Out of interest, does anyone know if this website will be effected by the new law coming into place on July 15th in the UK; it won't affect me but I can't say i'm eager to go plastering my personal details all over the place every time I want to beat the bishop.

If you look at the details of the new law, it is intended as a deterrent... There are several stipulations for sites containing pornographic material before it is required they enact the age verification systems:

1 - Commercial Sites (they need to receive money in some way, such as through posted paid advertisements, charging fees to members, etc)

2 - More then 1/3 of the site's content includes pornographic material

There are lots of other things associated with the law, such as the powers given to the agency being placed in charge of enforcing the new law... You can get much more detailed information about it all here:

All of this stuff will have a much bigger impact on the main stream porn industry, as well as large commercial internet companies that contain pornographic material and content... And many main stream porn sites, already have this age verification system in place already... The UK may be the first major country to start cracking down on various porn industry things, but the main reason (to make it tougher for kids under the age of 18 to access porn) is perfectly valid... Right now in our current climate, I don't see the US doing the same thing, but that doesn't preclude something taking place in the future...

In the long term, not necessarily related to pornography, many countries are getting to a breaking point where new laws and regulations are possibly in the works to curtail lots of various wildwest type activities on the internet... The US congress is holding hearings on all sorts of internet related things right now, some of which you can catch on C-SPAN now and then... Things such as facial recognition software, internet security, privacy laws with regards to social media, social media companies, adding regulations with regards to entertainment media companies on the internet (because right now they are not regulated like normal off-internet media companies in the same industry are, which is hugely unfair to the market), and all sorts of stuff... Changes, they are a comin'... Sooner or later this was all bound to start happening...

There was a committee meeting the other day where several congressmen laid into Facebook, Google, and Twitter with regards to election security, and perhaps breaking up the companies might be on the table or putting more regulations in place, as congress discusses increasing security of the election system... The internet has become this uncontrollable thing that in many ways isn't so pretty to look at right now... And it's effecting many things, globally, and not in a good way...
