I'm not the best reviewer. But I'll just say that the dev has very consistently put out new content with good quality. And there's a good variety of storylines you can go down and the corruption theme is pretty good overall. It is also a nice feature how you can have some control over what you see or do in the game, in case some fetishes are not to your liking. And a small but nice touch is that you can alter the protagonists personality somewhat depending on which club you join.
I also found the art to be very nice! It's got an anime style, but with a little more personality to it than a lot of other anime type games you might find out there.
The drawbacks would be that the gameplay mechanics don't seem to add much to the game, they aren't the most grindy but also not very engaging and feel like an afterthought. Also I would like to see corruption have a bit more of an affect on the protagonist, such as with dialog changes or people reacting to the outfits you can buy.
This game was a visual novel. Total 18+ content for 10 minutes. The rest is 99%, a lot of clicks on repeating locations in the hope of seeing 18+. routine and the killer of your real time. Graphics are 3, plot 2, atmosphere 3. The game, if it was good, then only at the beginning of development, then worse
I very much enjoy this game. The routes, relationships, and branches of content give the game a pretty great amount of replay value, at least 3 full runs worth.
Also the characters themselves are very sweet. (Or terrible when they are supposed to be)
I remember that I played this game some years ago and wasn't this a VN before?
So, I have played many games on this site and there were also a lot of boring ones, and this one is definitely up there.
I've played somewhere around 90 minutes and had to stop because this is such a boring, half-assed game that gave me a headache.
Everyones taste is different but I just can't see where the fun is with this garbage.
The sandbox is absolutely useless and wastes your time by clicking on the same places you have to go every day.
Sometimes I wonder if devs actually play their games, or just add useless stuff to waste peoples time so they can drag out content.
You wake up, go to school, work at a coffee shop, do your homework, take a walk and get in to random repetitive situations that are half-assed and you either see no picture or just one picture and then go to bed.
The story is lame and I don't care for the characters. Your choices can be pretty strict and lock you in a path.
Some choices are not clear at all which is why I used URM.
Again, why not just make this a VN and show the consequences under each choice instead of linking to a google doc of a walkthrough in her computer?
Another thing that shows how half-assed the game is are "dream sequences".
I only found it by accident because it was in the menu and there you can choose certain fetishes that will appear in your dreams.
All fetishes or kinks were turned off which is not surprising given it just shows you a grey image and a bunch of text.
I havent seen a sex scene during my playtime, just one where she masturbates and a couple of oral scenes.
The art in this game is very inconsistent, especially at the beginning of the game when you have encounters.
All of them are so poor and consist of only a few images and are totally forgettable.
There is no sound except the same old generic song. For some reason you can listen to quite a lot of songs on her laptop but can't change them to your background music.
I can't recommend this game. Don't waste your time.
The game is simply criminally undercooked. It really needs more content that isn't centered around single characters but the whole shebang.
Art is okay, but it isn't as lively in poses as it could be, the thing that makes the artstyle weird is how some characters are positioned. They really look like loooong sticks. Maybe it's because they are so zoomed out, I don't know, but the author really should look at that.
Music is fine, generic. Sounds are for sure lacking(no sounds during scenes).
Overall the story is fine-ish but it is VERY reading-heavy which wouldn't be that bad but the backgrounds and characters are pretty static. Also the limited amount of backgrounds(different restaurants for example).
If you are more into the reading part of hentai games it might be bumped up to strong 3/weak 4 for you.
Good game, the sandbox portion isn't obtuse and the art is great. There's a lot of content and actually quite a few choices to be made that actually affect how the story goes. For example, if you want to avoid contact with Matt, you have to avoid falling into the trap he sets or you, then you barely see him.
3.5/5. Great writing and art, terrible crisis of identity in terms of mechanics.
Uni's a fairly grounded high school slice of life visual novel / psuedo-dating sim where the protagonist:
Wakes up
Attends school lessons, which are boring and lack content
Talk to a classmate or two
Work at a bakery, café, generic drugstore, or a bar, get caught up in whatever happens there
Hang out with love interests (good) or wander around town (hardly any content)
Attend clubs (weekends only)
Sleep and repeat
Winds up in a (mostly) realistic problematic situation
There are a large number of routes, but as of v0.59.122 only one is completely finished (that is, playable after the route lock).
Most characters are written fairly realistically in my opinion, to the point that it's difficult for me to sexually objectify either them or the situations they end up in like a regular hentai game. Kate in particular is by far my favorite for having the personality of a heavenly angel and being hot as hell.
The presentation is good, with all CGs and character sprites excellently drawn and a great soundtrack. That title theme alone is ear porn.
The writing is exceptional, with lively characters and complex personalities.
Two major issues exist that break this game's design, however.
First, the game's content feels empty and lopsided without a sense of progression, even when considering that it is under development.
The optional bully Matt has a ton of scenes that interact with nearly every other character, and yet the mandatory day-to-day school life lessons have only a pittance of dialogue by comparison. An entire optional game-within-a-game Aeon exists completely decoupled from the main story with a ton of dialogue, and yet you have only a handful of random events when walking around town.
The other issue is that Uni feels somewhat lost without an identity: is it a visual novel, or is it a dating/life sim (the more formal definition, with stats and decisions of what to do every time period)?
Your intelligence only matters for doing homework (mandatory, but only one textbox long without any excitement). It decreasing during the Bakery route doesn't truly count here, as you end up never doing homework again anyway.
Money is only useful for certain routes and paying rent (clothes/bedrooms are solely graphical changes, and other purchases are all pocket change). No "upgrades" can be purchased that improve gameplay or add new scenes/dates or simply give you more time to do stuff.
Dates are scheduled on specific days, but afaik there is no calendar to view them ahead of time.
Corruption does almost nothing, with little content locked behind it.
The main reason I personally like the game is the writing and how human the characters feel, which gets best exemplified if you have Chelsea makes moronic decisions of epic proportions and then realize how screwed she is.
tl;dr, the game should commit to either being a Visual Novel proper by excising the meaningless repetition, or it should go all in on being a proper dating simulator with a sense of progression.
Translation:
"I wasn't super impressed with this one as much as I thought I would. Everything just seems sort of... Flat if that makes sense. It's not bad but it's still missing that extra something.
- Gameplay
Pretty simple to follow and nothing super flashy either. The game uses some objects in the backgrounds such as the laptop or closet in the bedroom, but the objects in other backgrounds could be used for better alternative methods of spending time or even used for character interactions. An example is the TV in the living room. I was surprised there wasn't an option to watch TV to pass the time to either avoid the wander around events or have a quicker way to speed up progress. Could even be used to invite characters over for a movie night such as Damien who's first/ second date is a literal movie theater. Also wasn't a fan of the day cycle, feel like you should be able to go to school and be able to interact with characters etc. before moving on to the next part of the day rather than waiting for the "Go to school" time of day.
- Storyline
Intro was kind of dark for a hentai game lol. After that it's not terrible but it's just like I said "Flat".
- Artwork
It's pretty good when it's the actual cutscenes/ background pieces. The rest looks a little janky in my opinion.
- Change or add anything?
I'd add the option to have multiple clubs and or jobs and be able to adjust the weekly schedule of what days you do what or have a preset schedule. Having an adjustable schedule would allow players to prioritize one or more over the other, while also still working on the others.
Quality of life improvements for some menus like the bedroom changer, once purchased it should be accessible in the bedroom rather than going to the mall to set it.
A reminder/ goal tracker with details and some hints if needed wouldn't hurt but not a major thing since the game runs like a straight line with events as far as I was able to see.
- Would I play again?
If further down the line we can get more quality of life stuff and maybe some smoother artwork all around, then I'd be willing to give it another go."
All route are great.. outside anything to do with Matt. This game would be better without him , for real.
But everything is forgiven because there's two yuri route, two straight route and a bunch of flavour for corruption. I just wish it had a few more CGs for ''black screen'' scenes.
I loved this game when I first stumbled upon it years ago.
It was a simple slice-of-life game with a dating simulator aspect. It didn’t have much content, but the potential was there. Sadly, after years of slow updates and questionable development choices, that potential was never realized.
The "Love Interests":
- Katie: A wholesome lesbian romance with depth and many branching paths.
- Violet: A bluntly introduced dom/sub relationship that feels forced.
- Damien: A generic insecure boyfriend with forgettable content.
- Matt: The blackmailer, the rapist, the NTR option, and the devs' favorite.
My main issues with this game are:
- Extremely slow updates: For a visual novel, the amount of content added per update is frustratingly low.
- Overwhelming Matt focus: If you don’t resist Matt on Day 1, he forces his way into every other route as the NTR option. He blackmails Chelsea, rapes her, and somehow, after a few encounters, she starts enjoying it. This shift feels completely rushed and nonsensical, playing into the "corruption" trope in the most forced way possible. It feels more like the devs are pushing this as the core experience, which damages the flow of the game and makes it all feel unnatural, uncomfortable and extremely forced.
- Abrupt and unfinished content: Many storylines end abruptly, especially outside of the Café/Bar route. Even town events, like the bar guys storyline, have been stagnant for years.
- Nonexistent corruption system: The so-called corruption mechanic is just a stat with no real impact. Chelsea doesn’t even need corruption—she jumps into bed with any love interest without hesitation. It's merely a wall for when certain content is supposed to trigger.
- The school section feels like unnecessary filler: It’s just there to introduce three love interests and force you into a club that only adds content on weekends. It’s pure bloat. Absolutely nothing worth of note happens here. Just remove all of that bloat, make Chelsea go to school automatically in the morning to skip extra clicking and just let us go to the club activities on the weekends.
At this point, the only way to save this game is to rework it from the ground up.
After years of disappointment and wasted potential, it's a 2 out of 5 for me.
- I din't like It.
+ The game looks promising.
- The part of the ingredients of the bakery side mission I just... No, horrible.
+ Maybe a new mechanic to see objectives/hints?
+ The choices that are unknown maybe some helps to know if the characters are as good... enough, Paths/Routes... how can you understand some situations without make an error if It was one? (strange)
- It feels empty yes.
If you like emotional stories with love and tragedy mixed together, this is a perfect work-in-progress to try. As of this review, there's little to do in "sandbox" but the story and artwork is fantastic. I highly recommend this game!
It was simply amazing. I wish there were more games with this nuanced gradual corruption and broad choice possibilities. If you can recommend more like this, please mention/poke me, since i'm very willing to discover and experiment with similar games. Thanks for this work!
I've enjoyed this game way more than I had ever expected too. I like the branching storyline so far and I can't wait to see what the future continues to hold for this game. I also look forward to more mods being made for this game, it's nice that it can be modded and it's for the most part a pretty easy thing to "install".
It's not a bad game, but it feels empty due to the lack of images. There are many events (lewd and non-lewd events) with just a black screen or an image that has nothing to do with the event - and the rare H-scenes with images have no animation. This game doesn't need any updates with new content, it badly needs a rework update.
Game is enjoyable, the fmc is very cute and offers many ways that you can customize her. There's plenty of sexy scenes, but I think the game shines due to it's characters. You have a varied cast, and every character seems enjoyable so far. I really liked Violet and Matt's routes, though bc I played through the Bakery route the Matt route gets cut off. The cheerleading route is fun, I want to try out the other routes in the game at some point - such as the other clubs, and maybe see if there are any other job routes besides the Bakery.
Enjoyable game, a bit grindy bug great graphics/illustrations. Lots of different branches/paths and sub-routes. You can choose if you prefer vanilla, dom/sub, blackmail, NTR etc. Looking forward to what future updates bring.
Uni is one of the better H visual novels, but that isn't saying much. The game is carried by its beautiful art and erotic writing and let down by its gameplay, which consists of you trying to find the next erotic scene and nothing else. Certain choices close doors that need you to play the game again to find, an annoying quirk of most H VS's who's non-h story isn't worth the time to read. In my opinion, get the cheat mod and unlock the gallery, the erotic writing isn't worth the effort.
It's been many years since I tested this game, at that time the game felt empty (since it was a very early version), now that the game is over verion .5 I decided to give it another try.
I was happy to see how much the world expanded over the years, the characters feel alive and the protagonist can be as cute or slutty as you want. Usually I avoid visual novel type games since they tend to just be sex scenes all over the place without many deep but UNI is something different, it's one of the few H-VN's in which I actually care for the protagonist.
The game also come with plenty of customatization on the Main character, from many different clothes to hair styles.
The Art may be in some areas the week point, I mean the portraits and CG's of the characters when they are standing are great (specially the protagonists) and some H-Scenes are also top tier but there are also some H-scenes (sex scenes) that look very strange, protably they where drawn on the first versions of the game while the top tier looking CGs are modern, still you will be hooked so you most likely won't mind much about it.
The writing is perfect, it may not be a master piece but taking into account that this VN is about a girl moving to a new city and going to school and work just feels right, the writing feels so natural and real.
As for the current lenght I played last night over 3 hours and it seems there is plenty of content left so even if its at verion .53 its already longer than many hentai VNs.
If I can't skip school, why don't just teleport me ?
If I can't skip work after school... Why don't just teleport to work after school...
If the only thing I can do after work is 'walking around', then why not just teleport me to 'walking around'... (or ask the player, if no return to bedroom)
If access the shop isn't time consuming why not just put a 'shop' button down somewhere and just teleport the player ?
Why bother design a map and a point and click feature who is obviously useless since you don't choose your destination...
I hate nothing more than useless things, like useless or obscure stats and this game have both... Does the grade affect anything ? Is the corruption system useful ? The events are so random it's hard to tell...
Does the clothes help to trigger event ? Even though hairstyle and clothes aren't displayed in the few CG's you'll get through hours of reading... And 'exploring the map'...
(I'm not against reading when it's interesting though...)
Is it interesting here ?
Why is the MC a poor orphan girl if she don't even deserve a good partner ? The two main male love interest are a disgusting bully who literally assault you minute one without even speaking and without any way to avoid it... The second is the typical nice guy bully victim...
He's nice but, that's it...
Funny how this dude can do anything but you get expelled for nothing and instant game over... Ended up locked in the blackmail path while trying to enjoy the Kate or Violet path... Couldn't call anyone to help me so what is the phone feature good for...
The art is cute but the game is random, it's hard to get which choice have an impact or not. Got locked on a path I dislike and screwed another one without any way to understand it until bad thing happen... Or nothing...
Since you have to wait for the next event to occur only after 10 in games days without meeting a character so you learn that you screwed up a choice, or maybe have to pass 10 more days to be sure...
So even if you are into non con stuff, which I could be if my MC wasn't an orphan written in a way you kinda want a good path for her. You will just spend more time reading than enjoying anything and have to wait until the 'good' event is trigger.
Too bad, the game had a lot of potential but hey, two things can ruin a game... Lack of ideas or excess of ideas...
This one try to take too many directions without what it takes to make such a huge game with so many characters and mechanics...
Either you have the means of your ambitions, either you stick with a simple idea... If you don't... Then you'll end up with a game like this one which will take years to fix...
