As the title suggests we're working on a game with vampire theme which is gonna be a story and event driven management game mostly. The game will be developed in c++ as we're working game devs and it's the fastest and more flexible. All drawings will be hand drawn. One thing the team can't decide on is the time of the game. We're unable to decide between medieval and modern times as medieval times will most likely be more aesthetically beautiful but modern times may provide broader and more original ways to create stories. Game will inevitably be inspired from Castlevania and Bloodlines : Masquarade depending on the time. Looking forward to your replies on this matter. Feel free to ask about other aspects of the game itself aswell but i must warn ahead that i might not be able to give definitive answers as almost everything is subject to change at this point.

Personally would like to see Medieval era. Too many Vampire games are modern.
i prefer medieval or any other time to modern, personally. But thinking over it modern can add more flavor to the story and events and it's also more compatible with the way we are designing the game. Management part will include a city building aspect to it and some buildings that i want in simply cannot be translated into medieval era like strip clubs and casinos. and being an avid fan of everything related to history i don't want to make something that is full of inaccuracies if it's gonna be historic.

You're making a Vampire game, I think you can afford to be a little inaccurate.

I wouldn't worry too much about being historically 'accurate'... Besides, this place is full of games set on modern times, while packing plenty of inaccuracies. I mean, how many times you've seen a game with a 'poor' landlady, who is forced to rent rooms for sleazy 18 yo girls & boys, when she lives in a 13-room mansion with a private pool, plus a garage full of shiny sports cars and luxury-suvs!

Fair points both i guess. Can you link me some vampire games that are set during modern times here so i can see what the problems are. Or better yet can you tell me what kind of problems do you think modern setting causes? We were gonna do it modern while still trying to keep the vampiric aesthetic with clothing and style. As i said personally i'd prefer a historic setting but modern opens more opportunities for story telling, so i thought it would be more preferable by you. Like the thing with vampires not having a reflection or not casting shadows i thought would make an interesting plot point for security or personal cameras, they're not gonna be seen in them either and they'd have to be more cautious around places that has people, cameras and mirrors. Like an entrance to hotel let's say, most hotels have alot of mirrors in their entrance, people, and security cameras aswell. i thought we might make a double edged stealth play if the vampire can force it's reflection to appear on mirrors/cameras, like where you want to be seen in mirrors when people are around but you also don't want to be spotted by security cameras when you are doing shady stuff.
