Winter Life in the Countryside is a sequel to Summer Life developed by Dieselmine, continuing the seasonal romance of a young couple in the same pleasant little village. This time, they find new ways to pass the time and enjoy the new year festivities. The sequel retains almost every gameplay mechanic from its predecessor but introduces a bit more content, considering the time constraints and upcoming events during the time allowed. Other than that, the game remains largely the same, though it undeniably improves on the original formula. The developers recognized that the pixel animations were the standout feature and added more scenes that focus on them. A major improvement is the completely uncensored version of the game, allowing players to fully enjoy each scene without rolling their eyes at ridiculous japanese restrictions. If you liked Summer Life, you’ll enjoy Winter Life even more because it is pretty much more of the same. After finishing the game, you can restart using your complete save file, which unlocks extra content and gives you options to fully unlock the gallery. Winter Life certainly deserves a higher rating than its predecessor, though the lingering sense of wasted potential still hangs over the series. Perhaps Spring Life in the Countryside will finally be a masterpiece.
