I think the main problem isn't really with viruses per se, but what a .exe files can add to your pc without your knowledge that's not considered a virus.

I've never had an issue on this site in hundreds of downloads, and I think the games themselves are checked for malware and PUPs by the uploader (who is either the dev or a respected member of the community). I would be more careful with things like mods and save files from random users, and also avoid Anonfiles and Mixdrop hosts since they're a little dodgier than the rest (opening windows/tabs without permission).
