Ren'Py True DeDICKtive [development thread]

Hello everyone, after lurking and being a part of the community for years, we have decided to try our luck and make our own game. We are BaoCat, a two-people team working on a game called True DeDICKtive, a 2D Dating Sim/Visual Novel ( Bao is responsible for the coding and writing and Cat is the artist of the game).

In our game, you play as a freshly graduated detective who decided to go back to his home town, Bolsdip, in order to solve its mysteries. Along the way you will discover secrets about the town and people living in it.

Gameplay: The game will be a sandbox/free roaming game mainly inspired by those like Summertime Saga or What a Legend! We aim to make a grind free gameplay (even without mechanics of money or affection system) with the main focus on roaming and learning more about the town and its folks.

Not much to judge here except the art and the general ideea but I for one am looking forward to see what you come up with for this game

If I could leave one critique it would definitely be the name: it does not make sense, it does not roll of the tongue great and it made me skip the thread more than once because it seems kind of dumb.

Other than that good luck with the development. The art looks good so far

Thanks for your response! It's really exciting to have your first reply. I think your comment about the title of the game is really good, we will take it into considaration. To us, it was a reference to one of our favorite shows, True Detective, but it's true that the title of our game might be difficult to pronounce.

We want to share more about our game, its storyline, gameplay and art (including the more spicy pieces *wink, wink*) in future posts. But please let us know if you want to know something more specific.

Nowadays any sort of update regarding a game that is in development is a great update as far as I am concerned

. But since this is supposed to be a detective game I think something many people (myself included) would like to know is how do you plan to handle this part of the gameplay (the detective aspects). Is it going to be just story based ? Is it going to require some actual logic from the players to put things together and figure out stuff ? Is it a minigame of sorts ? etc.

For the moment the entire game is going to be story based. Currently we don't have time nor resources to add any minigames or any mechanics. Right now we would rather focus on continuing the story and giving more exposition on characters. The only mechanic (if you can call it that) will be flag/event system and a sandbox/free roam gameplay.

Let me share more about the current state of development of the game.

We are now finishing Aline's storyline. To be honest, if we knew how long it would take, we would have gone for another character at first. We've been working on this game for MONTHS already and only now we can see the finish line of the FIRST build. Anyway, don't mind me, I'm rambling. (It is very satisfying but still.)

So, about Aline Jones:
She's a college literature professor who's beloved by her students and respected by fellow staff members. She's attractive, sociable and intelligent. But there must be something wrong with her, right? Otherwise why would our MC have to investigate her?

I'll tell you why: it's because she's terrible with plants. Well, that and the fact that she is rumoured to be responsible for killing and disposing of her late husband. It's your job as a detective to investigate Aline and find out the truth.

Currently we are finishing the animations and rewriting final scenes. You should expect the release of the game in around 2 weeks.

Honestly it's mostly vanilla sex. We are both on edge if we should even add as both of us don't find it appealing.But we are willing to reconsider later on.

The game idea and artwork look great and unique, only *personal* issue I have is: wouldn't it sound better as "True Dicktective"? Dedicktive was hard to read, and the repetition of the "ee" sound leaves the word sounding like you're mocking it (Didictive)

Actually, "DICKtective" was the first idea for the name

. Unfortunately there are too many /kt/ sounds that make it too difficult to pronounce. The current pronunciation gets easier every time you say it!

Absolutely! Depending on the story and LI involved, the sex, positions and fetishes may vary. We don't want to reveal too much of the story or too many characters (since we would rather surprise the player) but a few pictures won't hurt anyone, will they?Anyway, here are two examples we can share for now:

Apart from that we plan to add A LOT of magical stuff that will help us explore some fetishes in later development.

As for MC, here he is:

A smart and kind-hearted guy who has yet to gain experience in the detective field. His life-goal is to become the most famous detective just like his idol, Shelock Holmes (a hot, sexy and cunningly clever female version of Sherlock Holmes). MC has a knack for (and INCREDIBLE luck in) solving mysteries so it's only a matter of time before he makes a name for himself.

We are sorry to those who were hoping for a horse-sized dick but there won't be one! We are also sorry for those who were hoping to see an average human-sized penis but that won't happen either (Was there somebody hoping for this?

)!
I guess if we can't keep both of these parties satisfied but we should make them suffer equally. MC's schlong will on the bigger side but nothing too unrealistic.
