favourite "new" ones on this site. The gameplay has grown with each version and every release has included a decent amount of new game play and events. It's also pretty much bug free which is a rarity for a game this early in dev.

The characters are a little 2 dimensional, it'd be nice to see it fleshed out a bit in the future past "be nice/ unpleasant" and "be a dom/ sub" choices.

There are a lot of comments and reviews that aren't entirely accurate (such as people not knowing how to progress), so I decided to make my own.

[V0.01a] - The concept is fun and I see the potential. I think some quality of life changes would do a lot of good. For example, going into the kitchen to access your inventory, and making that the only way to progress. If this were adjusted to appear on the UI Bar along with a quest tab, I'd see it as a major improvement.

Something to note is how grindy the game currently is. You have to repeat the same event(s) over and over again to progress to the next one, which is something I generally dislike, but if that's your cup of tea then this may be the perfect game for you.

Overall, it's not bad, especially for a first release, but some might feel there's a lack of content or feel the game is too grindy to access the content already there.

Why to upload a game which have nothing what definite a game? The "game" have no content. And I mean it, there is nothing here. No scenes, no interaction, no tasks, quests, events... all you can do is go on a expedition and get food and water. But you dont need it cuz you dont lose hunger or anything.

Its just not worth.

It's a great start, yes - there's almost no content yet, but I'm happy with the clear definition of what content to receive and the simplicity of the gameplay. There are a couple of bugs, but that's okay and they're not critical. I really hope that the author will not abandon the game, it is lovely

Updated review: Game has gotten some content and fixed bug issues in 0.01. I think the game is in a better state now, although it's more of a baseline of a game to build upon rather than a playable thing currently.

Story is pretty well set up, as the author has established a good mood and tone for the whole thing. It's pretty bleak, and I trust their ability to continue going forward with the same tone.

Gameplay used to be pretty lackluster, and now there's more here. Food and relationships actually do something, for example. A few problems exists.
1: Grind is too severe for the drip feed of content. This will likely be improved if more content comes out. Navigating the menus to do the grind is also a pain.
2: Tedious events and lack of guidance. A lot of events right now have no variations depending on variables (family corruption should be the big one). Lots of repitition of "do x to girl" until next level is unlocked. That can be fixed with more content. The lack of guidance comes from actually getting the routes (The ntr route, which has most of the content for this patch, is pretty specific.) Some things, like the corruption aura, are not explained and I have no idea what they do.
3: The other characters have no autonomy. While that's pretty typical for a porn game, I think for this type of game you need the other characters (mainly the males) to be doing stuff so they feel like a threat to the player. Maybe the Dad could fix the house if the player lets it get too low, lowering each other's reputation with him. As it stands, the only NTR you can get to happen is consentual, as you need to do a bunch of hurdles to enable it. We already have the "ntr mode" option.

Also the UI is still pretty ugly. I've gone up a star since the last review. I think this game's on the right path right now, and I'm eager to see what comes next.

Forces unnecessary clicking. Unnecessarily, lust can only be "gained" by watching porn on a phone. literally just a few pictures. "Games" should not be released in such a state. No mechanics of interaction with everyone except the sister and the girl. I hope that in the next version there will be something to play because now it is very weak and believe me I do not have high expectations.

The game is small right now, but I really like the idea. The NTR concept is awesome. I would wish the phone was more easily accessible instead of having to go to the kitchen to open it as you may need it for lust. Overall though great game and can't wait for more.
