Using GDevelop as an engine

A random glance at Itch's current and upcoming game jams exposed me to something called "GDevelop 5". It looks like an open source counterpart to GameMaker Studio.

I'm mulling over trying to make something in it (at the moment, just using sprites ripped from the Sexbound mod for Starbound, so nothing I'd consider publishing) and want to know if anyone else has experience with this thing. Seems pretty flexible, but I want to know if it's a pain in the ass to work with or not.

I should note that the main hangup I'm having so far is UI layout by doing the tutorials. I'm too used to GM but it's not a killer, since it seems at least as capable as GM (and, as a bonus, seems you can publish without buying a license.)
