Greeting F95 fellas,

Ribes here, a developer who is currently working on a 2D animated hentai project.

Despite our teammates are experienced in art creation, but none of us are familiar with coding.

So, we are wondering if gaming mechanics is a crucial element when it comes to Hentai.

Like Subverse, do you think a pretty 2D shooter will give you more incentive to back that work?

If it is a trade-off between gaming mechanics and more sex scenes,

What would you prefer? (To be short: Hentai Game Vs Visual Novel)

All the Hentai Gentlemen, please elaborate your points.

That would be our best helping hand.

contrasting the difference like that wouldn't help answering the question,
if story (plot-pacing) is good, image will be there only to enhance the experience (as in vn style)
unless the graphics is the strong selling point from the beginning, then best to make it as usual slideshow

as to what a 'game' actually is, meh
replay value is there so people can actually discover something else that can't be on a single playthrough
or different level of difficulty, another perspective of the story, etc.
as long as the mechanic is clear and logic, even the simplest one can suffice
you can't go wrong with hentai game just only consisting of several mini-games
making it harder (or grindy) is good if the mechanic can make the player to actually 'play the game'
that mean sense of progression and learning curve is experienced
