Translation status:
There's a chinese team working on the translation, but since it's pretty long game, it will be done in chapters/stages.
We need people to help to proofread the releases, so feel free to come at the official to help with the translation.
I'll update the post with newer releases when they come.

EDIT: This post is previous to the translation from Utage's team, so it's not useful anymore for this project. You may use it on similar UE4 games that do not implement localization support, though know that is pretty klunky and requires a lot of space.

This is my first thread, so tell me if I did anything wrong. Now that's said, let me describe what is this about.
Shameimaru Aya's Silent Homeland is a... Stalker-like game? I haven't played enough any of both to say for sure, but that's the feel I get from it. Mix Touhou, some guns and Dead Space, give it RPG elements, loot, quests, a way too big map (it has fast travel to specific points), with a lot of "misappropiated" assets, 4 years of passion (iirc), and you got this.

Even without understanding anything, I played like 4 hours skipping cutscenes, done the I guess tutorial, and I can say that... if this were translated it would be somewhat good. It's true that I feel I spent way too much time running, and the limited ammo has cut me deep, but I believe understanding the story and the mechanics would make this pretty engaging. Not fun for everyone by any means, but good for anyone that likes to shÜt.

The game is free to download at their page, though the official international link (the other two require chinese phone number) has been pulled down several times by reasons unknown to me.
In their FAQ, they say it's impossible to put this game in Steam because of copyright reasons, and that there's also working on translating the game. I tried to contact this person, or better said I cannot since everything I find is china phone walled. So if anybody has access to bilibili, maybe some of the resources I list down below may help. Also, there's a prequel that I'm interested in downloading, but only found baidu link, so please get in contact if you can download it for me. (EDIT: thanks dev for providing it. Maybe in the future it also gets translated just for fun)

I have tried to machine translate the in-game text (there's also many important text in pictures, like the last 3), but after a weekend realised that I don't have any tool for this kind of work (I have tried to do RPGMaker translations in the past). Also, it's chinese, not japanese, so more complicated for me.
The main problem I see is with the names and objects from Touhou, as these tend to be mistranslated by AI. Also, there's the images that are not a few but many which I don't have any method for extracting and repaking.

Anyway, here's a methodology I used to achieve in-game text translation, at least partially since I cannot know for sure if the tools got everything. This doesn't include any image, as I don't know how to extract them. (EDIT: , come to the Discord if you wanna help out)

Find attached a .rar with the untranslated text I have been able to extract following this procedure, plus the "splitter.bat". Be careful with .bat scripts, they can be disastrous if you are not careful with them.

I forgot to say, I tried to load the game into UE4.27, but found out it has dependences with developer packages that are not accessible in the in-editor shop from my country. I guess I could try to search them, but I have no experience with UE4.27.
Here's the .uproject of the game which includes the packages names, just in case you are interested:

Also, here's a list of things anyone could help with (dev made a group, come if you wanna help. I may not update this thread until milestones have been reached):
1- Find in the untranslated text I shared in the .rar from the previous post character names, objects, locations and the such specific from Touhou Project, and make a translation glossary in the form ("东方" means "Touhou") to be used in the translation. EDIT: I have a first version of the . It's in no way complete, but I've been adding everything easy (but locations) from producing a list of files which text should be translated. Since I see way too many files, I suggest to proceed with caution and perform the translation in small steps for the in-game text, as translating something that should not be translated may break things, and the worst could be that the game keeps mistakenly working (e.g., idle animations don't work anymore).
2- Search tools for extracting and repackaging images from the game in UE4.27. EDIT: Found additional tools and have proved they worked.
3- Learn what LLMs could be the best on chinese to english translation.
4- SLR translator may be of use to translate the game, both in-game text and images. However, I believe it will require some modifications in order to addapt the special syntax from UE4. Way too complex for what is needed for this. Maybe we could use the OCR feature for the images, but any other tool may work.
5- This is something that may require point 4. Define the line length for every file, as the translated text will require adjustment to fit the lengths on each context, and maybe a rewrite in some cases since I don't expect be able to make new windows without the editor support.
6- People that know chinese and english could do some quality testing, but it's not something I contemplate we will have access to due to the length of the game.

This shi seems pretty good actually. I hope they don't delete this page for the lack of sexual content. But oh well, TCoAaL is still here, so I guess it's okay? Maybe?

Here is one of the developers, I am currently making a DC server for this game.
And this translation is in progress, not by us, but by some fans.

Okey, time for some news. Utage and their team will be translating the game, and with the original resources from FIND, we'll be getting a pretty good implementation of the translation (CGs will look like original).

Here's the catch, the game is long. It has around 800k lines to be translated by a team that are native to chinese, so we need proofreading from the english side. The translation will be done in stages/chapters, and though the delivery method is still being decided, we have a meeting group so anyone can hop in and help with proofreading.

Because of this, I'll will be updating the thread when a new release is ready, so people can help proofreading (better on the group) or just enjoy the partial translations.
