What are you left wanting?

Like most of you, I have played a LOT of smut games. Over the years I have found quite a few games that I really enjoyed, and infinitely more that I did not enjoy at all. There were also quite a few that were almost really good but had one consistent glaring issue that made me not enjoy it.

I'm a game dev and I'm currently deciding how I want to subject y'all to my awful drawing that I'm working on. While I feel pretty confident in my ability to make a good game, NSFW games are kind of a whole different ball game.

I know I personally like a couple of things that you don't really get a lot of.

- Games that are actually good games, such as Bunny Black and even Tales of Androgyny
- Games that fulfill a kink or desire (for me, hardcore domination of some kind)
- Games that establish a personal connection of some sort with characters before you bang them

Bunny Black was so good I replayed it and ignored the porn. Tales of Androgyny has a really great game system and I really like the battle domination system, but there are uh, a lot of forced niche kinks.

Of course, not everyone is into having a game in their porn game. My only requirement personally is that you only need one hand to play it.

I'm also wondering what kind of content people want in their games. For instance, it seems like more people dislike NTR than like it. The safest thing would be to just make everything available and optional, but the work increases a ton and every type of content gets less, well, content than if it was more of a focus.

As for establishing a personal connection, be it a positive or negative one, I personally find this really important. It's what turns pixels into people in my mind. What is your take on this?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! And I apologize for the disaster I will create in the future.

It's all in the execution. Everyone has their own idea of what kinks, what type of gameplay, etc etc, but if your execution sucks, that won't save you even if that's my type of game or kink being featured.

Very true! For normal gamedev, new devs will always ask what makes a good idea, or if their idea is good or whatnot. My answer is always that the idea doesn't matter! The only thing that makes or breaks a game is the execution. Good execution makes an idea good, and bad execution makes an idea bad.

Aside from stuff like art quality, writing quality (editing and general storyline), it being overly grindy for no reason, what are some common execution mistakes you think games of this genre often make?

Let's just say I have way more demand for well-written corruption with decent gameplay than there is supply. And by corruption I mean the unwholesome stuff, not the usual "seduce your family" games.

Things can match up perfectly, theme, kinks, story, etc, but even one thing can throw it off.

I've played quite a few games where for example you are playing as an exhibitionist and then it turns into BDSM all of a sudden and you keep getting raped all the time. It's like, wtf!? I'm just whipping it out and now I've got 15 dildos and three lit candles inside of me as well as being bound up with cord.

You're playing as a little cutie who's all shy and stuff... and then you're scarfing down cocks as if they're 12 inch twinkies, one after another, with no shame in your game.

Or you're a pure and beautiful high school girl, then you get 15 million tattoos all over your body and insane nipple piercings.

There's a corruption game where you work hard on a girl and then in the next scene you're offering up YOUR girl to 3 other dudes who run a train on her just because, I mean... fuck. off.

So much can go "wrong" because tastes are so individual.

I don't mind gameplay in eroge as long as it isn't shit or tediously grindy. I like games such as and , if you can replicate those but also add erotic elements they'd be Godly.

An erotic business tycoon type of game where Gordon Gekko does a hostile takeover of Blue Star Airlines, laying Bud Fox's hot milf over the board room table as Japanese businessmen watch and take photographs... Stock Markets are the perfect scenario for an eroge, American Psycho laying some pipe.

I love choose-your-own-adventure stories too, VNs with lots of meaningful choices that really impact the way the story goes and plenty of arcs is what everyone wants, I guess for that you have to be a really smart writer as nobody really wants to slog through pages upon pages of text.

I like piss but that ain't popular so don't listen to me.
The piss also has to be the right colour and consistency, I've seen so much where it's like thick yellow slurpee syrup, also girls with constant smiles on their faces as they pee, where's the shame? :(

I want to watch a naughty girl pee, someone blushing and filled with excited shame.

And by corruption I mean the unwholesome stuff, not the usual "seduce your family" games.
Finding an absolute cinnamon roll of a character and (consensually) doing unspeakable things to them, only to have the tables turned when they want to share the 'love.' And when they have a moment of clarity that they could go back to the way things were, they realize that they absolutely love what's happened to themselves and wouldn't want it any other way, even if you paid them.

Eroge as a wider genre is stuck languishing between payment processors who police your fetishes in fictional settings and legal systems that'd rather you not exist at all.

Combine that with fans who often can't pay, or cop an attitude when you suggest they pay for porn and we get a situation where most ideas are under cooked, half-baked and ill-realized.

I really want games that are replayable and that feel immersive and deep enough that I can start acting as if the game world was real, and for that sort of gameplay I'm willing to make sacrifices in other places (even writing and graphics).

Non-porn examples of this are "story generator" games like Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Kenshi, etc. In those games, you're kind of just thrown into a world and told "good luck", and obviously you have to survive and whatnot, but aside from that it's totally up to you what direction you go in. There are some games that try to capture that feeling, but most that I've seen are just rote repetition of "sandbox" tropes made by other games. Strive for Power and Degrees of Lewdity are the two games that come closest.

Male PoV corruption stories that lean into the protagonist being a bad person. I'm not talking murderous psychopath, just, this is an obvious fuckboy stop writing like he's romantic and caring unless it's him faking it.

More male leads in positions of power in corruption games. Dad's, bosses, teachers, cops, politicians etc. I like the manipulation and pushing boundaries side of corruption games over the "rape/mind control/slavery" side of things. Not every protagonist needs to be a boy with a magic hypno-cock.

Trainer games in general.
