VN - Ren'Py - Unexpected Consequences [v0.19] [Dream Cloud Entertainment]

I doubted whether this would be a 2 or a 3. I went with the 2 in the end because this kept screaming at me "mediocre".

The renders are nothing special, pretty basic stuff but nothing too bad jumps at you either, the light is correct, the colors are good.. .etc.

The animations are very, very basic, a couple of times, when having sex, the MC seems to be doing pushups. I rather not have animations than having whatever it is that is going on here.

The models of the characters are ok in general, they look like real people for the most part and there is a good variety of them. However their expressions and posing are quite lacking. The smiles are really, really bad, and many times the characters seem to be looking somewhere far off into the distance instead of at each other when talking. Some more care and attention to poses and face expressions would have helped this VN a lot.

The writing.... well, it is serviceable. There is some mystery with the dead parents, but it is not really elevated literature. Pretty basic stuff but we are here for the porn, right? so... how is the writing of the porn? well, as lacking as the rest of the story. The sex scenes jump at you nearly out of nowhere, there is a repetition of the dates (where they go, how the waiters talk to them, what they order, the walk after, and then touch ass, touch breast, touch clit and "oh, lets go home and fuck") , and the sex talk is pretty basic and not particularly arousing.

The worst part though is the dialogues and the progression of the relationships. It goes basically like this:
MC goes "hi, how are you doing?"
LI asks for help on something minor
MC helps
LI "wow you are amazing, I feel such connection"
MC "yeah, me too, it is crazy to feel like this, but I think I am falling for you"
Then they date, fuck, and join a polyamorous relationship
LI "I think I am falling also for your other GFs" (which she knows for all of 10 minutes and has had two basic conversations with)

There is no build up of tension, no progression of a relationship. They meet, the next day they are developing feelings, one date, and sex and full relationship. The same is true when there are previous issues in the relationship (which we do not see) like with Kat. The MC did something pretty awful, they meet for the first time after three years, the MC asks for forgiveness, she says yes, they resume their relationship and she happily joins the harem with no concerns at all, they have a date, and they fuck.

So.... if you do not have anything else to read at the moment, and are a fan of harem VNs were every woman is a virgin that falls for the MC without further questions, then you may enjoy this. Otherwise you will struggle to keep reading it. 2/5, a poor effort that could have done with some more character building, slow relationship evolution, care in poses and facial expressions, more work on the dialogues... and no need for the whole criminal mystery thing, it is nothing special and pretty silly.

I wanted to give this a 3, but it's just not there. Everything said in other reviews is true, but nobody is mentioning the characters. Every love interest has the exact same personality, and what personality exists is extremely bland. If you can swap the LI in the scene for any of the others and nothing seems odd, there's a problem.

It's true, as others have said, that this AVN presents a cookie-cutter set-up: boy new in town allows for harem of genuine housemates, plus aunt in the end. Generic visuals feature poses straight out of the box, in the early chapters, improving later on. The script is basic but recognisably native, and it gets the job done. Villlain-thwarting sub-plot is no more or less absurd than others in the same vein. There's a girl with a wooden leg (OK, next-gen artificial limb, yadda yadda) but they don't make a big deal out of it.

Most of that's done and dusted, and we have a proper harem approaching completion, with pregnancy scenes (and not just sex scenes), at the point that so many other AVNs drop out. With, at the end of 0.19, an unexpected visitor promising more fun. So for fans of the genre, it's worth more than the current rating suggests. Some of the harem girls also have fun with each other, but not behind MC's back.

I watched this and now I want to unsee it.
I tried in vain to see at least one normal girl/model in this VN and failed. The models are so terrible that it looks more like a horror movie than a porn novel. Okay, even if this VN isn't about the pictures but the plot, but no, the plot here is even worse than the models—some kind of wild nonsense about spies and a syndicate.
Basically, if you want a beautiful VN or an interesting plot, avoid this thing.

The game is pretty average, but I like the LIs and the overall tone. The pacing is a tad fast, but overall, I find the romance parts nice. Was another spy plot needed? Probably not. But it doesn't detract either.

All in all, it's a chill feel-good story without much stress, and some hiccups here and there.

Very mid. Models are decent enough except the mc. He is a little fugly, very short and seems to have odd proportions somehow. Like his mid section is too wide. Can't really put my finger on why he looks strange but he does. The dialogue is cringey at times and generic. There are a number of scenes with female virgins that don't act or appear to be virgins at all. Slightly odd for anyone that knows what it is actually like to be deflowered or to deflower a woman. I wouldn't say this game is awful but I also wouldn't say it is good. Like I said above, very mid. You may get some enjoyment out of it.

IDK. This VN has some things going for it, but ultimately falls flat in most of the key areas.

First off, the visuals. The model renders are fine, I guess, but posing is awful, being mostly store-bought poses that have little to do with the scene action. Another pet peeve of mine is when attention isn't paid to where characters are looking. There are so many scenes where characters are talking to each other but they're not actually looking at each other, or at the MC. It's disconcerting and gives everything a kind of uncanny valley effect. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Second, the story. It feels like it was going in a particular direction at the start. Typical college story tripe, but if it's leading somewhere then, okay. But it never gets that far. Somewhere in the first chapter, it feels like the story ran out of ideas or something. It started veering off into, what? Spy hijinks? And don't any of these "college students" ever actually, you know, go to college? Aside from a couple of scenes meant to introduce a fuckable teacher MILF, not a lot.

The beginning dialogue had a lot of "scene filler" content. You know, like "Thank you." "No, thank you!" "No really, thank you!" Then suddenly it seems like a switch flipped--"gotta have sex in here somewhere. Oh look, some random girl in a bar I can screw." Later on, it just seems formulaic-talk, talk, talk, do you want to fuck her?, yes-you do, no-nothing. Sometimes you have to speak to her twice, or three times. But (ironically, given the title) there are no consequences for saying yes to everybody, all the time, so what's the point?

I like Alice. Her bubbly personality, her height, her body. It's okay that she doesn't have a model face, because that's kinda real life. But at some point, she just turns into another harem fuckdoll. No relationship other than some occasional sex scenes. Mia starts off as a tsundere sort, but eventually vanilla blends into a forgettable character, like most of the characters added over time.

I'm torn on the rating, primarily because it's obvious that a lot of work has been put into this, and the visuals aren't horrible, and at least the writing isn't Engrish. And Alice. But beyond that, I feel like I wasted my time with this one.

TL;DR: There's some honest work put in this VN, but the result is not too impressive.

Models are mediocre. Some girls faces are unattractive (Alice, Rebecca...) But the developer chose 4k resolution, not fitting with models quality, just upping the game size to 11 Gb for no good reason. The game would look much better with 2k but more modern and more attractive models.

Music is mostly not to my taste, though that's not unusual for VNs.

Writing is not quite good: dialogs are mostly wooden.

The story is bad. Examples (not spoiling, it's all from the first meaningful conversation, day 2):

1. Teenage MC lives for years with a teenage girl. They have (romantic) feelings for each other but don't realize that.

What??? I was a teenager myself. I can imagine hormones etc. What I can't imagine is how I could be in love with a girl and not realizing that. Moreover, she's 2 years older and she does the same: in love with me but never realized that, in all those 3 years.

2. My (MC's) best friend is severely injured and taken to a hospital. Since that moment I refuse to see that friend. (Because it's too hard for me).

Come on, it's my best friend? What kind of immense gaping asshole I must be to abandon my friend like that? It's not just weird, it's some mental illness here. I can't and don't want to imagine myself like that.

So yes, at first the game seemed interesting (though only about half of the girls I'd call sexy), but... the interest was mostly lost at day 2.

1. Some music is not really fitting for me, not for a game centered around young people.
2. Some scenes make no sense, things happen that would not happen naturally or "in real life" creating a porn logic narrative that doesn't fit this game.
3. Added to above, random encounters like the mensroom scene are just too much and bury the needle in the porn logic.
4. Animations are slow, literally slow, they look like they running at 5fps...slowing them down doesn't make them longer, just FYI. Which brings about the next point, they short...
5. Added to animations, if they not too slow they too fast and then they lack any sexiness and have poor camera angles.
6. While renders are generally good, its obvious that there is a bit of skill lacking, like how characters stand next to each other, they don't fit or look at each other, as if they were just added to a scene but lack any interaction that is natural.
7. While LIs are mostly attractive, sometimes there faces really leave much to be desired.
8. While you have choices, there is technically only one thats right, else you just screw yourself over...
9. While I do enjoy pregnancy kinks, having a post nut chat about getting the LI pregnant and being ok with being a dad/mom and all that right off the bat like its the weather being discussed is such bullshit, especially for a virgin, and that at day 5? WTF...
10. MC accumulates LIs like he is giving away free cash. The very idea that "normal" sane characters would be open to a 8 way relationship again just hammers down on the porn logic of this game. It wouldn't be so bad if it was done tastefully and over time, intro to most LIs very early on and gradually develop romance, not here though...

OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS & FINAL REMARKS:

NOTE: The following remarks are my personal opinions and thoughts, which may provide more context and could be useful to the developer. (Read them or don't)

• Per nonsensical scenes, the MC find the new tenant coming out of the bathroom naked on day one. Firstly her argument that she is use to doing that is bullshit, she can't be that oblivious to not realise she is living with a stranger, first day, no habits, she also lets her guard down around a man she knows from Adam. Then the MC and naked chick have a conversation! What about "ill be right back after I get dressed then ill talk" ! Such writing are red lights to bullshit porn logic drivel which again, doesn't work for this game as that logic works on shallow, lighthearted and obvious porn games that are all about the sex and not the story.
• Some LIs faces look kind of freakish, like Jamies eyes are so small and far apart and she also has a pudginess that makes her look like a English bulldog. Some other have a look like they got some bad botox injections...
• To allude to the mensroom scene with a random chick who just walks in without issue, goes to MC and wants him to screw her and he proceeds, forget what are the odds, but ffs, what about STDs or how many other things wrong with that. The scene is clearly forced by the developer to create some porn logic scene for sake of having an H-scene, this is done so poorly, blatant and is so obvious that I can only shake my head at the developer. Classy...without spoiling it further, its simply a poorly conceived and executed event...
• The camera angles do get implemented eventually, sadly though they are missing from at least the first chapter and so create inconsistency in quality for this AVN. I would recommend the dev consider going back and implementing the angles on those also.

TLDR:

Not a bad AVN, but really not going to turn heads, it feels more like a debut for the developer and them getting their feet wet. In that case its a fairly good first attempt, but not a great game. Decent enough models and writing, but nothing exceptional or very sexy or kinky plus its filled with stupid porn logic scenes that make sense and clearly are there for the sexual scenes, but why bother with a AVN then when you can simply google porn...?

This is a solid mid-tier VN. It's not going to set the world on fire, but if you enjoy the major themes/fetishes then I think there is more than enough here to satisfy you. In my opinion, if you are a fan of Harem games with a breeding kink then this game has you covered. I hope it gets to complete its story.

I tried this once before. My few memories of it are "Why is this called unexpected consequences when nothing happens?" "This really needs to be converted to webm/p to cut down on space" and "This is yet another milquetoast boring story where MC walks room to room and is rewarded with sex because pron game." It's a paint-by-numbers collection of assets flipped into a porn game nothing, that I barely remember. Every scene generally should make you go "are you serious with this?" The UI has a minorly edited textbox, default everything else. The cringey walk cycles in the main menu do you no favors. This also does the "I'm possibly a character from the game introducing the game to you like an actor" another trope that bugs me. You'll notice this intro paragraph is pretty lean, especially for me, there's not a lot to say about this and I kinda just wanna be able to say "I reviewed it, don't need to look at it again." The only other thing I kinda remember is that the poses look like they're breaking bones a lot of the time, can't wait for that.


If you have half a brain, you should realize why this is bad. But I'll sum it up anyway to not have to play this again. The English, they constantly use wrong words and there's spelling mistakes, but wherever they got this dialogue from seems English. I don't know if it's AI or not but it reads so robotically that I can confidently say no human had fun writing any of it. The UI is just a few changed images and the UX is untouched, as far as I can tell. The Art is weak. Only two of the girls look appealing and one of them, MC never even gets with. The rest have these weird claymation faces that over-emote and would scare children. The dialogue is as if Barney and Friends or Barbie's Dream House made a porn game. Nothing any of them say feels natural or earned. MC will meet a girl and within 10 minutes they love each other and are having sex. MOST of the dialogue is about how much sex they are having, want to have, or will have. And if not, it's the entire group sitting around a table retelling every event of the story until that point to some new character. None of it is any fun to read. The Story itself is nothing. A global ring of evildoers and human traffickers want to make genetically altered people? Question mark? And MC's dad had a twin brother that was evil and got mad at his brother because he got caught? None of this happened on, or even near, the screen. It's all exposited to you through heavy handed dialogue by a surprise character. The only parts close to MC in any way is they want to rape MC's women and he's mad. Sure, they're awful people. But at no point did I give a shit about these robots. Half the time they're galivanting off to a toilet somewhere to have sex. But I also wanna ask, to the 4 people that get this far in my review, how is this game 2 stars but the other games that are exactly this bad 4 stars instead? Why do the other shit games get a pass? Because the models are prettier? That's the only thing I could possibly think of. Sure, maybe they're not written this vapidly, but not much better. Either way, this game is not good. Anyone that says otherwise has never played a game, read a book, or heard a story before. That's all there is to it.

Was going to give 3 stars, but adding 1 for Alice. Usually the taller than average women in a story are muscle bound dommy mommies, so it was nice to a see a normal tall ginger who loves to game. The main story is a bit out there, but that is nothing unusual for most AVN's. The story and romance move pretty quick as well. Grammar and spelling are better than most. LI's are varied and unique. Like that some are virgins and other's have had some life experience. Being bi is mentioned a lot, but at least so far it has all been as part of three ways with the MC. Overall enjoyable and looking foward to seeing where the story goes.

I just dont get it....it starts out ok for like 5 mins making you think you have choices in this game, like keeping things professional with the boss and such, then you go to the club with your two new rooms mates which are both hot, MC then takes a piss and some extremly ugly whore walks in telling MC to fuck him, and MC goes "this is not me, i wouldent do this kind of thing" and then goes to fuck this ugly bitch....it makes 0 sense for MCs personalty, 0 sense for the story and it makes 0 sense to do that shit when he has 2 hot girls waiting on him.

I can clearly see the plot from 50 miles away as well, MC and the ugly bitch was somehow drugged so they couldent stop wanting to fuck one another which changes nothing, its just a sad excuse to make forced sex shit and a piss poor plot seen a million times over and sure enough game turns into some mafia/syndicate story going even more crazy so yeah most defently not good and no forced sex scene in bathroom was not needed for story since you could just give MC the option to resist but still find it very weird, 0 need to force something the players dont want and story could still be the same.

Not that it would make story much better, the first roommate Alice comes stright out saying she dosent mind sharing MC at all even though hes her very first boyfriend...it just to weird and idiotic and ofc everyone loves the idea of sharing MC....fuck me....

So its very very clear that this game is just yet another mindless fuckfest game, with 0 build-up and no choices, i will never understand why devs belives forcing shit on people will result in more support for the game and then make more money on it which is most devs goal, its simply just dosent work that way.

And maybe 10 mins or so in, you already fucking one of the room mates as well, theres no romance or build-up with anyone really, it goes from 0 to 200mp/h in a second.

Game also makes use of yet another idiotic way of forcing sex scenes on you, by dreams.....so when MC dreams he can now fuck the room mates in them... i just dont want to see any kind of sex scenes with a girl before i deside i want to be with said girl.....

And if you go for another girl it goes stright to giving you lesbian vibes, i went for Alice the room mate and the girl missing a leg, when MC comes home with one the girl she has already texted the Alice to start up a 3-some....turning that down will then result in the girl saying she wll go into Alices room and see what she can do to make Alice happy.....so that means i now have to restart game to dump the one leg girl so that shit dosent happen.

Also game shoots it self in the foot, if you want to play faithfull route its impossible and if you do undercover your yet again being forced into sex scenes you dont want and not going undercover will make you miss alot of content, its simply just awfull.

Virgins scenes are also shit, even though they have hymen theres close to no pain and ofc no blood so very poor deflowering and virgin scene.

Animations are average at best but some scenes has very bad cam angles so you cant see shit or its just to dark.

Music is very nice has some with lyrics, proberly the best part of the game.

Choices, multiple forced sex scenes and dream sex shit.

I dont really see a way of saving this one, it would take to many changes.

The graphics are fine, if not up to date.

The MC is not ugly, but mis figured. Doesn't help that the dev decided to focus a lot of pictures on his face. Visually it ruins a lot of scenes.

The few LIs I met until the mentioned forced scene looked good. They seemed somewhat unique, although I read that they're basically rip-offs from another game.
Of course several get ruined by (ex-)boyfriends and colorful stories about their sex life.
All that weren't as as bad if you had any choice.

But there aren't any. Only choices consists of skipping or seeing sex scenes.
All relationships are forced as well, even with ruined LIs like engaged exes etc.
Overall this is completely kinetic with meaningles choices that pretend to give the player any agency.

The English is fine. Some wrong words, some misspelling. The dialogues feel unnatural but not unreadable.

All in all a big disappointment.

So, been a couple of months and decided to try it again. I think the bump down combined with the other reviews tells you pretty much everything you need to know.

If I had to put it into words, I just don't see that charm anymore. The parts of the game that I found charming stayed the same, so it's me that's changed, but without that charming veneer to brighten things up all that remains is the incredibly flawed game. Bad grammar, poor writing, boring and one-dimensional characters, eye-rolling levels of comedy, middling renders (at best), exhausting pace, and tons of porn logic.

Can't really bring myself to give it one star, but it's certainly not deserving of three.

I'm gonna be real, the only reason I'm giving this 3 stars instead of 2 is because I find it oddly charming, because in truth this is an incredibly flawed game.

The plot is fairly cookie-cutter for the AVN space, your parents were mysteriously killed and everything bad that's ever happened in your life is one big conspiracy, plus incest, plus cute roommates, plus sexy cougar boss, plus weirdly passive MC who somehow woos all the ladies, etc, etc, etc... You've read it a million times, and so have I.

Additionally, this game suffers from a chronic need to make everyone okay with each other. You're attracted to both your roommates? They talked amongst themselves and are both fine with being a throuple. Seeing your first love (with whom you traded virginities) for the first time in three years and you've recently started dating your roommates and you also didn't speak with her all that time even after she lost a leg? No biggie, she forgives you and wants in on your throuple. You went on a first date with your virgin roommate and ended up bedding her and cumming inside her? No problem, she says she's always wanted to be a mother and life's too short to play it safe.

See what I'm getting at? There's no drama, no conflict, no friction--everyone's just magically OK with everything, and that makes for a pretty boring story.

But the worst, for me at least, is the machine-like nature of the dialogue. Every character talks like they're a robot, in the most unnatural way possible, explaining what they feel and why they feel it in a manner no person would (especially not with people they met a few days ago.) The truth is that people suck at being clear and candid, especially when it comes to their emotions, which is why every sentence spoken in this AVN feels like it was written by AI.

And yet, I find the simplicity of this world to be weirdly charming. People say what they mean and mean what they say, everything just immediately works out fine, everyone's just happy to be there...

Ultimately, if any of the things I pointed out tick you off, it's probably not worth the download. If none of that annoys you to the point that you'll still try it, maybe you too will be charmed by it.

This VN is mediocre after all.

Writing is right down the middle, mediocre. Not terrible, not good. English is mostly decent. The "story", as in the background, is developing slowly, everything else is at a fast pace up to a point where it's just ridiculous. Some things make no damn sense at all.
Some examples:
MC has had sex just once in his life with a long-term friend of his out of love. That doesn't stop him from having a quickie without any protection with some lesbian in a men's restroom at a night club on his first visit to one of those. Both couldn't hold back in the moment and both regret it seconds after just going their own way after this. Both think they have been drugged, but hey... No big deal (...)...
Second example would be MC going on a date with his new roommate, a virgin girl who never had a date before in her life, who he "knows" for barely two days. She was nervous beforehand and MC thought it would be a good idea to fondle her private parts out in a public park right after they've had dinner. Totally out of character for the MC and even more so for this girl considering the provided backgrounds.

Renders are good for the most part, dev seems to have his problems with facial expressions, they're often distorted, putting it mildly...
"Animations" are as bad as they get. Barely any movement, no natural movement, looks like switching the same two pictures back and forth for the most part, resulting in "movements" of an inch or two here and there back and forth... Would be better off without animations at this part.

Considering everything so far I'm somewhat generous in giving three stars here, I pondered giving two or three and evaluating the potential of this one as well as comparing this to other VNs I go with the three stars for now.

So far so good, good start, story doesn't start off too bad, it depends a bit on how it continues. Characters are well done and the graphics are good too. Since it's still early days, we'll have to wait and see how it develops. 5☆ from me .

The game spends waayyyyy too much time focusing on the MC's ugly scrunched up face where he seems unable to portray correct emotions

The models are pretty good, fairly varied but as always fall into the cringe trap of half of them having tons of tatoos and piercings, short hair and manly features. But heh, I guess there must be an audience for that.

The renders are decently done.

The writing is hit and miss, there's no engrish but a lot of failures - confusing effect and affect, your and you're etc.

The story is what brings it down honestly. The mc is an absolute cringy coward. For some reason women throw themselves at him despite this. He has to constantly spend money on them in every instance, to get any attention. When sex does happen it's because women dont have free will, not because any relationship has been built up.

Also, it is basically kinetic. the player has ZERO control. It's either see content or pick the option that passes time with no content. In situations like eg peeking, MC because he is such an insecure coward immediately has to talk to them about it

Legitimately one of the worst VNs I've ever played. Let's go through it:
Story: Have you ever played the sandbox-harem game Love Sex & Second Base? Then congrats, you've also played Unexpected Consequences, because this game essentially takes every character and scene from that game, changes the names, makes the writing WORSE, and then pretends like it's the dev's own creation.

Writing: Being able to write dialogue is a huge part of making a story believable. Every one of us has had conversations in real life, so it's not too hard to write two characters speaking to one another like actual human beings. How does Unexpected Consequences manage this extremely basic aspect of storytelling? Well, here's a snippet from the MC's first night out with the two main LIs the day after he met them for the first time (direct quotations from the game) -
Idiot MC: Sorry to keep you girls waiting
Girl copied from Andrealphus' work: Hi MC, I'm glad you're back, I was starting to worry about you.
Other plagiarized girl character: Yea, what the hell took you so long?
Idiot MC: I'm not going to lie to you girls, I was having sex with a woman I just met. This was totally out of character for me, this strange feeling came over me and I just couldn't resist her. After we made it out of the bathroom it was like whatever came over us vanished and we both instantly regretted it.
Plagiarized girl: Y-y-you what?

Yes. This is how bad the writing is. Rating: -1,000/10

Visuals: It's pretty standard 3d style renders. Not as good as the top tier stuff, but a little better than average. Oh, and the MC looks like Frankenstein's monster, but without the green skin.

So what do we have? This is a VN that reads like an 11-year old's fanfiction. There's no original ideas anywhere, the dev just rips off a better game and made a much, much worse copy. Add it all up, and we've got....
