Recently, I just finished playing the FPS Citadel and Beyond Citadel. Personally, I am a huge fan of retro shooters/boomer shooters so these titles naturally popped up on my radar. More than that, their interesting aesthetic grabbed my curiosity even more, with an art style that reminded me of old school anime like Neon Genesis. After having played both, Beyond Citadel is far and away the better game with a more complete narrative and fleshed out gameplay elements. If you're a fan of older shooters like Marathon, DOOM, or Duke Nukem 3D you'll find a lot to enjoy here with some twists like weapon jamming and light RPG elements to give it some modern twists. However, as much as I would love to write up a full on review of these twin titles, these games made me consider something else. How do YOU approach adult or porn content in games that aren't 100% built for porn?
For instance, in both of these titles there is nudity as well as lots of possible sexual undertones involving characters being tortured/killed. Its certainty not for the faint of heart, but it does go with the kind of extreme content that rose up in anime around the 90s. However, as someone who enjoys porn games, I did find this a little offputting. The violence played a part in that for sure, but typically I feel like I enjoy a distinction between the games that are built for lewd enjoyment vs games that aren't. Beyond Citadel would be an enagaging throwback shooter along the lines of Turbo Overkill and Dusk without these oddly sexual elements.
Oddly enough, as a sidebar, this isn't the first time I've come across this. Another, perhaps more popular, example, is HEDON: Bloodright, which has self procliamed 'Waifus' all over the fantasy enviorments. It's an odd choice for a game so clearly inspired by DOOM but then again, even DOOM has attracted this kind of attention with the likes of mods like H-DOOM. A conversion mod for the orginal classic that turns the demons into fuckable toys for the DOOM marine to enjoy rather than slay.
So just to wrap all this up, I wanted to pose the question is this something that bothers you at all? Or to go even deeper, do you mod in more sexual content into your non-porn games? Skyrim and Fallout both have quite detailed erotic mods, and Cyberpunk 2077 carries these tradations into the modern day. Or do you prefer to keep your porn and your other games seperate?
