Tips on writing sex scenes?

I'm working on my first game and getting bogged down in writing sex scenes. The trend in many games seems to be to combine typical porn quality dirty talk with usually awkwardly written sound effects. What are some good tips for making these scenes a bit more compelling and interesting in a VN?

Hi,
as Mark Twain probably said you should Write about what you know.
(it might be a good idea to experience more things in your private sexlife - for research purposes)

To the more opened question "how to write a sex scene?" well that depends of your writing preferences:

-long narrative text describing every detail.

-short text/dialogue under explicit imagery.

Since you speak of a "VN" I would assume you'll go for the "short text/dialogue under raunchy pictures" - considering that you do not plan on winning a Nobel Prize for Literature this year - best way to do things is to make them simple.

Jessica: Oh Billy you're so big please let me experience more earthly pleasures with your divine meat cudgel
(may sound a bit quaint)
Jessica: Billy you animal Fuck me now!!! (more modern)
Jessica jumped on billy ripped his pants and rode him til he flatlined... (descriptive)

A mix of both can also work depending on the "occasion" but you must always respect:

- the flow of the story
- your personal writing taste and ability ( even a bad dialogue will always be better than a poor description)
- the fact that it's supposed to be actual human beings speaking - or that you are describing - not mindless sexdrones.

(unless you are actually writing about sexdrones ofc)

Have fun.

The frequency you change images creates a sense of speed or urgency.

If you're normally swapping to a new pictures after roughly 5 or 6 lines of dialogue, you might want to increase that to 3 or 4 and later even possibly 1 or 2 during the more peak moments. If it's "normally" 8 to 12, then 6 to 9 then 4-6 then 2 to 3. Just to create a sense of the pace of things increasing.

It's also why sex scenes are frequently animated. Because, again, you're upping the pace.

As far as animations go... no animations is better than bad animations. Animations are a nice to have... and players will always ask for them. But they're optional at best and so if you aren't comfortable with animations... don't worry if you don't have any.
