VN Pet Peeves

Wanted to share a few pet peeves of mine in VNs, and was curious about your thoughts and what yours were.

1. Two Sisters and a Mother: Incest games keep doing this, and the formula is starting to get old.
   1. A younger sister that is (most likely) a virgin, sexually inexperienced and has a crush on her older brother. Tends to have a body that leans the opposite of curvy.
   2. An older sister that is experienced sexually, usually has a source of income, is more often a bitch to the MC and usually requires her brother to help take risque photos of her for work purposes. Also ranges from Hourglass figure to "Where are my basketballs?"
   3. An incredibly well endowed mature woman who is reading articles about Japanese mothers giving their sons blowjobs for concentration issues. Yet, this article never actually convinces the mother to do anything, it's simply a bizarre fact that is constantly being mentioned. Stop talking about it.
2. Underdeveloped bodies: If she isn't overly curvy, she's flat as a board.
   1. Someone said in another thread that "Real women have this body." and sure, true. But I'd argue most women in the real world have a body that is somewhere between this extreme, and that of the other we see here. What I'm seeing are a plethora of characters with chests flatter than an 8 year old boys. Please, diversify a bit. It'd be one thing to have A character like this, but some games mix in many characters like this.
3. Equating maturity to breast size.
   1. Please. YOUNG characters can have large breasts, OLD characters can have small breasts. Not EVERY Milf needs to have boobs bigger than my head, let alone having boobs bigger than 4 of my heads. Diversify, please! Give me some options!
4. The formula to introducing a sexual relationship.
   1. Can I see it?
   2. Can I touch it?
   3. Can I lick it?
   4. Can I fuck it?
   5. Can I anally fuck it?
      1. PLEASE! SOMETIMES, PEOPLE SKIP THE FIRST 3 STEPS AND DO THE 4TH! Stop having every character forcibly follow the same sequence where they wont do one step untill all the others have been reached. MIX IT UP A BIT!
5. Dream Sex.
   1. Or as I like to call it. "For story purposes, you can't have sex now, but since we don't want to bore you, let's have the MC have a sex scene while they're asleep with either a random character, or a non plot related sex scene with a main character, JUST to get you horny.
   2. I'm here for the story! I don't need pity sex scenes thrown in my face. Take your time!
6. Money as a mechanic.
   1. Unless finances are a major plot development, like that one where you are in debt to the mafia and have to earn cash to stop them fucking with your life, Stop making me play fucking mini games / give me a daily task to earn cash to limit my progress. This is for VNs in particular, but I'd rather a more linear playthrough where I am buying things as they are needed / wanted. And not giving me a visible wallet means you can play around with affording things / negatives. I don't want to have to spend a period of my time spamming "Go to work -> Sleep -> Go to work" just so I can buy something, or grind a mini game. Unless the money is plot relevant, or you are doing a more mechanics based game with resource management, stop!

2. An incest patch which only changes titles. There's more to it than what you call each other, but for most games it's just surface level, sadly.
3. RenPy VNs without settings to adjust the dialogue box opacity (fucking thing takes up nearly a third of the screen sometimes)

Point 5 in all its forms. Dream sex, sneak peeks, quick sex with uninteresting side characters...

Sleep sex. I find it boring, creepy and cheap.

Lack of steady story/character progression. Slow brun is one thing, getting stuck in the same place, playing through scenes galore without nothing really changing is another, and it gets boring really fast.

Overly dramatic stories. And stories were the porn content is not part of the plot and inconsequential.

What're your pet peeves?

I'd say you're on point with all of these. Unfortunately, a lot of talented graphic folks aren't talented in writing and just recycle other plots/scripts.

One thing I'd like to add, is I'd like the ability to turn down sex with any and all characters if I so chose. I'm sorry, but I'm not attracted to head shaved, tattooed, bitchy women. If it's mandatory to drive the plot, I understand, but that isn't always the case. But most times the game won't give you a choice regardless.

There are a several other kinks I'm just not into, but I believe that would be going a bit too far, you can't please everyone. And I understand these games aren't being made just for me.

I hope if any developers read this they will take it in a constructive context, not just me bitching about things.

Eroge where all the H scenes are clothed sex, I dont know why they keep doing this, stop. I can tolerate 1 or 2 but I get absolutely nothing from fucking a maid, qipao, swimsuit. Seriously whats next? Hijab? Beekeeper suit? Pointless variety, I like the girl, not her clothes

I dislike when a games give you choices that don't matter. It's worth implementing such choices when you can unlock a scene, or the story changes. But when only dialogue changes...I feel a bit tricked. Another one is when sandbox elements are implemented, but they are used in combination with grindy and repetitive tasks. It makes the game a lot more boring.
