Why are HS2 games so rare?

I consider HS2 to pretty much be the superior rendering engine for AVN's yet there are barely any games based on it

There are still some VNs made with HS2 out there, but surely less than made with HS1 4 years ago.

I personally see at least two reasons for that development:
*AI has replaced Honey Select as tool for those who just want to throw out content quite quickly.
*Steam doesn't allow Honey Select-Games on their platform and this can be a big source of income, once one has made a 1.0 of a game.

In general working with HS2 is always a grey area, as the company behind HS2 (which doesn't exist anymore today) did never allow to use HS2-Images for commercial purposes. But they also never sued anybody.

It's just crazy to me that HS1 games are still being made and updated nowadays but HS2 is just a black hole

I think the problem is getting the faces right in a more realistic look is more of a pain then just using something like koikatsu which is more anime looking.
I have like thousands of cards in my collection and the amount that has unique and intresting faces is miniscule.
And if the face is wrong, the whole character becomes wrong.

Just fucking look at Eternum and tell me it's not one of the best looking games out there
it looks incredibly dated. I can't understand how it's not obvious to you. have you not seen rendering in the last two decades??

and I'm not saying games must have high quality graphics, in fact one of my most common arguments is graphics don't matter much. but lets not get delusional here, HS2 is easily two decades behind modern rendering. that's why it isn't used.
