Do you like a story with meaningful progression or good pacing? Do you want to see porn in your pornographic VN? Do you want to experience anything even remotely interesting whatsoever? Well, sorry, but that's not happening here. The dev has so far spent 12 updates and 2.44 GB on telling a bland story where nothing happens, with no sex or tension, and is full of nothing but empty hallways and beaches where you click through line after line of equally empty dialog.
I always try to not immediately jump to assuming malicious intent, but there's enough competence on display here otherwise that there is really only one conclusion left - this game is being intentionally designed and produced in a way as to trickle out small, inconsequential updates at a steady pace. Basically, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's probably someone trying to game the system and milk things as much as possible.
Let me give you an example: at one point, the character Liam takes a shower. He wakes up, decides that's what he is going to do, and then does so. Afterwards, he dries himself off and gets dressed. That is the entirety of what happens in this scene. There is no other purpose to it, it's not a payoff for something that happened earlier, there's no action or anything of importance at all. It is literally just "he takes a shower." And yet, there are over 30 lines of dialog that describe the shower and his thoughts, featuring such gems as:
(There's some soap here.)
(It'll have to do.)
You grab the shower head and turn the water on.
(Ahhh, that's nice.)
On top of that, there are 15 unique renders showing off nothing but an empty hotel bathroom just for this scene. The camera moves around like a typical first person thing, and we are shown the toilet, the shower, the towels, and... wait, is that the shower head I've heard so much about!? OH BOY!
Now, it's OK to have some mundane stuff in a VN. Not every single scene or moment needs to be 100% full of plot, sex, setups/payoffs, and so on. Obviously, it depends on the story, but there's nothing inherently wrong with that. For this game, though, let's consider the context of that scene. Here is the description of the update it came from:
v0.1.9
Extension of Liams story
45 renders
...so 15 of those 45 renders were spent in an empty bathroom, accomplishing nothing. 1/3 of the entire update, and I can tell you that the other 2/3 weren't any better. That's not all, either, because this game has two different MCs with completely separate story lines. The update before this one was for the character Landon, and had 44 renders. So not only do you have these tiny and unimportant updates, but they're even more stretched out as the dev alternates between these two.
It
feels designed to be a constant drip feed of filler bullshit, there's no two ways about it. Everything else about this game is competent - the renders are good, the spelling and grammar is all fine, and the dev is detail oriented enough to ensure their Patreon is first and foremost on the main menu - it's just that the actual end product is hollow.
I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's all an honest mistake and the dev just didn't have enough time to revise the story in between rendering out yet another slightly different angle of the same exact elevator buttons in the same exact setup as the last 15 times they've done it.
