Would you play a hentai game whose main focus is not hentai?

I have had a game idea for quite a while now, quite big scale so it is not something I plan to adventure myself to anytime soon but I will, eventually.

The only problem is that this idea of mine doesn't focus on hentai, granted that I would still sneak in hentai scenes on the first release, there would be a lot of gameplay outside that (Classic RPG, nothing too special).

Would you play a game like that as far as it is not grindy or do you personally prefer a lot of hentai and/or a story that focuses on hentai in general?

I'm sure you've heard of or played Ariadne before. That's like the pinnacle of what kind of game you're describing. Lots of gameplay but the h-scenes are incidental and not the main focus.

I've played HuniePop and enjoyed gameplay and humor as much as I did the hentai part - maybe even more. Does that count?

Sort of.
It is just that some people do not like lengthy gameplay, in theory, but if hentai would be accessible as a side thing, would that still apply? That's my doubt, I think.

I wouldn't play a RPG (I assume you mean a JRPG in RPGM?) focused on hentai. Story and gameplay first. Unless it stands out in these two departments, I wouldn't even check it in most likelihood.

One of the best games I've played in my life (storywise) was a game with 1 (one) H-Scene for each character. It had several different routes and focused on the story. It even made me cry at some point and that's extremely rare for me.
Nonetheless this is not a game I would usually play and I actually downloaded it by mistake.
I mean, if I want to play an adult game, I want to see adult stuff, right? Well, if you're going to make something like skyrim with adult stuff (without the need of twentyquadzillion mods), I'm in, but I guess that's not going to happen^^

I would say yes. Using Ariadne as an example again, it is one of the best selling RPGM games on DLsite of all time. As for westerners, there's a huge-ass thread on ULMF dedicated to Ariadne as well as here on f95zone and many people have enjoyed the game and said good things about it. So as long as the game is good in general, it will be popular wherever.

I love "the last sovereign", all sex scenes are text only but its an amazing game, im taking it as a heavy inspiration for a personal project im currently working on.

The main problem with such games is that they are pretty bad fap material. On the other hand, the presence of the hentai also don't make them suitable for public consumption.

The other problem is that in the non-porn market, the competition is huge. Unfortunately (?) most indie games fall short on several levels (such as gameplay, graphics etc) compared to AAA games.

One of the few not-Hentai games that I enjoyed playing is The Last Sovereign, where the sexy stuff is text only. The story is great and the combat is maybe not great but still enjoyable.

I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm personally pretty much fed up of all those games with standard renders, shallow stories and almost no gameplay at all. Sure, there are h games which are meant to replace porn (the vast majority) but I'd to see more h games which can actually replace games.
