The difference being that, if you're actually a masculine straight dude, you're chill with gay people, but if you aren't in MAGA you're almost certainly not chill with them.

Not to mention, Unicorns are associated with gay people sometimes, but other times aren't. In, just for example, a modern fantasy setting where magic and myth is actually real and the characters and plot are perhaps wizards who deal with magic pretty constantly, unicorns aren't gay, they're just magical horses.
Yeah I mean that's a ridiculous take. I don't know of any masculine straight guys who go around rocking unicorn merch. It's not done. A lot of people would take it as a low key signal that you love cock. That's just the world we live in dude.

Hey Wizards!

Shady Character One here!

So, what's new on the development side. Well, a couple of things. First I did finish writing Mitsuki's first three events. They did not come easy might I tell you. I guess it is a good thing that I left her for the last, even though it wasn't really intentional. We were actually keeping Mitsuki on the sidelines, because Shady Two had her own troubles with her design, while I was sure that I have everything I needed right there. To my surprise, when I finally turned to actually writing her events, everything about the character felt wrong. Well, not everything. All of her individual parts were fine, but they had that issue where they kind of contradicted each other, so whenever I wrote one thing, the others stopped working. It took me some time to pinpoint that main point of internal contradiction within the character. The issue was simple, I actually tried writing two characters at the same time. I was trying to write her as both her prototype character and the character that she became as I developed her story, which were two very different girls. Hopefully, the fact that I managed to write these three first events prove that I managed to finally find that middle ground between the two, or maybe simply just shed the remnants of the original proto-idea.

Either way, finishing these three events means that I will finally switch to finishing one other girl's storyline once Mitsuki's events are completely ready, sprites and all. Which will be the girl that I will focus on - that, my dear wizards will be for you to decide. Well, those of you who are supporting us for 5$+. I will be posting a poll on Patreon and Boosty, where you will be able to cast your votes.

Those exciting news aside, Shady Two and I finalized the pictograms form the extracurricular spells, which means that two more spell will be finally added to the game. I needed the pictures for those, since you purchase them in one of the stores. Lockpicking and Invisibility. Those two were waiting for a long time, since there's quite a few events that use them that have been written and implemented god knows how long ago. I do plan on adding even more uses for these spells in the future too, so having them all in the game is good.

Otherwise, we are also slowly ramping up the production. Hopefully we will be able to keep this up. We'll see next week.

Hey Wizards!

Shady Character One here!

I bet you are a bit tired of constant "I did that" and "I am working on this" updates, so I thought that maybe I should switch it up a bit and talk about some general issues that might trouble the development of a game. Like for example, something that I never expected to be an issue at all - translation.

Right off the bat I knew I would make the game in English and Russian, those are two languages that I know well and I can be certain that I could make the translation myself. And most importantly, I thought that that should be enough. But as time went on, more and more people started asking for other languages. Spanish, French, Chinese, German, and I even had one Vietnamese request. Even though I did expect to translate the game to other languages eventually, I was not expecting people to actually ask for translations. But regardless of my expectations, I am now faced by a conundrum: try working on translations to other languages, or leave things as is and ignore the plights of potential fans.

One might think that there's no problem with translation nowadays with the advent of LLMs and them being able to translate large swaths of text with great effect. I would not lie, it would be nigh impossible for me to translate all the text in the game just by myself, so I am using LLMs to help with translation, but all the text that it outputs needs to be read through, checked, and more often than not - re-written. Sadly, you just cannot trust the machine to do a complete translation right now.

Some might say that that would be "better than nothing", but those people have not read as much of the LLM-translated text as I had. I still did consider that option, but then I read about Silksong's release being ruined for Chinese players because of not so nice translation, and I thought to myself "And that happened to a game that is not 90% text"! So that idea has been put on the shelf for now...

Another option, of course, is to find people to translate the game, or at least check the LLM's translations for me. But that poses another issue. A lot of new events are being written and revised by me up until the very day of the release. I could theoretically send something to a translator to finish within a day, but that would only be possible with paid translators, because I don't think it would be fair to impose this kind of schedule upon volunteers. And I definitely could not just release new events in some languages and not others, so every added language would make the number of dependencies grow.

Arrrrgh. Yeah. So this is what I am thinking about now. Maybe the solution will come to me next week.

I'll see you all then.

Buddy, do us all a favor and don't spend 1 second on translating into other languages until you have a lot more fucking in the game. Holy cow.

Unless like, your goal is to have a very diverse group of people bitching about the lack of sexual content in your sex game in many different languages.

Yeah. Translations can wait until there's something of substance to translate.

Unless you want to offload the job onto someone else, in which case pop off I guess. But don't slow development on a game that's already spent WAY too fucking long for where it is, just because you want to translate it into a dozen different languages.

Sorry, Vietnam bros, but y'all ain't missing anything yet anyway.

Hey Wizards!

Shady Character One here!

So, what's our progress status this week? We are confidently moving forward. I have written one more random event and even have found some time and inspiration to get back to finishing the last few parts of the Halloween event that have not been finished until now. As many have rightfully stated, the game does lack the events that would visibly gauge the players' growing stats (aside from the exams which every single player wants to pass first try). So that's what I set out to do. There were a couple of recurring events before, and more were planned for later. But I decided to move that "later" a bit closer to "today". One such event was written a while ago, but it makes little sense without Shady Two's artwork, so it’s waiting until she has time to attend to it. But this new Spell Practice event doesn’t need one, so players will have something to test their skills repeatedly throughout the game.

On top of that, Mitsuki’s school uniform sprite is finished, and I’ve already coded all the necessary elements into the game, so she’s good to go. She still needs her casual outfit before I can include her in one of the three story events I wrote for her. However, I’ve already added her to the other two story events and a side event that’s been in the game for a while but didn’t previously include Mitsuki’s sprite. Consider it a small teaser of what's to come.

So she still has a bit of work needed to be put into her. A couple more expressions. An aforementioned casual outfit. And a "nightgown", so I can put her into the Halloween event which is completely finished aside from the scantily dressed girl sprites which Shady Two will hopefully finish soon.

For now, though, Shady Two is busy with other artwork that is almost complete. One is for the knocked-out pixie in the Spell Practice event, and another is for a knocked-out Violet in her fifth event. Shady Two is fine, she is not trying to send you all a message.

Well, let me just go check if the locks on the cellar door are holding firm, before going back to writing random events and, finally, the second Trial.

I'll see you next week!

We kept our dicks calm for months with little to show for it. There's only so long one can be patient before it becomes less reasonable than escalation.

Hey Wizards!

Shady Character One here!

This past week we mostly focused on ironing out small things in the game, and fixing the issues with girls' sprites that accumulated over the development time. Some of them were easy to fix, like slight inconsistencies or mistakes in line or color. Some of them were bigger, like girls not being able to wear shirts without skirts. But most of those issues are being addressed.

Before:

Now:

after.PNG

Fixing sprites also had me returning to the Dressing Room code, which is a horror to behold. And even more difficult to maintain. I tried optimizing and fixing it, but even Grok, who finally managed to optimize my calendar code, can’t even begin to figure out how to make this room work without breaking it completely. The issue is with how I wanted to organize the room. The same button can work differently depending on what the girl has on right now. For example, the "Shirt" button: if the girl is wearing anything but the shirt, like a vest or a completely different piece of clothing (or nothing at all for that matter) - the button should switch to a plain shirt sprite. But if the girl is wearing only a shirt - it should remove the shirt instead. But what to do when you put on the tie? It would be strange if the tie would be considered an important piece of clothing, so the button should just remove the shirt and the tie in that case. But since the tie cannot be worn without a shirt, I need to put on a shirt if the tie is selected when the shirt is not worn (and keep track of it), but if the tie is selected when the vest is on, which cannot be worn without a shirt too, I need to keep track that the tie is on, but that there is still clothes on top of the shirt, so the button should only remove the vest and tie. Confused yet? Because I am. I might've even made a mistake in this explanation somewhere.

Thankfully, when I code, I can kind of "trial and error" my way through it, but the Dressing room is quickly becoming the most logic intense part of the game, quickly replacing the Trial of Mind. Hopefully, as the time goes on and I fix the mistakes in the code and maybe find a way to optimize it a bit (or maybe if LLMs become smarter yet, and will be able to rework the code), but for now, I dread the time when the girls will have more than two main outfits.

Returning to the older sprites threw a curveball into Shady Two's workflow too. Since we're both working on our "secondary" workstations right now, a lot of things are not set up as they used to. So we ran into a problem where color profiles were not matching between the files, Shady Two's tablet, and my laptop. It took us a few hours to fix everything without ruining the files, and for a moment there it actually felt like everything was lost, and the sprites would either need to be recolored or we should wait until we get our hands back unto our primary gear who-knows-when. But thankfully, we managed to find a solution and you won't see Elizabeth's sickly color-shifted sprite.

Well, I guess that's it for today. I hope it wasn't too confusing to read this entry. I'll see you in the next one.

Hey Wizards!

Shady Character One here!

These last few weeks, Shady Two and I were watching the "Vote for the next girl to focus on!" slowly gaining more and more votes. Some of vote were expected, others weren't. But right from the start, the two favorites strongly asserted their dominant positions. To be fair, that does somewhat match the popularity of their fanclubs on our Discord server, but I did not expect such a big gap between the favorites and the outsiders. Especially when Gwen and Aisling turned out to be ones of those.

But the race between Violet and Elizabeth was something to behold. Violet quickly established a significant lead, but Elizabeth didn't let her win that easily, she was constantly in very close pursuit.

lisa vi.png

And that was kind of a problem. Because it meant that whoever the winner is - I will have to focus on the girl, whose storyline is very sensitive to the in-game timeline. Three of the girls rely on the in-game events and milestones to push their storylines forward, and Elizabeth and Violet are two of them. So that means that I really need to also focus on adding the third Trial of Cathal into the game ASAP, if I want to be able to focus on either of their storylines.

The progress was pretty slow on that front for a while now. I did plot out the Trial back in June and the event where the second Trial is announced to the player was written back then too, but I was shooting blanks whenever I sat down to write the actual trail. Well, no more procrastination for me there. And now, while Shady Two will be working on finalizing the artworks for the big update with the Halloween event next week, I will focus on the Trial of Might. I have already written the part where you discuss the upcoming round with Eric. Can't say that it came easily, but it did come. Writing can be like this sometimes.

I do believe that once I get past the first hurdle of the MC getting ready for the Trial and get to actual gameplay part - things will go smoothly. The intro to the first Trial was an easy one, firstly - this was the first one for our MC, so there was no really any variation and there was a lot of fear of the unknown involved. At the second Trial - our MC should be either much more prepared or even less prepared than the first time, so I need to come up with a way to either reflect that or come up with something more universal. I have a couple of ideas though, just need to figure out if any of those would be willing to get onto the paper.

Well, we will not find out until next week.

I'll see you all then.

so is this one of those games that will only have one sex scene per girl and only at the very end of their route? bit of a shame since the artstyle seems very nice
