Many haters are just people who don't see appeal of this fetish and that's it. There's no need for serious explanations. People avoid fetishes they don't like or understand. It would've been same with NTR but as it goes it is one of the most popular genres in Japan thus it gets much more attention. I mean because it's not that simple.. theres porn with getting your dick cut off etc how's that not worse than getting your girl stolen? Also yes apparently getting your girl stolen in game is bad... Which I would understand if there was a development to it. Like you start the game, do whatever for some hours, be cute, get the girl, and then suddenly you start noticing the weird stuff and then oh no she's getting gangbanged in an alley and she loves it! But most games just start up with a relationship I don't care about and shit happens.

I'm supposed to care about the cheating of fake people I didn't even have the chance to be attached to? That part I can't quite understand.

Imagine one of those... romance animes where they take 3 seasons to hold hands. Then imagine that after all that cuteness one of them cheats on the other super hard and doesn't care. Now... that would absolutely be awful, but only because you get to see the cute part before the NTR. THAT I can understand.
