Would you rather have Chara/story development in a game or full content?

If it's male MC and the dev is capable of decent story, then the story is more important for me.
If it's female MC, I don't care about the story too much, just give me the lewds.

If you are going to have major development, growth or change on the MC during the story, it needs to be very clear from the start. Not within the actual story, but at least in the dev notes about it. A weak pathetic MC is not appealing to many players.
Different MC for different types of games and the MC has to fit in his own story and be as interesting as the story he evolve in.

A weak pathetic MC isn't really appealing, I can agree on that unless the game is NTR or humiliation which in those cases would make sense.

Sometime, the MC can make all this difference in a story and is the first chars that need a good writing, unless you don't want to bother and the player is the MC and make all decisions for him

In my case I think the intro will be sufficient to paint a clear image of the MC^^

And here I thought that this thread was about asking what people would think of Chara (from Undertale) having their own game.

I guess, I like the trans lizard, forgot her name, from the Amorous game. She has a sad backstory, and in the game you act as a person that would help her mentally to come to terms with her personality and "transness", which is really romantic and wholesome, and the sex scene at the end is just icing on the cake. In the Sissy Maker Deluxe game there was this witch girl that would summon lewd demons, that was pretty interesting and alluring to come visit her and fish for more rituals.

The important thing to note, is that the story always comes first, and the characters kinda develop from that. You don't wanna think of awesome characters and just build a story around them because that would feel very forced and unnatural. The characters are in a way representations of different opinions, worldviews and in the case of adult games, fetishes. I would suggest that you start with the premise (a short summary), then the plot itself (intro, 3 acts, ending) and from that you'll get much better characters.
True the characters are inserted in the story, not the other way around because the universe needs to be built first, but an awesome story needs it's awesome chars! xD

The chars should build themselves as I make them interact with the universe, so I should write who they are and let them make their choices.

The story is what I always think first and is my strong point, I should organise myself to, I have to many ideas^^

I personally think both can work as characters and plot go hand in hand. One needs definitely an idea, where one wants to go. But this corresponds with the"wants" and "needs" of the characters, as the story develops through them. But this may also depend on, if the story is more plot- or character driven.
When one e.g. looks at the subplots of "the Headmaster" those revolve all around changing certain "negative" characteristics of the girls to something positive and getting their gratitude *cough* for this. To write such substories, one does surely rather initially think about the "negative" characteristics which should be changed and only then thinks about under which circumstances the headmaster learns about the characteristics and what events need to happen til the headmaster is able to cure the poor girls from their suffering *cough*.
And I find especially this VN very well done regarding story telling.
I see in my case the story in an adventure type, the story unfold as the player explore the universe meet peoples etc.

Hum, the development of the chars though different states, in my case the would be a char that would be wary of the MC and he would have to develop this issue or any enemy that could become a friend, or simply the chars having an initial opinion of the MC that will evolve as the game progresses.

I already made some chars with their own personalities, but I should also note what they think about MC initially, I didn't though about writing it down for clarity.

As an adventure, the chars won't be trained as in "the headmaster" (which I also played^^), but with an affinity system, request from them, events, sidequest with them is your party, etc.

The degree development of the chars then depends on the type of game which in my case should be a lot.

In a adult game would rather have well written story with development of all character including mc, even it means less content porn/hentai wise at the start and updates with a lot of story (a bit like watching in anime/show or playing an eroge like kamidori), or the content is more important even if there is no feelings developed as long as the quality is good.
Both can be good, but let's say that there is a game, this game will be awesome but you have to choose one of the above, what type will it be? And why?

Feel free to come by and share your opinion,

Ps: Sorry if my English is approximate.
100% the former. These kind of games are all about the immersion and the porn comes after great build-up. The sex doesn't come as a reward for being patient after so many clicks/mini-games, but as part of the plot.
Albeit I guess I'd say that because I'm not a teenager anymore and if I want to see just sex scenes, I can hit porn websites.

I'm of the opinion that the best porn stories are the ones that are intrinsically sexual. The porn and the story are one and the same. In that way developing the story is developing the porn as well. Any and all content is sexual in nature, at a subtext level at least.

Of course there are great games that don't fall under that category. But I belive it must be substantially harder to strike the fine balance between a fleshed out story and sexual content when they're not very closely tied together. You can write the best family drama or action thriller, but if it's at the cost of diminishing or stalling too much the pornographic value I will probably lose interest sooner than later. I must say though, that the reverse is also true. Give me mindless porn and I will not even try it.

I suppose that doesn't really answer much, tbh. Just do whatever you feel more inclined to, you'll do it better and with more enthusiasm and those who like the same will be drawn to it, probably.

Not as a reward but as a part of the plot, this is what I'm trying to achieve. To be more precise, a simple story in a complex universe (with a lot of lore but only if you what to read about it) to start slowly for the player to be able to enjoy the discovery of the game and develop more and more as the story goes (a journey with mysteries and lots of unknown), sex is a part of the story and mechanics of the game, a too intense/dark story would probably be amiss here so I went for the adventure which can be a bit of everything with a lot of substories/chapters/arcs.

Only the sex scenes is exactly what bother me in some games because there is no attachment to the characters and feel pretty boring at some point, this is what I'm trying to break even if it's a lot of work, ex: Non boring pregnancy mechanics with only unique children for each chars, probably 3, and give them their own personalities and development and the possibility to age and interact with them as they will fit in the story later on (merchants, hunters, etc.).

I want every chars to be the favorite for someone, no bland ones.

The story will be chill and slowy become intersting as it goes, I hope it will work^^

The balance is exaclty what I am worried about, if I go all out on the story, the sexual part of the game would probably lose meaning but, if the story is just boring then it wouldn't work either.

I'm trying to fit a simple story in a complex universe, to be able to work on it as it goes with the ending already in mind.
It's like writting a epic/complex story with interesting chars mixed with a breeding game and small gameplay dungeon crawling.

The balance here is key, but a bit hard to find^^

A good story/character is a force multiplier to well executed porn scene.

Gonzo porn exists and is commercially viable, but the lack of story in real porn is a limitation of pornstars' ability to act (don't patronize them, it's similar to how many action movie stars can't act as well) and not to some fundamental principle in the porn industry.

Which is why parody games are successful: they use pre-developed characters that people like already, so I should design mine to be liked as well first.

Working on this order, Story/Characters > UI/Gameplay > Sex part (I can only work on this when all others are ready), I should be fine and not lose myself in the development.

I should take extra care on the intro as well^^

I've been playing AVN since 2021 because I find modern gaming boring (AAA Games). When I play a game I want to enjoy the story and get lost in to it and have an emotional connection with the characters :)
