I would say if you don't know japanese then the best way to translate a game is:
Use Mtl first-- Play the game yourself -- Know where the shitty translation is and fix it, it's pretty manual and kinda time taking but with this you can gather experience and actually deliver a good translation
But in case you know japanese there is no need to do Mtl

Only 1100 lines has been corrected and translated of 27000 lines. Any way to Speed things up. [Tried hooking, sugoi translation, Translator++, Textractor I can't use none of em]
