So in 2016, only a few 3D games existed & that were incest, i used to come to this in late 2016 and it was like a desert, anyways

Today, literally everyday a few games are being released, and there are tons of new
"developers"

What do you think of this? (personally, altho i like more games, but i think this is getting too much)

I might not be the best to answer here since I'm a "new developer", but I started lurking the forum sometime in 2017 and it was already filled with lots of games. I also know the "hype" for western VNs also started not so long ago around that time and it wont stop as long as people think they can make easy money with such games. I personally like that more games pop up, but I hate the reason for it, especially with some really bad games popping up.
Anyway, look at the bright side. More games means better games in the future ;)

I think it's just great! Thanks to the tools given to us like Daz, honey select, RPGM, ren'py etc, everyone and their dog is able to put their perverted imaginations in the form of a game that everyone can enjoy.
I guess the only negative thing I can think of is that some people are just doing it for the patreon cash and not for the fun of creating a good game.
Just to be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with making a good buck off your work, but it shows in the resulting product if there is only love for the money and not for the trade.

After the patreon purges the games quality went lower, good devs decided it's risky to continue making games they wanted to make because it's going to end the moment enough people report it.
Most patreon guideline following games are too similar to each other, they use 3dcg which limits their creative options so you get a lot of very similar images of models being posed in similar rooms fucking in similar situations and it's garbage. Then theres the "visual novels" that forego any notion of gameplay and you might as well ignore those.
While ok games come out, things could be way better. Some types of media is overproduced while other more valuable types aren't.

Problem isn't new devs, problem is old devs won't finish their games.

There are supergames out there like milfy city and summertime saga that are receiving thousand upon thousands of dollars and they keep delaying development to milk the cow, I remember checking the numbers and the actual team people etc... and they were making something around $50k A MONTH.
With that money not finishing a game or delivering a masterpiece in 2 years is just a fucking scam, and there should be some sort of Patreon rule/legislation to avoid these twats doing it.
Even if Patreon took half of that 25k is still A LOT of fucking money for a team of 6 to 10 guys, that's maybe $3k salary a month and people keep just fucking paying it...un-fucking-believable.

I think this is good in one aspect, more games for me to try.
But, on the other hand, too many games for me to try.
I currently have over 600 games in my 'to be played folder.'
I also have an idea for a game; I won't initially be doing it for money (I may start a Patreon or similar if people request it), so technically, that will make me a new developer too!
I used to support around 20 devs, that is now at a more reasonable 8-9.

There is indeed no such thing as too much games.

In the adult game scene there will always be niche genre to cover and those won't get filled anytime soon.

But while I like to trash bad games in private as much as the next guy, as developer we also need to take responsibility for our actions.

At one point you cannot tell someone they are not doing a good job if you don't tell them how to do it properly.
Even for those that like to learn, you cannot skip learning from other, learning by your own experience is necessary but not sufficient.

That is one of the reasons I created a Mastodon instance for us , that is my way of taking responsibility for my actions.

What's wrong in the possibility to have an ever growing range of choices?

It feels like every day is Christmas, in this site :D

Well, what might be bad for someone can be good for others. So I guess, as long as these new titles stay virus-free, there will always be a happy kid somewhere :)

Sturgeon's Law says "95% of everything is crap"(he was referring to science fiction writing at the time). But if you have 3000+ games and only 1 in 20 is really good, that's still...carry the two...over 150 quality games. I think in reality the main issue is a risk of duplication and sameness...you really have to change things up or else make the same thing only better somehow.

Personally my only issue with the current adult games is just that most people follow the same formula, they don't try to do something new but rather do the same (most of the times, I did find games that tried something else like xxxivilization and games like that, lilith throne, seeds of chaos... to say a few that try to do something special)

There are many concepts that could be explored but one tiny problem is that in adult games people expect everything to be optional. You know it kind of kills the feeling of storytelling when you have a dark game and you get something like "option 1: you get raped or whatever happens, option 2: you magically find a way to not get raped or whatever".

A bit sad but well, such is life.

No, there shouldn't be. Don't tell people what to do with their own money. If you don't like the pace of development of a certain game don't pay for it, problem solved. Do people throw money at scams and lazy devs who don't update for months? Yeah, but that's their choice and ultimately all those games actually crash and burn. Both the games you mentioned can in no way be considered actual scams though.

What do you think of this? (personally, altho i like more games, but i think this is getting too much)
I think many factors came into play during that time... Some of those were as follows:

First, you had the increase in popularity of folks using Patreon, and sites like it, for gaining their Donations... This was for several reasons, the foremost being that initially there were very few rules on Patreon with regards to Adult/Mature content, outside of historical reference and usage... You also had Patreon being used more and more by Gaming/Video Streamers, primarily because it was easy to use for gaining Subscription based Donations... And as I've mentioned before in other threads, Subscription based Donations are easily forgotten about by the donator... Streamers always prefer subscription based donations, because of that very fact... Many of the bigger streamers have even talked about how they prefer sub over one time payment donations, because it's a steadier stream of income due to the forgetfulness and laziness of fans who sign up for a sub... Even if someone eventually remembers and un-subs, the money still came in for the those few months where the fan forgot they were subbed... The lack of policing and rules made it easier for developers of these and other products to use Patreon to fund their projects or at the least to get money while having fun with their hobby... Of course, we know that has changed in recent times, mostly because Patreon and it's ilk, finally caught on to what was happening....

Secondly, the ease of using sites like Patreon, and the promise of easy money through subscription donations was like a mecca for bringing in new erotic/porn VN/Game developers, some of which were either looking for an easy buck, and some who looked at this new way of supplementing their development hobby... We had some bad products and some good products, but it was still a small industry... But, there were a few developers that were making bank on their projects, some of which had Incest as a theme... So you started to see people get the idea that by using Incest, just like the big hitters did, they might ride on the coat tails of those few success' and make some money as well... That is when you begin to see the market getting flooded with new developers, some legit and some just out to make money, using Incest as their driving factor... This in turn floods the market with a lot of poorly crafted VN/Game starters... Many of which eventually get abandoned, or the developers decide to start over in order to placate the complaining fans, in hopes of keeping them onboard with the promise of a rebuild and/or better sequel...

Thirdly, you see some tropes and fetishes becoming overused, mostly because other developers want to jump on what they perceive as easy money makers... Which in turn over saturates the market with those tropes and fetishes, artificially inflating what folks perceive as popular... So you begin to see the more creative stuff either fall through the cracks in a sea of repetition, or you begin to see developers pandering to the paying few in order to increase the flow of cash, but in turn compromising their original vision. just to make themselves more money or to look more appealing to their paying fans...

Now do not get me wrong, there are plenty of New and Old developers who are just interesting in the creative process and don't care as much about the money side... Some do well, and some do very poorly... Being a primarily amateur developer market, that is the nature of the beast... But I really do think that money is the main driver for why we saw (and still see) such a high rise in new developers back in 2016 or so, and it's still a primary driver today... Even with Patreon, and other sites, adding new rules and increasing their policing methods... Making it harder for developers to include what they perceive as the money making tropes/fetishes... Some try to cheat and hide it, while some move on to other donations sites, while others adapt and willingly stay compliant, while many others dry up and disappear without their cash cow to sustain them...

For some folks, money helps, while for others, it is the primary or only reason they began developing... And money has a tendency to corrupt (with varying levels of success)... It happens no matter the business or industry... A few folks make it big, and suddenly you get a huge influx of folks wanting to be just like them and break bank... With a large few, who will do what ever it takes to ensure the money flow gets bigger and never stops... Either through creating a fanatical (almost cult like) fan base, or by pandering to certain money making concepts/tropes/fetishes they believe will keep the money flowing... Some milk their fans over a lengthy development cycle, while others flat out cheat and lie in hopes the paying fans will keep the faith and keep dishing out their money...

In any case, there are several factors that played into it... In some cases, it helped the industry grow, and in many others it's corrupted/diluted the industry...
