Sorry for necroposting but this thread pops up in google when you search for this issue. Recently i started to get black screens in unity and other games, in videos and cutscenes mainly. So what was causing issue for me is vsync. I don't know why, but some games refuse to work properly when it's set to "fast", so the solution is simply turning off vsync in Nvidia control panel.

Do you have a radeon GPU by any chance? I use Unity to develop games, and people encountered issues with videos using VP9. Using VP8 fixed the issue, since your issue seems to be related to videos, that may be why.
Of course there is no way for you to edit that, so forcing vsync off may be your only solution, assuming the issue is truly this.

Nope, RTX 2060 super. It's not even THAT old to have some weird issues. VP9 isn't exactly new codec either. Maybe it's some weird combination of settings that causing this problem, but i just couldn't find anything about it on google.
