Hi

I am looking for help with a visual novel harem game I am making with Unreal Engine 5.

The game:

If you want to get a quick view of what I got so far, I think it's easier to just download the game because it has only like 10 minutes' worth of content.

In short, it's a visual novel, with a female protagonist, all lesbian harem game, for which I plan to make a Male MC version also.

What can you do?

I have no prior experience in game development but am learning fast.
Almost a year ago, I downloaded Unreal Engine for the first time, and several months later, I uploaded a test version that was made with blueprints.
After that, I found out that I'm better with C++ than with blueprints, so I started to rebuild everything in C++ and added all the features that most Ren'Py-made games have.
Further, I am passionate about animating in UE and starting to learn Blender also.
Part of the reason why I started this game is because I want to create good sex scenes with a lot of kinks/fetishes to choose from. Therefore, when it comes to writing, coming up with a normal scene takes me several times longer than for a sex scene.

Why Unreal Engine for a visual novel?

I like games and game development in general and would like to create a non-visual novel game in the future. That's why I don't want to use Ren'Py.
No need for licenses when you use assets or MetaHumans in UE.
I am using MetaHumans, and with like 1K bones in their face, their Dick Sucking animations are gonna be awesome.
Also, if I'm right, in Ren'Py, you need to code every line of dialogue, and because I am using data tables, at some point there will be no need for coding anymore. And I am using the screenshot function in UE to make the images, so only the videos have to be rendered.

What do you got so far?

The framework has now almost all the features that most Ren'Py games have, like skipping, choices, animations, name change, etc., etc. But there are still some little things I would like to add/improve.
Technically, the biggest challenge that's left is probably to make it so that I can use .webp images in this framework, so the game will be much smaller, and shipping this game for other platforms besides Windows.
The framework has a functional sandbox mode already that needs only a few improvements, but I was not planning on using it until there are several girls available with whom the MC can fuck.

In terms of 3D, that is where the most work will be. But what I have is two big-titties female characters that I bought, that have morph targets/shape keys for genitals.
And one MetaHuman character that is almost ready to be used for nude scenes.
I have a few clothing pieces for the characters, and besides the free assets from Quixel and Marketplace, I have some other assets that can be used in this game.
The female MC version ends now on day 1 in-game, and I have some chunks written for up until the beginning of day 5. I don't really have a story; I just write on the go.
But if someone is passionate about writing, I am open to redoing the story.

I am looking for someone to partner up with to collaborate on the long term. The game has made no money so far, but I am willing to split the revenue depending on how much effort you would put into this.

Whats point of using UE if you are not using any of UE features just use renpy. Metahuman chars dont have any good body. They are only good for head. Renders also look pretty bland. Especially lighting.

With Renpy and python I am not really learning how to make non visual novel games. Also because of the licensing for using Metahumans and assets.

The images are actually just screenshots and not rendered. I have have not spend much time on getting the images as high quality as possible. I know visually it needs a lot of work still but I'm confident it can get only better from here.

My opinion is that you shouldn't create a VN in Unreal, especially if you already have some experience.

Instead, pick a core game mechanic and build a simple game around that. You're gonna learn 10x more that way.
It could be anything, the simplest example would be match 3, which I'm not a fan of, but you get the idea.

You said that you've already used UE for over a year. It makes no sense for me to build a VN, if the sole reason is to get better at UE. Focus on the type of games you want to make from the beginning, instead of trying to learn it making a VN.

my advise for the op are to make a detail plan , planning is far more needed then what most people think.
