Blue bar is your level xp progress. Just a visual for players.

The fire icons are a special attack buildup. Use normal attacks to build them up and once you have enough you can use them with a heavy attack. It doesn't require all of them to be full, but most of them I think. Not really effective from when I've tested it. Sometimes it doesn't hit anything.


I had this issue and tried a lot of things to fix it. The only thing that seems to have fixed it is I carry a second bow in my inventory for when the one I'm using breaks. Inventory is read from top to bottom, left to right much like reading a book. I keep the bow in on the right side (after) my arrow stacks and I don't have the issue anymore.
If that doesn't work or if you don't use a spare bow you can always drop your arrows and cheat yourself in a new stack. I think that works too. But for me the issue always centered around the second bow I carried when it was placed in front of my arrow stacks.
Thanks. I'll try those. Not sure if this causes the bug but crafted my arrows with the ingot, etc. in the "loot" window of the bench instead of in the inventory window, which my usual method. Anyway, thanks again.

EDIT: After crafting a back-up bow and placing it in inventory, I tried the hot bar bow. It worked fine until I pressed "SORT" for the inventory and then it quit working. So, tried your bow-to-the-right of arrows and it worked like a charm! Thanks! :giggle:

Where do I need to point the updater .exe inside the Wicked Island install? I tried pointing it at the WI.exe, that didnt work.
Point the Update to the Wicked Island folder. You are patching the entire Wicked Island game, not just the .exe. Some perspective, when a game is updated, are multiple files update or just the exe and thats it?

Error. Before the 08 uodate runns fine in Bottels . But not anymore.

Not sure why you are getting this errors but check the 2 dependencies in the SteamDepot Folder, in SharedDepots.

DirectX and vcresdist. In this case you are having issues with c++, this points to vcredist.

Edit: In fact just go here and download. Run " install_all.bat " as ADMINISTRATOR

This will resolve all future c++ issues you will ever have.

Is it me, or do the arsecheeks look strangely flat on the side, like a dent?

Is this the same build as the steam version? Is there any point in buying the steam version game content wise?

When I run the updater and point it at the Wicked Island install directory, all I see if "Unable to find applicaiton in chosen directory!". I have tried pointing it at different levels within that directory, but nothing seems to take. I downloaded the Wicked Island CSF 20424231 (16 OCT 25) version of the game from the front page and the updater.

The only thing that gets installed is a save directory. Your target is the folder you downloaded.

Anyone losing bow and arrow functionality (no arrow flies and no reduction in arrows)? I searched the thread but couldn't find a solution.
You might have noticed this by now, but archery is kind of unfinished in that once you run out of stamina, you'll still keep doing the aim and release animations, but no arrow will be released. You need 10 stamina to attack with the bow and even if you don't have that, it'll still do the animations.

The game doesn't really have a story other than: The ship you were sailing on founders and crashes at sea. Your character washes up on the shores of a strange island, as the sole survivor of said wreck.

Explore and survive are pretty much your only goals.

When you start the game, there should be an NPC out at the end of a small pier, near the starting area where your character appears. When you talk to them, they will start you on a series of Tutorial Quests that introduces you to collecting materials, building crafting stations, and making tools/weapons for harvesting more materials or fighting monsters.

When you complete the tutorial stuff with the Fisherman, you are pretty much on your own. The game is a wide open world, for you to explore, exploit, and occasionally, have naughty encounters.

If you want a suggestion: Pick a place, any place you want and then start building a home.

Copper can be found in the forested areas on the north end of the island (the area where you start at).
Iron can be found on the southern end of the island, it looks like grey and black rocks clustered around tall stone pillars (usually guarded by wolves)
Coal can be found all around the island, usually where there is a stone pillar/stone pile, it looks like pure black rocks clustered around stone pillars as well.
In the middle of the island there is a town where you can talk to a few NPCs and purchase things from some of them (if you have any money).

Prepare to get your character's ass whupped. A lot. Your character sucks and most of the gear that you can get your hands on easily, really sucks. So, if you get into fights with the local wildlife prepare for some fairly unbalanced combat.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask folks here questions about how to do things or where to find things.

It is a known issue with the Steam version, it is happening to pretty much everyone. We just have to hope an update that fixes that drops sometime in the near future.
So, something in the Steam version borks the textures...

Guess the Itch.io version is the one to look out for right now.

Edit: Where did the Deep/Dark Iron go? The usual caves only have normal Iron...

Deep Iron ore is only found in Hollow Tunnels now. Hollow Tunnels and Grave of False Kinds has switched places. Not sure why, but everything is the same within them otherwise.

Also, the invisible Trolls and Ogres isn't exactly new, but it does seem worse than before. I think 8.6.1 didn't have the issue, but a build or two before it did. Still, nothing else has ever had that issue that I remember. Maybe it will get fixed on next release who knows. At least you can still see their eyes and their weapons and the health bar above their heads.

Its really hard to tell what the dev is prioritizing until he releases a new build. I'm still butthurt about being stuck with level 1 parrying skill forever. I try not to be, but I see the jump animation was changed. I didn't know there was a problem with the old one. Yet it got prioritized '\(oo)/'

Also it seems that it's systematic in combat if you're in a maze or tunnel one can get pushed literally through the walls which is weird and dumb... (although in case of maze it saved me from being beaten as the Minos didn't push through).

I have to suspect that this is some kind of side effect from them trying to address the problem of Monster spawning (wild monster or servants really) into solid material and getting stuck. Just a guess given the timing that this cropped up.

ETA: if I am not confused, Hollow Tunnels was at the dungeon closest to Game Start Spawn, right? (can never keep the Dungeon names straight). I believe that was changed as the Dev realised having that Dungeon right near starting off players is a recipe for death... Which I think is sensible, as that is one hella difficult dungeon (not a complaint mind you) so not best thing for newbie starters to stumble into.

I think Formasual answered most of your questions already. When I speak about 'the Steam Version', I am just referring to the build number, not a particular site or location that I got it from.

As the others mentioned, there is only 1 place in the entire map that you can find dark iron ore, now, and that is in the dungeon, The Hollow Tunnels'.
That dungeon is on the far southern end of the map, placed on the side of a cliff, near the water's edge, on the opposite side of the map from the Ogre/Troll Base. If you are having problems finding it, I can post a screenshot of the map area where it is located.

Yes, the Hollow Tunnels was the closest dungeon to the game start area.
Personally, I really doubt that the dev moved the dungeon because it was 'such a dangerous dungeon for newbies to encounter'. Especially since the character is spawning into the game right next to the hardest zones in the game, The Desert, with no warnings or gating at all.

I love the spirit of this game, and played an hour of it last night... holy jank. Idk if I'm going to spend anymore time trying this, but I can appreciate the vision and hope the developer gets enough funds to make a team and refine this into something great.
