Protecting the living space of the displaced people are giant humanoid weapons called "Exteriors" and the "Mercenaries" who drive them.
The protagonist is a former mercenary who lost his aptitude for Akasha particles due to a past accident.
Unable to ride an Exterior, he mocked himself as a "defective product" and continued to live a wandering life like a hermit.
In the midst of all this, he met a girl.
She was aiming to become an exterior engineer, but the Exterior she created by inheriting the blueprints of her late mother was mocked by those around her as an "antique" and shunned.
This was because the Exterior was too old-fashioned in that it "did not use particles."
A defective mercenary who could no longer handle particles, and an antique Exterior that did not use particles.
When the two meet, the gears of the story slowly begin to move.
