Dear lord i remember when this first appeared on 4chan a decade ago.

Things were good back then, progress was being made and fun videos popped up every couple of months but then as the first two years went by less and less new content was added and more and more easter eggs flooded the game instead. Promise after promise resulting in nothing but excuses and the more people learned about what was going on behind the scenes the more people began to realise just how bad things had gotten or rather how bad they had always been.

A decade on from those early days on /v/ and this game is still nowhere near complete, full of bugs and glitches oh and of ofcourse the complete and absolute non existence of optimisation. That is what a decade of donations has gotten it's backers.

It's honestly sad when i think back to how much promise this game once had but YandereDev has more than earned the ire and contempt that is directed at him.

    Desperate days require desperate measures.

    Cons:
    Yandere dev
    Runs like shit
    Not porn game

    Pros: No :)

TLDR: He should have went with whole sex thing he had before in this game. Probably would have had more content.

Anyone that knows anything about this game, knows that it's hot garbage. Literally from the FOUNDATION, the CODE ITSELF and outwards, there is nothing about this game that can be considered good. A game with such a simplistic concept that has been developed for over, what, a decade now? And it is STILL this atrocious. It is genuinely a disgrace. There is no game worse than this one.

Bad game and bad developer, nothing more to say, don't waste your time with this. There are many other games and devs which need your support, just stay away from this game, the community that follows it is toxic, its creator is toxic, and the game itself is any programmer's nightmare.

tl;dr: Game made of funny noodle code made by funny noodle man.

Genuinely, anyone who wants to make a game- ESPECIALLY in Unity- would benefit from playing this game. This game is a perfect object lesson in making a ton of beginner-level mistakes and iterating on them before you've checked your work.

This game truly needs no introduction.

The idea of taking out the various rivals and immersing in the Yandere trope isn't actually a bad one at its core. How it's executed is often frustrating (fuck you, Amai), and lacks critical instruction. Info-chan can be a little helpful in pointing you in the 'correct' direction, but ultimately what is frustrating about these 'right ways' is that they are all meant to be equally difficult, and so don't end up rewarding the player for critical thinking at all.

In all fair play, after YanDev made the change from JavaScript to C# awhile back, and the game DID run a bit cleaner after that. If you have watched any piece of media covering Yandere Sim, you likely have heard that his code is spaghetti. This is true. A hallmark of his style is multiple long chains of 'else-if' statements set in update loops for every NPC in the game.

Further, one of the drawbacks of using a fuckton of high-poly, store-bought assets and implementing no LOD means that, regardless of where these models are, they are rendered at full detail. If this were one, two, or even ten, there might not be too big of an issue. But, the game renders a large number of these NPCs to populate the school.

The review below is ONLY about the game. If I were to get into the history behind the creator and the weird shit he's involved in this would turn into a whole essay but other people have already done that and made it extremely interesting to follow. Trying to keep it short, the two main things that absolutely kill this game is the technical faults and the lack of content. Turn this game on and you'll push barely 30 FPS on a mid-tier gaming computer with your fans sounding like jet engines. Just horribly optimized. As for the content, it's been out for years with nothing to show for it. More and more promises on characters and storylines come by with few of them ever really fulfilled.

Honestly it's hard writing anything positive about the game, it is the best case of should have crunched and made a mediocre game than this sad joke.

At best it simulates the experience in a very clunky fashion.
It has sandbox ambitions but you're still locked into a semi-story but the story itself is void of anything noteworthy.
Beyond the bugs and the crashes it just doesn't deliver anything engaging and it's clear that the developer/creator were banking on the "simulator" craze but out of clear inexperience wants to make the most "polished" game before release while also adding more bells and whistles without ironing out the details.

The very troubled history of this game and its current state make me loose hope, that this is going to get close to finished any time soon.
    It lacks critical content,
is poorly optimized and has the development-pace of a mountain.
Its only going to get better, if YandereDev hands over this game
to someone that is actually good at making games

Yandere dev did it and that's enough to understand that everything is bad, but the game is 4 out of 10, it's a pity that he abandoned the main game, I'm very sad but I'm not crying sorry for my bad English, I just don't give a shit

its yanderedev thats enough to dislike this game. not to mention countless bugs, terrible optimization and game being not even close finishing even tho its "been" in development for years. for the love of god dont support yanderedev and just let this game die

It´s a piece of grabage, unfortunately I can´t be impartial in this case simply because almost a decade ago I played this game´s "demo" (which at this point is basically the same it´s available now with tiny droplets of """new""" content) and after this much time it´s still the same, it´s understandable that sometimes games may delay or content just comes slow because of the many reasons games like this go slow be it small teams or any of the like but this one along with the other game about raising monster girls on a farm are 2 of the oldest scam games that have been trying to stay alive by leeching unto unsuspecting people which don´t know a thing about them.
Even today I like the concept of this game but to give it anything besidesthe lowest score is just naive and insulting to anyone who actually put any faith on this scam game and just received years of silence and basically a middle finger to the face after being patient and supporting the dev.

This game is probably the most unoptimized piece of garbage ive yet to witness.

It lags on high end pc(HOW) There is close to 0 content added after years of development(Once again, HOW)and currently there is not much of it anyway(A lot of vague and unfinished ideas)

I wouldnt recommend touching this unless you hate yourself. The only reason this has 1 star is because thats the bare minimum and we cannot go to minus points(Which would for me hit immediately minus 8)

this is an honest review about what there IS in the game.
not about the promises alex (the dev) made, about alex himself and his very concerning past, etc etc.

    the game is a mess.
    thats it basically.
    broken unbalanced dead content everywhere.
    nothing to do.
    boring as hell.
god awful settings that do nothing.

im going to keep this short because i really dont wanna start drama but the game is absolute garbage and i have 0 idea why the hell this is even on this page.

even none sexual content games are at least laid out in a lewd way, this literally has nothing to do with porn.
as alex himself said "this is a combination of hitman and persona 5, but even better".

I'll leave the jokes and concerns about the dev himself at the very end if you want to know why he's quite the interesting lad.

tldr; There's better things to do in life. Go play Fallout76 and you'll actually be doing something worthwhile.

First off, there's no sexual content in this game aside from "panty shots". No nudity whatsoever. The game is "functional" in that you can walk around and do things but aside from Osana as the first boss nothing is coded in yet.

Second off, the game graphics are really terrible (they actually give me headaches and eye strain). They aren't a drawing from a random person off the street but they aren't "fitting".

Third, the games code is absolute garbage. I can't get it to run above 20 FPS at minimum settings, the game has memory leaks, just look at this log from 2 minute of loading and running the game:
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Fourth, the dev has some very badly designed mechanics in my opinion. Osana's bodyguard is really hard to get rid of unless you exploit bugs, OR go through the extremely tedious method that you must follow exactly to a specific location at a specific time, and they must be doing something very specific to start the chain (Think of frame perfect jumps on platforms).

If you mess up you have to start over tomorrow (you only get a week to prepare and kill the targets). The mechanics are supposedly a cross between "Hitman and persona". But they aren't like hitman where you are given hints "Hmm, Is that a weakened light pole, how unfortunate if it were to fall", you don't get the relatively lax deadlines in persona, and you're stuck in one school the entire time.
Imagine if hitman had to assassinate 9 targets, one each week, with every method he did before hand getting removed. Sooner or later he's getting suspected at that stage.

Finally, the seems to have a habit of deliberate patching out methods that don't adhered to the step by step listings that are mentioned in the phone. (eg; Previous builds you could trap gasoline on the door and catch osana doused in gasoline and burn her alive... Got patched so her bodyguard catches it now) You actually have more BONUS content then there is content on the main storyline.

A final note on the dev. You can find most history about him by either searching Yanderedev/EvaXephon (His old name). Dude dates back to the early chan days on /v/, and his previous interactions with other people (devs/artists) are archived on the net. That's why I don't have much confidence about him. Make of that what you will.

Go watch the animation short sof this game made by someone else. It's still better then the game imho (even after 5 years), and that animatorsactually make content and improves!

I actually vaguely remember hearing about this game somehow many years ago, and liked the concept quite a bit. I was pretty interested in seeing it on this site as it had completely escaped my mind.

However, I have to echo what a few other reviews are saying and it's not fantasy or rumor for me, but it just happened today. I don't have a super computer by any means, but it is good enough to make decent renders for my own game, and play normal games with reasonable 60+ FPS. This game just doesn't have good performance technically. It's bad enough that it completely detracts from both immersion and enjoyment.

I am still giving it two stars because I like the concept, but I have no hope this game will technically be able to perform long-term, and that's not even considering the ambitious scope of the game which might make it worse.

This game doesn't belong on this site

That being said, it's very neat for indie game. Graphics are okay, vastly improved in comparison to alpha builds. You can spend few hours here having a good time.

Osana has dozens of scripted events and scenes. By going around school you witness numerous clubs "randomly" going around, doing their stuff. It makes you feel this school is "real". Game is very complex, especially for indie game.

There are rumors about performance i don't understand. I've played Full HD with all graphical options turned on, and in peak moment (like 150 ppl around) i got FPS drop to 48, usually it keeps around 70-90. I've 3yo PC bought for 700 euros, you can have similar for 400 euros nowadays. And remember that optimalisation is LAST thing to do in game!

It's good example of public-based development (that i don't really like). One person was organising volunteers and making game on his own. It's prime reason it took so long, and the fact it's ambicious sandbox (and first in his portfolio) certainly didn't help. But now i can see it kinda worked out. Consider it an experiment, not something anybody should mimic but should learn from it.

I will be focusing on the technical aspects of the game to remain impartial and fully objective.

This game demo, in terms of concept, is decent. It is a mix between SMT's school life and Hitman's stealth kills.

In terms of mechanics, it is at the bare minimum of what is expected. Line-of-sight, apprehension mechanics, personality differences, etc. It has some plus points here, like some enviromental kills, the club mechanic, etc. Nothing that would blow you out of the water, though.

In terms of optimisation and gameplay, it is obsolescent.

    Optimisation:
Without going into too much detail, I have an Intel I7, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. I have overclocked it with assistance from friends with stable results countless times to optimise it for games such as Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Oblivion and Rust. I have done this in order to support the over 120+ mods I have mostly on Bethesda Games, and I have always managed to reach a fluid 144fps, the limit of my screen's resolution, without issue. My computer would overheat slightly, but otherwise it is stable and within my comfortable means.

This DEMO has reached similar temperatures, and reduced my fps to, AT MOST, 60.

Perhaps it is because of my lack of attention to cooling for my system, but in terms of Optimisation, this game is absolutely obsolete. The fact that this demo suffers from framedrops to the lowest I've ever seen of 20fps when I can run the buggiest of Bethesda games with mods filled to the brim from both Loverslab and Nexus with minimal drop and still staying at 144fps, is unacceptable.

    Gameplay:
This is the SOLE reason I put a second star. There is content in this game in the terms of Easter Eggs and gameplay characteristics that warrant enough to be given a second star.

However, and I would like this to be a primary point for gameplay, the gameplay that is relevant to the actual gameplay of removing their rivals is very, very little. And when I mean little, I mean that it is the least entertaining part of the game.

It is bug filled with NPC coding that jerks out of the immersion countless times. The clipping for the NPCs, the assets such as the lockers, they are, at least in my opinion, unsatisfactory for a game with such a long development time.

    Summary:

It is an unoptimised, buggy, computer-bricking, uninspired, content-lacking and ultimately suspicious Demo that was in development for six years. The future developments of this game should be held in extreme scrutiny, assuming if there is any.

From this point forward, I will be stating things that would be irrelevant to the technical aspects of the game, but still relevant to the summarised development cycle of this Demo in order to inform others about the context. It will not consist of the developer or of the controversy, but solely on my personal enjoyment of the game.

    Non-objective Take:

It is a DEMO for the FIRST RIVAL after SIX YEARS of development, with 7-8 RIVALS PLANNED. The future expectations of this game is suspicious, due to the lack of optimisation despite the massive amount of time developing the game. It is a tremendously disgusting disappointment that I could not bring myself to continue to play after the first 10 minutes.

Two stars is honestly too generous for such a suspiciously underdeveloped Demo that was supposedly in development for 6 f-ing years.

There is a lot of problems with the game, mostly the FPS rating, i've a 3k gamer pc, i was able to play games such as The Witcher, Rust with a estable quantity of FPS in max quality, but here for some bloody reason if i have more than 40 fps something magical just happened and a sec later goes back to -30. I'm surprised with the game being the same from so many years ago, i played this game when i was in high school... i got a college degree and i'm currently working and only the first rival is actually implemented? i thought that the dev took a break of some years, but apparently that's not the reason. I don't wanna know how much time is going to take for the next rival.

Btw searching for the info if the Dev took a break or something i came across so many videos against him that i'm extremely concerned of wth is happening here
