There's a sequel/graphical upgrade in the works! (should be coming out any day now)

No human model to fug Renamon? Well rip.

The original player model was a human with a near identical model shape to the current wolf player model. I believe it's still in the game files, though I could be wrong, but in theory a talented modder could probably reimplement it with only minor animation and clipping issues.
