I've got a story/game I plan to write which I want to involve a highschool into it. (but not focused on it)
The students at this highschool would all be disruptive, but non-violent delinquents.
The ages of the students in this highschool could be higher than the average age of a highschool student (14yo to 18yo) due to delinquent stuff like being held back several years.

However after thinking more about it, the age range part is mostly due to what I myself am comfortable with. The age of consent of 18+ having been hammered into my head all my life has me very biased in this, even when I know that the age of consent in western cultures is actually most commonly 15 and 16, even in the united states. Where 18+ is more of a playing-it-safe number, without knowing precisely where the setting is, but knowing its a western setting.

So thought it would be worth asking, what ages would you be comfortable with in such a highschool?
And while I'm at it, what grades are more common in a highschool for you, or if you'd prefer, which grades at a highschool would you think would be better?

(Poll works best if you pick 1 age option and 1 grade option)

Well, in my experience, despite all restraints ppl engage various romantic activities very early, like 12-14.
So, if you want realism, make an early as you can. Otherwise fantasy 18+/- is ok option.

Age of consent in my country is 16, but 18 is an actual age when a person is considered 100% adult. So i'm comfortable with 18+ while 17 for me is a gray area.
But regarding fictional content, who the fuck cares, unless u live in UK or something.

Age of consent has nothing to do with age to create pornographic content which is still 18 in the entire US and most countries around the world.

If you create pornographic content involving characters explicitly under 18 it will most likely be removed from patreon and possibly even here.

So always say they are 18+ even if they aren't. Stick to "unnoficial" uncensor patches if you want to change their ages and relationships.

I think consent only applies to real people, computer drawings have no rights and are not human.
... and that is why fictional are characters treated on patreon and co ..... right... like real people.
i'd go with 16+ (age of consent) ....that isn't that deep in the pedo-realm and if needed defendeble.
I myself just don't get the appeal of underage-stuff....

You asked. If you want realistic answers:

United States high schools in many areas start at grade 9, or ages 13-14 and complete after grade 12, ages 17-18. While yes, there are students who are accelerated a grade (or maybe even two or more) - it is rare and becoming extremely more rare as time goes on because education systems are supposed to take in the whole maturity of the person, not just their intellectual but emotional and social, as well. There are students that are also held back a grade (or maybe more) - this is also rare but may apply to students with behavior or learning issues. It may also be decided that an immigrant or refugee be started at a grade considered younger than their age group so that they can be more affiliated with similar knowledge base. There are also non-traditional structured (or 'alternative') school environments where high school classes and equivalency courses can go into the early 20s for age.

As for your questions and statements on consent: there is a lot of gray area in the United States - depending upon which state you are discussing. Unrestricted (by age) consent can be possible from 16 to 21 by state. Some states have restrictions when at least one person in the relationship is a minor - usually the two people can't be more than a couple years apart in ages.

Also, since you talk about making the MC a teacher, there are states which restrict the area of possible consent since a teacher is considered a person of authority in a youth's life. States have laws that any student in a school environment - no matter what their age - is unable to give informed consent if the person they are engaging in sex with is a teacher, staff member, or administrator -- especially if that person has direct contact with or accountability for the student. The teacher could lose their job, their teaching credentials, be convicted, and placed on a registry for life.

Finally, if you are looking to solicit financial support using Patreon or any platform that uses PayPal or Square, etc - your best best is to make the setting college with ages of 18+ to be in adherence with at least that portion of their Terms of Use/Community Guidelines for creators, sellers, etc.

Also, depending upon the laws of where you live, even if the age of possible sexual consent is 14, 15, 16, whatever - it may be a legal issue in the creation of sexual content that has words and/or imagery of characters who are stated as under age 18. Yes, they are fictional and yes the imagery wouldn't be 'real' - but that doesn't stop law enforcement agencies from knocking on doors, seizing equipment, or pressing charges if the statutes are written in a way that gives them that authority. And if you don't have money for bail and/or private attorney, even if found not guilty - even in the United States - you could find yourself in jail for months (or longer) awaiting the dismissal of your case.

Age per se is not important.

The writing is.

making the character feel/act sexy.

Right, yeah I get that, and I’m not concerned legality of they story characters, but what people are generally comfortable with.

Like for me personally 14yo look too much like children, like they just haven’t gone through enough puberty yet for my fantasy comfort, but at 16 they look like teens who are well into puberty

Because of the typical age that most kids start school, they are almost never 18 until after the final year of high school. So unless they were held back at least 1 or 2 years it never makes sense for the setting to be high school IMO. It should be college instead, unless you want to ignore the markets where the age of consent is 18 or higher, which is most western countries.

I can't think of anyone I went to high school with my senior year who was older than 17. I was still 17 when I started my first year of college.

And then you've got devs working in Daz (usually the ones making daddy-daughter incest games, though there are probably some teacher-student ones like this too) using models where the body looks well into puberty but the face looks like an 8yo.
