Thought you knowledgeable group of people might have some idea about the trends. I feel like one of the largest things about tentacle hentai is that it speaks to some very specific niches. It was already so extreme that it would tend to also include stomach inflation, pregnancy (of a sort), massive loads, rape, etc... all without the need for a male to be onscreen.

I agree with what you said, tentacle is a niche and the early days of internet porn and hentai was where tentacle was at its most popular.
It should still have a place in modern videogames and animations, but not as the main attraction in my opinion because I am not really that much into it but it can be fun.
