Short answer is: Yes, maybe, probably. Dev is working on it and is almost done, but got so burnt out he had to really slow down. So yes, the final update is coming, but there is no timeline for it
That's why I said the "abandoned" rule of this site Ridiculous, as well as anyone who tries to enforce it disingenuously.
I spent more time on "abandoned" threads to figure out is it truly abandoned, or just some crybaby complains the update comes too slow.
If one genuinely just wants to know, the dev answered fairly, and you summed up well.

I guess the dev doesn't want the financial liability comes with taking people's money. He even took down his buymeacoffee page.
Settin' up itchio or patreon comes with many obligations to uphold - unless you just want to grift people out of their money.
Edit: Tho maybe put it on itchio is not a bad idea. It can just be, even there if you don't want to do anything about it anymore. And if someone feels like it they can always throw in some donation.
