Just keep trying, it can be a bit of a pain but once you get used to the route you should be able to do it.

The text only version is updated to 0.6.8 only, as far as I can remember. I discontinued it in favour of the picture one, which is more explanatory and cuts down on questions. I understand that to some an easily-downloaded, text-based version might be preferable but I have no interest in continuing it again. If you like, you can always download the picture version and simply delete the pictures yourself.

the left and right arrows on your keyboard. You won't see anything move on the screen while you push the left and right arrows as fast as you can, but once you've done it enough, the pillar will show cracks and the screen will shake a few times. Keep doing it for the 10 seconds. With not seeing anything happen I too wondered what the hell was going on. Took me 2 times before I just kept mashing the left and right arrows for the full 10 seconds before it did anything.
