Ren'Py - Abandoned - What a Legend! [v0.6.02] [MagicNuts]

A really great start for a game marred by a couple of minor but persistent annoyances.

Pros:

Beautiful, original art

Interesting and original storylines

Well-written prose

Excellent use of animation basically everywhere from sprites to objects to backgrounds

I almost always skip transitions in Ren'Py games, but they were fine in this one.


Meh:

The time-of-day and navigation systems are a negative for me and I found them annoying rather than interesting, especially when you have to click through multiple screens to get to where you need to go. Still, it's far from the worst I've seen.


Cons:

You often have to click multiple times to advance to the next line of dialogue as the text box disappears rather than displaying the next line. It got pretty annoying for me, especially in a few scenes where it happened literally every line.

There are a lot of pop-ups for things like achievements and items acquired and you can't advance past them with the enter key or spacebar. You have to physically click. You have to click a ton to navigate the map anyway, but I'd rather not have to rest my hand on the mouse for the entire game or have to keep moving it back and forth constantly.

WaL always knows how to make me magicnut .

The art, story, world/lore, characters and their development - everything is just right <3 Not to mention the amazing H-scenes.

I simply never played an adult game that looked so professional. It seems everything is carefully crafted from the drawings, the animations. Also the writing is clever and funny and a welcome change from the otaku stories we often find here.

Too bad curvy pin-ups are the rule in this game... but they're still sexy as hell.

For starters I wanted to say this is the best game I ever played from F95.

Overall I am very happy with the game, seriously I just cannot wait for a new update. I would advise the author to publish big updates or else small ones will ruin the game and drive the players away.

SUPERB ART, is the first thing that catches your attention. The difference from the other games is the attention to detail: animations during the dialogues; live characters, care of the background that enriches the scenarios.

I think porn games are one of the medias with the most clichés and overdone stories, and male protagonist games tend to be the worst offenders at that as they also tend lack any semblance of verossimilitude, being a male power fantasy and all. What a Legend isn't any different in that regard to most other harem games since it plays both as straight to the genre and as a parody. The big difference is that it's also extremely well done!

To gloss over its pros (since its been well covered by other reviews), it's safe to say the main selling point of this game are:
1) it's superb art, complete with animated scenes, beautiful scenaries, colorfoul characters and pretty love interests.
2) It's amazing meta humor. Tongue in cheek, lots of references, smart and self-parodying, like a porn version of Wes Craven's Scream.

This is such a well done game that it can actually be considered a game, instead of merelly a porn game. In fact - and this is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 - this works more like a game that has porn than simply a porn game, which might seem weird and leads me to its cons.

-There's a lot of grind and clicks-per-action in this game, meaning you'll have to do a LOT of fetching quests, day cycles and overall clicking before you get to see most actions

-The sex scenes are beautiful but awfully short and undeveloped. IF you are like me and expects to have your imagination piqued with more erotic scenarios, build ups and descriptions, you'll be a little disappointed.
Most action goes like this: "I'm a handsome dude with big dick, let's fuck?" -I want to, but first you must do this fetch quest; "ok, I did fetch quest, let's fuck?" -OH YES I LOVE YOUR BIG COCK. Then you have a random loop of your usual porn commentary, and then you click once or twice on the' go slower or faster' button, then on the cum button then you both will cum together. Tadaa!
Now, If you just want to see your avatar's dick go vroom vroom on cartoon girls pussy then you'll be well served.

-There are no choice & consequences system that I know off. You are presented with dual choices a few times but they are meaningless. I get it that it works as a meta commentary and it's part of the humor, but it doesn't exempt from the fact that it's just a clickfest VN, if you were expecting something else. On a minor note, sometimes it also gets annoying getting out of inventories and menus, I wish a simple esc would take you to the playing screen.

-Parody or not, there's little in the sense of an actual story, and the humor, amazing as it is, can get too puerile and simple raunchy after a while, so if you are looking for an immersive experience all the parody will get in the way.

To sum it up, despite being an awesome game, I think WaL! spends a little too much time being witty and forgets that It's supposed to be a porn game, so if you are expecting some safe sex time you might find yourself just having a laughing time instead -which isn't necessarily bad!

That said, It's still a solid experience and can easily become a 5-star for me. Can't wait to see how it develops!

What can I really say about this game that hasn't already been said? Even in this early state, the game feels incredibly polished. Everything works how you'd expect it to, the dialogue is well written and virtually typo-free, the quest design is intuitive and fun, the artwork is hands down the best I've ever seen, and the music is just great. This is as close to a AAA gaming experience as you can find in porn games.

Great art, good balance of humor and sexiness. Well-animated scenes given the minimal staff. Looking forward to seeing how this game progresses over the next releases. Could use more sound, but that's always a difficult thing.

Amazing game! Unique and gorgeous art AND animations (!), beautiful characters, immersive magical medieval world and fitting soundtrack. AAA quality. Should have AAA budget to potentially decrease time between updates, though it may increase the risk of taking a toll in quality.

Either way, I hope MagicNuts keep up with the good work for a long time and carry it through - it's exciting to see the inner/outer maps and all planned content. I became a patron simply to express my gratitude and maybe help to encourage them to not give up anytime soon, as a good number of people have been doing and hopefully a lot more people will do.

I guess it is reinvigorating to see such a quality game and leave aside the same old refurbish 3d models in a house sandbox corruption story. There are other great games being made, but this one for me rightfully sits at the top.

Best adult game out there for me. First of all, the game is gorgeous. The world is rich, colourfull and well made (and seems like a big one too). Animations are great and girls are beatiful and sooo hot. With different body types and each one with her own personality...
The game runs very smooth. No big bugs, no grinding and funny dialogues.
The only con I can find is that it is a bit linear, as most of the time your choices doesn't make any impact. But, hey, that's a VN.

Best game I`ve downloaded, amazing graphics/art style, characters and story (Medieval setting) with funny moments and plenty of contect and side quests.
I can`t imagine what this game will be like when finished, and can`t wait either.

A genuinely funny romp.
So many adult games try to be serious, to the point of being tedious, this game isn't one of those. Many time during my play I laughed out loud whether it's the MC getting amourous attention from a ram while trying to sneak into the city, a wolf getting burnt and relieving the pain in the sea only to be eaten by a shark, or a love interest taking a herbal tea and seeing everything as a japanese anime.

The art is beautiful, it all appears to be hand drawn, no CG characters here and although funny, the story does pull you in, I've just completed Myrtles path and it had some real depth to it.

I'm looking forward to see how this game progresses from this team, just for the pure joy I've experienced playing so far.

The best of the best. Perfect set up with so much potential, it's easily my no. 1 game. It's the top in Harem and no NTR games, which are my preferred tags. Anyone into those should definitely give this a go.

Got wind of this gem, back when it was in version 0.3, and I can say, without any hint of doubt, this game, IS THE GAME

The story (so far) is cleverly done, not too convoluted to become a chore to read, not too light to be a "skip, skip, skip" kind of thing

The artwork is superb, brilliant, amazing... well adjectives fail to describe it, simply, the artwork is 2D, with a quality far superior of what you would expect, the backgrounds, transitions, animations... all is masterfully done

A lot of people have just one complaint, that the content is quite small, but remember, this game is in version 0.4, ZERO. DOT. FOUR., and it have this amazing amount of care and dedication invested in it, in my books, a unpolished gem in the making to become a dazzling, brilliant diamond of a game

But, don't take my words of praise as biased opinion, go, download the game and play it, and if after playing it, my words are false, then your game preferences are somewhere else

What a Legend really deserves the excellent rating. Beautiful and absolutely unique art combined with a lovely story telling in a fantasy setting, which is always entertaining and makes you anticipating the next update.
The dev / writers also got a hilarious sense of humor. Gameplaywise it's point & click, but the game features a good in-game help, so that you won't need a walkthrough. It's pretty straight forward, you hardly can miss scenes during your playthrough, which I appreciate a lot.
Least but not last all the women are really hot. I really hope I'll never see the abandoned tag on this gem of an adult vn and that people, who can, will support the dev by becoming a patreon. Updates might take quite long, but they are well worth it and offer several hours of amazing gameplay. The game absolutely deserves support!

It's not often you find a game with this much polish right out the gate. The potential is enormous, and the content already here is fantastic.

Everything in this game feels like it was well-considered, especially/including the artwork.
