it doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles, just enough to run the games

A laptop would work, but not ideal when you're moving around
A tablet would be more mobile and easier to pack away

I ran Renpy games on my Raspberry Pi 4, which costs like 60ish €, that was 3 years ago.
What a mean to say is: every potato device should be able to handle renpy games and you should not base your buying decision on that and worry about renpy.
Unreal and Unity games? The sky is the limit, it depends on the game and how it is optimized.

This while a tablet would probably have a RAM amount too low for most Unreal games and a lot of Unity ones. Especially if he think about adult games, that are rarely optimized. The screen resolution can possibly also be an issue for those games, that are rarely designed for less than 1920x1080.
