What does the "Swinging" tag mean?

I see this tag used quite often, but it seems very rarely that it applies to games where a committed couple swap partners, which is what I always thought 'swinging' meant. I have seen it oftentime slapped onto NTR games (swinging =/= cuckolding), or female protag games (swinging =/= cheating or 'hotwifing'), sometimes even on harem games (swinging... I guess could be threesomes?). Is it swinging if only one part of the couple, be it the man or woman, is sleeping with other people?

This thread isn't to debate what is and isn't swinging BTW. I just wanted to get a sense of what the heck it means in the context of the tags on here.

I see what you mean. I do like swinging games but yea i did noticed that if it had a "swinging" tag it was mostly a Netorase game (wife sharing). So it usually the main female having the fun while the male watches. I don't quite agree with this, Half of it, yes. Both partners I think should be engaged in sex with others, usually another couple.
If the wife or husband is the only one engaged in sex, in this scenario, I would would consider that hotwife/hothusband. However, we don't have a tag for hotwife. So I suppose this is as close as you can get with what tags we have at the moment.

This is down to the general attitude of people on the site. For a huge chunk of people on f95 there is no gap between absolutely loyal LI and NTR. If the LI is breathed on by any other male character people crap their pants and scream NTR. In one thread earlier today someone even called Johnny Sins a cuck because his wife is a porn star. They have no understanding of open relationships or swinging other than to scream "CUCK" and rant about NTR.

Yes, your reply nails my thoughts 100%. In my head (and I know it's a bit subjective), the difference between hotwives and swingers is that hotwife means only the woman is 'engaged' with the third party, while swingers the husband is getting his with someone alongside the wife/third party.

Having the tag won't stop people complaining, believe me. When we made our game, we put in BOLD letters that the MC and his wife would have sex with others. We also added the NTR tag, even though we didn't add NTR until around the 3rd Chapter of the game. Still we got a ton of complaints. The Mods actually removed like 3 pages from our thread due to it. Just realize going in, that people are going to bitch. And let it roll off your back.

If your game doesn't have NTR, don't tag it as such. Swinging is not NTR and if people perceive it as such, that's their problem, not yours. You have to remember that there are two different NTR brigades and tagging something that isn't NTR as such will likely bring as much hate as not tagging something that is.

it's a cover all tag which includes netorase since the ntr tag (now renamed netorare) was only for netorare. with the coming tag revamp, swinging and netorase will have different tags (i think, been awhile since i checked the list)

yeah but it's getting closer and closer. it's only been not even a year since the tag revamp thread was added in announcements and there is a lot of other stuff that uses up the limited time available to work on the tag revamp. like recently with the malware scare.
