hi guys,

already 2 weeks into Daz Studio, really fun, already spent ~100hours in Daz
Ready to start my own game! (y)
BUT sometimes i ask myself, "was Daz Studio the right decision for me" ?
Like when it comes to Genesis Models and XXX ;) etc Daz is amazing !!! but with everything else, i feel there is content missing..
f.e 3d Scenes ( building ) /3d objects ( cars etc ) , i cant find much for Daz/Poser but 349589308539069034 for 3dmax/Vray/Blender etc and they look CRAZY, like AMAZING !!!..
Dont get me wrong, there are some nice scenes / buildings / architecture / objects on daz3d.com, but not that much..

Do i miss something ? or even lacking some knowledge / information ?

Daz is like a power tool, really good for its job
Blender is like a set of hand tools, slower but they can do similar work or at least are more flexable, using it can EXPAND your skill set, give you more option. It shouldn't be daz vs blender, but rather daz plus blender. I myself use daz for character creation, but blender for everything else (animating, rendering, sculpting characters, making houses, etc). (The link is to an incomplete, and bias/old post I made that I should seriously update some time)

Saki_Sliz interesting read @EXPAND --> conclusion: right now, daz3d is the best solution for me!! But now, I am very interested in Blender ! step by step i guess :)

I am so motivated !! thank you for your reply.

There are a ton of cars available for Daz, of all types, from Ferraris to Lamborghinis, BMW's, Range Rovers, classic cars, old beater cars, even a Kia. Just go over to 3dload and do a search for cars.

DAZ is the tool of the beginner in graphical design. There is nothing you can do with DAZ that you can't with Max/Blender, much better. This cannot be disputed.

Incidently, using tools that don't limit your creativity would also help your characters to stand out from the crowd, making your game at least somewhat unique and memorable, in avoiding to look like a carbon copy of all the other cheap games out there.

I have the exact opposite problem. A lot of environnements assets in Daz (or anywhere tbh) looks wayyy to nice. Every room is like a five star hotel, every dinning table set looks like you're gonna eat on a three star restaurant... In general, every textures are way too clean.

Best env assets, imo, are the one who use some kind photogrammetric technique like Euro Apartement from roguey. I'm not sure how he/she does it but the result and the amount of details are just incredible.

It doesn't really matter with what you render, iray or whatever, once you have such quality textures/assets. Those complete assets package (not talking about a single rock lol) are kinda way too rare sadly.

Big problem in finding Landscapes, f.e a park ( fully build ).. there are so many great ones for 3dmax but hardly for daz3d

You can import 3D assets that are not made for Daz via File -> Import.
Best file format is .fbx because it automatically loads the correct textures. Add "Iray Uber Base", or "Architectual" shader (both in Smart Content -> Shader -> Iray -> Uber) and you'll have a nice looking new asset nobody else is using in Daz.

1. Create a pane
2. add dFormers
3. add an HDRI sky
4. instance grass/trees/rocks/butterflies/benches/whatever
5. Bam your own park  (quality will be equal to the assets you used)

"Architectual" shader
I don't think I've ever used it. Looks like Iray Uber 'lite' with less layers.

Technically this is true, I'm not calling you a liar. 3D assets that were made for other programs can be imported into Daz Studio, then comes the part where you spend hours making them work in Daz. You can then turn around and sell your work in the Daz store. Simply importing a 3Ds max file into Daz Studio, it won't look anything like it did in Max.

You get the same screen for every supported file format.
And of course the materials will look different, at least unless you use the iray plugin for 3DSmax, but you can always simply apply the iray uber shader with one click ;)

A hundred hours in Daz studio isn't going to kill you, but if you keep drinking the Daz koolaid you'll lose your soul, like some of these Daz zombies posting here.
