What to create

Hey everyone,

We're a 3d artist, programmer and a writer that plan on creating a game and we were wondering on what is mostly on trend and has a larger audience, like the type of game, it's world and environment ranging from realistic to fantasy, and of course the fetishes.

I would really appreciate some tips on this since we will be spending a lot of time on this project and creating something without an audience would be very uninspiring

Looking at what games popular here is a good start. What games get a lot of interest and stuff. The best inspiration is to just play games and "copy" what you like from them, and do a new spin on the things you think could be improved.

World and settings I can't really help you, it's an issue I've had myself a quite bit, so many options, all of them enticing and interesting in their own right from a development and gameplay perspective. Your first goal should be to fit the setting to the gameplay however. That should always be the king. Plot, characters, setting. All of it should service the gameplay and not the other way around.

As for fetishes, either go fairly standard and non-offensive. It might not make waves, but it at least ensures most people will be able to play it without getting something they don't want to see or experience. The other alternative is to deep dive into one or two specific ones(NTR, incest, slavery, transformation, furries or whatever else floats your boat to use a few examples). YOu might put a lot of people off, but

MC goes to college. Dad dies. He has to come back home. Cute younger sister hugs you. 'Wow, she's grown so much!' Touch her ass? Y/N. Goth older sister with arms crossed. "You better stay out of my way twerp!" Mom hugs you. 'Oh shit, her boobs are so soft." Going inside. Look at mom's ass? Y/N.

Lets take a shower. Oh, someone is inside. Peek? Y/N. 'Damn, older sis is a bitch, but she has a sexy body!' Keep looking? Y/N. Pick yes. Game Over.

At night. Sneak into mom's room. Remove covers? Y/N. Remove bra? Y/N. Jerk off? Y/N. Game over bitch!

Make sure it's a sandbox so we can enjoy walking around the house to our heart's content.

Setting your mc to be either boy or girl living with their family is popular. Girls usually virgins with high prude stats, and around 12 of age, boys a bit older and no regard for rule of law or societal norms. Having "18" y olds for patreon is an unfortunate trend, they're made retarded to compensate. f95 happily allows underage characters and people who mentally can't consent to have sex.

Gameplay where you explore areas, play minigames where you gain money or stats, do quests to open scenes are pretty mandatory or you're a visual novel. Combat in games is moving away from mindless grind to more difficult encounters that are sporadic or have plot relevance. Repetitive clicking action is normal in russian games but hated generally.

Stairway to heaven has you progressively increase the intensity of sex scenes. Girl starts off showing her body, handjob, bj, sex, anal, group sex, dog sex, dead sex, even rape. It's a popular formula for sure.

Agency is important at everything player does or sees, having a scene where you have no say in getting to it, or altering it has low value. It's better to have a goal, choices, and variation depending on how you progressed the game. Sometimes just different dialogue and facial expressions is enough.
Having well written characters to interact repeatedly over time adds value to the relationships as opposed to having numerous partners that are entirely irrelevant to the player and plot.

Writing and pacing are important in that some people don't want to read story that is there without a reason. If in doubt make sure each paragraph is relevant to the players motivations, sex, characters. Women have different priorities than men with the writing.

Setting with low effort games tends to be some modern american city because those kinda daz models are available easily. 2d games have easier time take place in medieval or 19th century EU since it's easier to accept people acting differently and you just draw the art and use readily available rpgm assets.

Thanks a lot for the info everyone, one more question I'd like to ask is how long does a first version need to be? and should we include sex scenes in the first version as well?

Pretty long IMO. It depends a lot of what type of game it is obviously. A short game is pretty forgettable and will leave a bit of a bad taste in your mouth. Not to mention a longer first release shows you that the developer can actually make progress and isn't just fishing for easy patreon money. Sex scenes are an absolute must. It's a porn game after all. It would be a bit like releasing an early access shooter without guns or enemies. If it's something like a VN I would say have at least a few routes with a couple of sex-scenes each.
I also hate it when games have a lot of features/locations/characters that don't do anything yet. You get all excited only to realize it's something that isn't implemented and might not be for months.

There's a wide variety of popular games. School setting is the most common one, since all the first games where in the school setting and DAZ assets for schools where widely available compared to most other settings. It's a somewhat save bet. Same goes for an incest story (with story about daughters being an upcoming trend).

Nevertheless a lot of the new successful games are all over the place from medieval/fantasy to sci-fi/futuristic, school setting to CEO setting.

I don't think the setting will matter much it's more the quality of the game. An high quality game will (almost) always get an audience.

It should be a tad obvious that you need to have a decent amount of content on your first version. A good first impression will draw in more people after all. Making a game that takes 20 minutes to beat and give people blue balls isn't what I consider a success.

The key to success is either take something generic and be the best one at doing it or find your niche and satisfy it. It's your choice on that. I tend to recommend the niche one thought, just have a niche big enough.

For the rest? you can take inspiration or whatever of other games, just don't add things cause you can and have a clear start about what you wanna do, if there is something bad is to have to remake the game multiple times cause you have been adding stuff that didn't think about and you messed up with the code.
